The Oriental

Or a bit further south to Vietnam Bistro in Howell. I've really come to like this place.

Cross & Orange, Asbury Park

That $55 price tag is eye catching, especially since it is pretty out of line with the rest of the menu where the limited number of entrees (5?) range from $21 to $38. I found this article from 2011 regarding the restaurant prices of Dover Sole in NYC. Seems to be a pricey fish.

Cross & Orange, Asbury Park

Not yet opened. Will occupy the old Ivan and Andy's space. I believe the chef was most recently in the kitchen of the now shuttered Bistro Rylo in Ocean which received some mixed reviews here on CH, with the theme being pretty good food but $$$. The prices at the new venture are also $$$ http://crossandorangeap.com/menu/

But boy, that menu is appealing to me. Not sure as to opening date, but must be soon as I read they will be open in time for Valentine's Day.

Need a good place to watch the Super Bowl

If you want to stay even closer to home, consider Moore's Tavern in Freehold. And, believe it or not, but iPlay in Freehold is a great place to watch football (I watched some of the playoff games there). Disclaimer: I don't recommend either location for the food (basic mostly acceptable pub far) or the beer selection (plan on Yuengling), but both places will likely serve you well.

Burger Bros. in Marlboro

Your tepid review and food photos (what's up with that dreary looking tomato on the salmon burger) don't have me wanting to run to Burger Bros. In the "fast casual" sector of burger joints, my go-to place is Bobby Flay's.

This place written up in the NY Times also has a grocery/restaurant location in Toms River ... RJ Sariling Atin. Has anyone been there?

Water & Wine restaurant in Watchung?

Found myself here for a client lunch meeting. Thoroughly enjoyable. I've never been previously, but found the front room/lounge to be nicely decorated, albeit a bit dark. Noticed some nice high end bottles lining the bar shelves. Half in our group ordered off the $24 lunch price fix, and the other half a la carte. For $24 you received a generous amount of food. My order included a tomato and mozzarella stack with prosciutto, red snapper with spinach, and a mascarpone cheese cake (could have used a few more minutes getting to room temp, but still very good). Service was excellent. The main dining room was very brightly lit with lots of natural sunlight reflecting off the snow covered lake. Don't often find myself in the area, but would return for sure.

Recommendations for Freehold

Joe - early congrats for next year, but I gotta ask. Is your party in the Market Yard Grill or an American Hotel banquet room? I tried to book the Market Yard Grill (not a banquet room) for the very same purpose for this Spring and was told that my party size (which isn't crazy large) was too many.

Some questions for my NJ friends about our home board...

I don't know how long I've been around the NJ board, but it certainly feels like a long time (long enough that I hit up an amazing Chow dinner with RGR and bgut1, and Dim Sum with seal, longer ago than I can remember). IMO, the NJ board has held up well and is relatively active. There were some other NJ food websites that have died out over the years, which I think helped concentrate the NJ CH page with posters.

Recommendations for Freehold

Another thumbs down for Federici. The related family owned Frankie Fed's on Business Rt. 33 is superior imo. I haven't been overly impressed by San Marzano, but will say that the owners/front of the house are some of the nicest people. We always feel very welcome when we drop in. (Incidentally to the OP, San Marzano is in a strip mall on the other side of Main Street. There is always ample parking in that parking lot as well.)

eleeper - I need to get into Bahia one of these days. The few times I've ever seen it get mentioned its usually accompanied with a disclaimer that there may be some communication issues for non-Spanish speakers. Is this the case? What's good?

Lunch in New Brunswick

If you're looking for something different, check out Destination Dogs ... high end and unique hot dogs, sausages, etc. Pretty nice bar with cocktail program.

Recommendations for Freehold

You will want to head off of Rt. 9 and into Freehold Borough. Most of the downtown restaurants are located on Rt. 537/Main Street. There is ample free parking, with the closest and largest lot located behind the strip of buildings that house the American Hotel, Federici's, etc. Please report back on any good eats.

Clam Pizza in NJ

There was nothing wrong with DeLorenzo's clam pie, but I didn't realize when I ordered it that it was basically their regular pie with chopped clams. I guess I was hoping for the clams to be the star of the pie and not get lost in the red sauce.

Corvette Johnny - will follow up the Luigis recommendation

Recommendation for favorite Korean BBQ in NJ

Picnic Garden in Edison is fun if you want an all you can eat experience. However, I prefer Keum Ho Jung on Old Post Road.

DQ that serves burgers?

The DQ in Hamilton on Rt. 130 North (just south of Exit 5 off 195) is a restaurant location. The burgers are very average. Somewhat close in taste to Wendy's. Nothing to go out of your way for.

Clam Pizza in NJ

Reviving this old thread as I've had a hankering for a clam pie. The one I had over the summer at Porta in Asbury Park was terrific (seasonal I think and not presently available). The one I had recently at DeLorenzo's in Robbinsville decidedly less so. Anyone doing a clam pie with garlic, oil, etc. (no red sauce)?

Harold's New York Deli in East Brunswick, NJ

I'm no Harold's apologist, but usually don't feel like I'm getting ripped off by their prices. If a regular sandwich is now $30 (says $25.95 on website), I still find that that sandwich is more than sufficient to feed two people. That's the equivalent of $15 per person, and includes a pretty awesome pickle bar. While not an apples to apples comparison, you're paying nearly $20 for a corned beef sandwich at Katz's which I have no problem polishing off myself.

your favorite "north of the border" dishes? (red bank)

As has been mentioned here before, the al pastor tacos are great (but I have recently come to enjoy the ones at Lino's even more). I also try to arrive on weekends prior to noon to get my hands on the tamales (all the varieties are delicious).

Whole Foods coming to Wall in late 2015 or early 2016!

I'm far, far from knowledgeable regarding Asian food markets, but the few times I've walked into Asian Food Market on Rt. 79 in Marlboro, the place has been hopping with activity.
