Blackbird and Eating Local [MSP]
Went to Blackbird last night and as usual had a great meal. Amish chicken marsala was to die for. Better half had the seasonal gnocchi, also fantastic. I know I mention them alot but I live on the Eastside of Saint Paul and its always such a treat to go there. Anyway the point of my post other than mentioning what a great meal I had last night is to remind fellow hounds that in this economic crisis the small independent restaurants really need our help if they are going to survive. I was talking with the BB owner and she said business was down and made me wonder why more people dont visit these kinds of places. Big chain spots have corporate backing and can make it through a lot easier while the little guys are barely getting by if not closing all together. Remember Auriga, JP`s and lots of others couldnt weather the storm and now sadly have gone away. So my post is to ask everyone to support your local restaurant, butcher, deli whatever it may be. It truely is the seaon of giving.

Private Event in MN
I might suggest Il Vesco Vino off of Selby/Dale in Saint Paul. I talk about them alot because I dont think people have rediscovered it. Check out there website.
Twin Cities - Non-smoking outdoor dining?
Il Vesco Vino in the old Vintage spot in Saint Paul has one of the prettiest undiscovered patios in the city. Maybe I shouldnt mention it either. Bartender told me smoking was only allowed at the actual outdoor bar. They have new wood fired pizzas now too that are as good as Punch without the wait. The patio is huge and they have live jazz out there on the weekends too.
Sea Salt (MSP)
I have to disagree with almost everyone on here. I took a group of 6 there last night after so many glowing reviews and wow were all of us disapointed. From the minute we walked in and heard the horrible rock music blaring till we threw our mostly not eaten food in the trash bin. Funny thing is my friend noticed right away how unhappy all the employees looked. Its busy and they are stressed I said. Lets stand in line for 30 minutes and see how the food is because the food is really what matters. The food was as good at the attitude of the employees. I am from the Gulf Coast but went with a MN born and raised and his wife and kids. My partner is from NY so we cover a good demographic. I will say that was some of the worse food I have had in the Cities. Our total bill was over $60.00,just food no alcohol and what I would give to get that money back. We tried tacos, poboys, salads, fishbaskets and even hot dogs for the kids and there was not one single thing worth the money. The Park and Falls were beautiful and the evening was lovely spent with people I care about. Next time I would get take out from any number of places and just grab a picnic table. Again I have to say some of the worse food I have had in the Cities without a doubt and all of my party agreed. In fact we all kind of laughed at ourselves for even going as we strolled the trails and enjoyed the great MN evening.
Revisit of Blackbird [MSP]
Stopped in tonight with a group of 5. Called ahead for seating so didnt have to wait but great to see them so busy. Had a variety of apps salads and entrees, all excellent. Special was Fresh Sockeye Salmon. High High remarks for that.I had the ban mih sandwich and friends had a steak and a veggie burger.Again all excellent.Might be worth a revisit for others out there looking for a great out on the town meal but not too fussy.
MSP Lenten Friday Fish Fries
Blackbird in Minneapolis does a fantastic fried Salmon and fries everynight. Its 14.95 but really enough to share and they have great beer list. My new favorite fish.
Minneapolis vs. St. Paul scenes
Well dang if Haricotsv2 doesnt know her scene. She hit all the winners. Throw in Savoy Pizza on 7th and the original keys on Raymond and you pretty much got evrything you need.
Six Adults and Two kids
Thanks for the info everyone. I am new to the board but a long time reader. Lil Szechuan came to mind but honestly after wanting to love it and trying it three times and always leaving sadly disapointed I`m hopeing to venture somewhere new.I love HoBien on Lex and Univ but the atmosphere is surely lacking. I`ll let you all know where we end up.
favorite drink in MSP, anyone?
Ever get to Il Vesco Vino in Saint Paul you have to ask for an ambra ciello..Admitadly better in summer but still the best drink hands down anywhere.
Six Adults and Two kids
Looking for a place for this Sunday in the Saint Paul Area. Big time lover of University Avenue Asian but wouldnt mind something a little more kid friendly and with some atmosphere. Any Suggestions..
