Restaurants in Israel

Sima (perhaps Sami) on Agrippas are also very good for Meorav Yerushalmi. Zion Hakatan is also very good. If you focus on the "Israeli" type restaurants rather than the touristy places, you will generally get a better deal.

Restaurants in Israel

Papagaio is great, and they have a branch in TA and Jerusalem. They start you out with a loaf of bread and salads, and then the grill men come with chicken, sausage, wings. The better meat comes out later. So pace yourself and try a little of everything, as they will come back.
If you can stop by Tel Aviv or Herziliya on your way up there are some great restaurants there too, if you're interested.
Jerusalem has a huge selection.
Low End - Burgers Bar,
Mid Range - Joy Grill, Olive, Angelo's (Italian Dairy), Little Italy (Dairy)
High End - 1868
Go to www.eluna.com which has restaurant write ups by city, and 10% off coupons for most places. It's better than Shamash.

Looking for Kosher Meat Shop Selling Kosher Breast of Lamb for Pesach?

I am Sephard, and our minhag has been to always have lamb on Pesach. In fact the Zeroah or shankbone that we use consists of a lamb shank that is unbroken at the first joint and probably weighs 3 - 4 lbs. This is boiled to threequarters cooked, I guess to avoid any connotation of roasted meat. Then when we eat it on the second night of Pesach, it is finished/roasted in the oven.

Looking for Kosher Meat Shop Selling Kosher Breast of Lamb for Pesach?

Glatt Mart has very good lamb. I usually buy a whole lamb from them every Pesach, and they cut it up how I want. Last year I paid $5.50 a pound, not sure of the price this year as I am away. Prices for individual cuts will be higher, but their lamb is very good. Not sure if they do shipping.
Have heard Park East Butcher is good, however, they seem expensive, and I have not shopped there, so cannot comment directly. Do a google search for them and you will get to their website.

Any Comments on Kosher Wine Society

Anyone a member that can comment on the benefits?

Are the discount coupons they give worthwhile and are they one time or are they good on every purchase.

Kosher Champagne/Sparkling Wine

www.kosherwine.com has an Italian Moscato called Villa Santero that is nowhere as syrupy as the Rashi and Bartunera versions that many have become accustomed to. It's on sale for 5.99 now, and might work for you.

Shmura matzo prices

I picked up the Rokeach brand, which I beleive is the same as the Kfar Chabad brand for $8 in Goldbergs in Boro Park. I have been buying this for years now as it seems to consistently be the lowest price (always in Brokklyn) as well as consistently having more whole pieces per box than others. At this price I can also eat Shmura for almost all of Pesach.
BTW - The same box goes for $13/14 in NJ

Appears available for about $11/12 which is half of what the '03 and '04 are going for, and should probably be drunk now rather than stored.

Anyone tried this recently and have comments?

Israeli Wines

Depends what you like, and the selection is huge from Barkan Classic at around $8 to well over $60 for the Castel.
On the red side, the Carmel single vineyard wines and the appelation ones are really good ($25 - $40 in the NY/NJ area). Segal's Dishon and Dovev wines are also good ($30 range). Barken has a broad range and their reserves are good and reasonably priced. Best bet would be to go to a store where you can talk to someone who has an idea what they are talking about and will let you taste. Skyview in Riverday seems to have some of the best prices around and also has wine you can taste. Queen Anne in Teaneck does wine tastings most Thursday nights and their prices are not bad.

Greenwald Caterers: Opinions?

I have been to several weddings catered by Greenwald and they have catered a number of our shul's annual dinners. Food has always been good. Was at a wedding recently, and their prime rib at the dinner was outstanding, which is usually tough to do when you're serving 500+ people and not knowing exactly when dinner will go out.
Would not use their catering at NCSY as a benchmark.

HOnesty Appreciated: Mr. Broadway and Abigaels

They are two different types of dining and both are great, you just need to know what you are looking for before you decide where to go. Mr Broadway is a deli where you get a plate of pickles and coleslaw before you start. they have a huge menu, and pretty much everything is good, but it is never quiet. Abigails is more of a quieter upscale dining experience that you will definitely pay more for. I assume we are talking about the main restaurant rather than the tea room they have at Abigails.

Fumio in Livingston apparently re-opening as kosher

The sushi is better than Metsuyan, the restaurant not as cramped, will take reservations (my understanding is Metsuyan will not for small parties) and the service is better. if you live in the area, save the hour plus round trip to Teaneck and go to Fumio's.

Best Kosher Wine or Scotch whiskey

Scotch is definitely different depending on the casks you use (would never say better, as that is a preference). You only have to look at the difference in the color. I also agree that it is the sherry absorbed wood that gives the flavor, no one is physically adding sherry to the scotch. I am strictly kosher and will drink any kind of scotch, irrespective of cask.
If the organizations forbidding sherry casks knew what they were talking about, they would forbid all blended scotches since you don't even know what casks they are using. In addition, McCallan is one of the main ones they directly forbid as it's the only one they really know about, however, there are so many others that they allow, which what makes this inconsistent.

Any suggestions for GOOD kosher wine?

If you're not near a wine store that sells kosher wine you may want to try www.kosherwine.com who have a huge selection and will ship. If you buy a case, it usually runs around $2 per bottle for shipping, and their prices are pretty good, especially when they have sales or clearance.
