Me too! Trip this weekend looking possible, where is a great pizza place?

Minnesota--Brooklyn Center--50's Grill is the restaurant. Great Malts and poodle skirts and excellent atmosphere, service. And did I mention great malts?
Where's the Dairy Queen? She should know the best ones in Minneapolis...

We thought Dulono's was good, but improved by live music, as all food is :)
Anyone try the salads at Nea's? Very good.

The Downtowner is on the spendier side, though. At least they were for breakfast when we went there, I don't know how dinner is.
Would I be bad to recommend a standard place like Famous Dave's BBQ Uptown, or even the Olive Garden? We always get food both places.
Also there's Bucca's. Beautiful place, always good food.

Freezing cold in Minneapolis, too! Wish it would stop and warm up! Anyway, the place we'd recommend is Famous Dave's BBQ. Great food, live music. Great Uptown experience area, I promise.

We've tried both Punch's and Nea's. Punch's at Calhoun, to be exact, and loved it both times. We;ve eaten it there, outside, and also taken it to go and sat by the lake on a blanket. Awesome both ways, never had it be soggy. Nea's was good also. Except the memory that stands out, is mostly regarding the salad we got along with it, which was really good with gorganzola cheese crumbles and walnuts on it...mmmmm.
The only thing better than that was kissing at the table :) And watching the birds fly overhead and watching passerby's.

I have a McDonalds across the street from where I live. Unfortunately for my arteries, I get a double cheeseburger about every 10 days or so. My stomach thanks me, though :) I am also partial to having an intense craving about every other month for one of those greasy Burger King Chicken sandwiches, the oblong shaped one sliding with mayo that they no longer diagonally cut. Heaven on a bun....

We agree: Day by Day cafe is great. Tall bookshelves on the walls, nice atmosphere. Excellent hashbrowns and good service. Interesting place and makes us wish it was summer to sit outside and dine outdoors. (Coming soon...coming soon...) For lunch, go to Cossetta's!

Although the thought is very romantic, I'd steer clear of a restaurant proposal. Do it at some place that is special to the two of you that is a private area so the girl will feel open to express her emotions, hopefully good ones! Hopefully thats a "yes" and showering you with hugs and kisses. Do dinner first though, and not too much wine. Get a glass, not a bottle, you don't want her drunk for the proposal, right? giggle...

Just discovered chowhound, LOVE IT, by the way; thought we'd kick in one gem in Hudson, Wisconsin that we've found.

Their italian food is so, so good. Everything we've had there is wonderful, would return again and again. The bread and garlic butter is good, the ravioli, the chicken, all great. Atmosphere: very romantic, cozy, comfy. Decorated really nice for seasonal like at Christmas it was very well done. TRY IT !

This should be a start for you- Probably not the specific things you're looking for, but maybe someone else knows it?

Anyone been to Hells Kitchen when it WASN'T busy? Tryna find a good time to go there...tried twice and like 45 minute waits...too hungry to wait on those days...of course it was a Saturday or Sunday morning at 10 a.m., probably the WORST time to go, right?

Hey thanks bob s. Is the Uptown Diner anything like the Uptown Bar and Cafe? The Uptown Bar and Cafe is one of our go-back-to places in which the hashbrowns are consistantly good, the overall breakfast and atmosphere is awesome there on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Whats the Uptown Diner like? We loved the food at the Calhoun Grill. Froze our butts off in there though in January...turn up that heat!

It's a quest that few go on, but we're on it, and have been for at least 8 months. We adore Minneapolis, like St. Paul, and are always in search of new fun breakfast places. Last weekend was Sweet Lorraine's in South Mpls. Very great service, good food, but not perfect hashbrowns. Close, but no cigar. So, let's hear it from all you breakfast-eaters on your opinion of the best hashbrowns and breakfast spots in the Twin Cities, please.

Our vote is cast for several places: Old Chicago, Rocky Rococo's in Brooklyn Park, Tasy Pizza in Northeast Mpls, Punch's by Calhoun, Fat Lorenzo's for sure. Mmmm...just thinking about Fat Lorenzo's pizza can almost make me forget nasty Red Savoy's...

Actually, thats a comfort to me somewhat if 3 years ago people thought it was a good pizza and now its not so great. I just wondered if everyones standard for pizza had gone downhill or my tastebuds were having a terrible day!

Oh don't get me started on Red Savoys again....Boooo!

Next person who I see recommending Savoys Pizza I think I might hurl. Ate there yesterday, and I can still feel that cardboard crust and too-spicey sauce cruising through my system. I woke with heartburn, and it may have taken my pizza appetite away permanently. But definetly St Paul is a different "flavor" of everything than Minneapolis. Thats what makes it great, having 2 cities like this so close together, is that they are different for different things, and we get to enjoy both. My personal favorite thing in St. Paul right now is the Como Park Conservitory Sunken Garden flower display. I'm here to tell you it is AH-MAZE-ING. Go there to get a little relief from this cold winter weather. You won't be disappointed. Then go eat pizza at COSSETTA'S !!

Okay, so I'm dumbfounded why I've read so much about Red Savoys Pizza in St.Paul. We tried it today, and it was entirely a bad experience. Bad waitress, very dark bar-like atmosphere that almost cried out to 2 non-drinkers to want to get drunk in just to survive it, and, I hate to spoil the fun, but BAD pizza. Yes the toppings were thick, lots of cheese, but the crust was a loser and the sauce was too spicey and way too thickly laid on. Sorry, we were incredibly disappointed. It is now at the bottom of our fave pizza in the Twin Cities. At the top: Rocky Rococo, Old Chicago, Tasty, Galactic, and the kids new favorite is Jet's Pizza. I haven't tried it yet...
