Advice needed for Seaport daytime and evenings on town

had not tried Papagayo yet... good to know!

Advice needed for Seaport daytime and evenings on town

three - don't forget Papagayo on Summer St, across from Channel Cafe

Anyone Been to Geoffrey's Cafe's Recently?

I've only been early on weeknights (I work nearby) and the noise level has ben fine. Food is solid, occasionally better than that... it's more reliable than any of the constantly-turning-over places on Stanhope, and less expensive than pretty much anything around but Flash's, so while it's not stellar I'm glad it's there.

Advice needed for Seaport daytime and evenings on town

If you want to stay ON the beaten path, have a drink and a sushi app at the bar atop Legal's Waterfront then sample a few different types of tacos at Temezcal. These places are PACKED on a nice night but if you get there early it's a fun and really scenic thing to do. For lunch, definitely Channel Cafe (5 min walk from the Conv Center) if you're tight on time; if you have a bit more, get a lobster roll to go from Yankee Lobster and walk up to the picnic tables between the Institute of Contemporary Art and Moakley Courthouse - great views of the city/harbor and all the boats coming in and out (though perhaps if yoou live in Bermuda you get your fill of boats...)

party room in back bay?

thanks all! Great suggestions!

party room in back bay?

I work in back bay and want to plan a cocktail-and-hors d'oevres event for about 40-50 people, but I have no idea which of our frequent haunts might have interesting event space! Anyone been to a cool function in this neighbrohood?

where to buy black cod?

Hi Hounds - I am away for work and just had an amazing and simple black cod dish I'd love to recreate at home. Anyone seen black cod for sale fresh anywhere? It's also called sablefish. Thanks!

Tico - did tasting menu with friends last night

depends on how you do the math - you could look at it that each of the four of us had a three course meal, right? The desserts were the only ones where we each had our own plates. It definitely plenty of food but not the sort of thing where you kind of just want to slip into a coma after.

Tico - did tasting menu with friends last night

we paid $50 ea for the Living Social coupons - don't know what the usual cost is. The coupon said it was a $100 value, but who knows how they actually calculate.

Tico - did tasting menu with friends last night

So four of us went to Tico last night to use our Living Social coupons... we screwed up, didn't realize we were supposed to call ahead, but they were extremely gracious. Michael Schlow came out to chat about what we like, then for close to two hours just sent out dish after dish. And everything was excellent. Either Chef Michael or a young, very nice chef named Joshua Smith came out to explain every dish. I should have made a list but what I remember:
Fried manchego with a pomegranate honey dipping sauce (I will dream about this)
Scallop ceviche with avocado
Octopus salad
Seared tuna with an eggplant... relish? don't know how to describe but we soaked every last morsel of it up with our bread. It was delicious.
Pork belly with sweet onion (so good I had to post to Facebook about it)
Edamame tacos
Mushroom quesadillas (the only miss in my book - I thought they were too salty, but everyone else at my table loved them)
Sirloin with some kind of spicy rub and a side dish of warm cannelini beans, kale, and bacon - this may have been the overall favorite - meat was so tender and delicious, and the side was a perfect complement
Filet mignon with grilled zucchini - we couldn't decide if this was better than the sirloin or not. Both were just gorgeous.
(both beef dishes came with delicious fries and a nice mustard dipping sauce)
Cheese plate of four local cheeses - very nice blend of the familiar and the unusual
Peanut butter mousse with chocolate ice cream
Some kind of dense chocolate cake with drizzles of butterscotch and spicy sauces - I would drink this butterscotch straight if they'd let me

If I had to find a compaint I'd say the drink service was a bit slow, but the bar area was packed shoulder to shoulder with the after-work crowd so I can't really fault them. Aside from that the service was very good - outstanding if you consider it was only their second night.

What do you with think of this Radius/Via Matta Living Social Deal?

About to post my comments on doing the tasting menu last night at TIco... quick summary is I was VERY pleasantly surprised.

Take out reccomendations that deliver to South Boston?

they deliver in the neighborhood so I bet they'd deliver to the Waterfront; I like them a lot, menu online at http://www.cafemamtaz.com/menu.html#Appetizers

Rock Sugar Thai might deliver there as well - they deliver to me and I'm about a mile away.

Also if it's not too cold consider walking down to Yankee Lobster and bringing back a lobster dinner or lobster roll. They're cheap and yummy.

Yankee Lobster

Rock Sugar Thai Cafe

Have you tried Local 149 in Southie?

Would love some input before I trudge there through the snow. Thanks!

Where be Cask Ales?

Bukowski's often (but not always) has something on cask. Worth calling ahead to ask.

Just for fun - most overpriced drinks in Boston?

Met my SO at Beehive for a beer on Sunday - $8.25 for a draft Harpoon IPA?? Got me thinking about other places that are shameless in their bar markups. What do you think?

Sweet Tooth Bakery S Boston

Yeah I was surprised to see some bad reviews on Yelp. I live about three blocks from Sweet Tooth and bring treats to every book club, office party etc and have NEVER been disappointed. They do creative special orders too.

Baja style arrachera marinade?

Thanks Gypsy Jan! Can't wait to try this out!

Baja style arrachera marinade?

I had amazing arrachera tacos from several stands in and around La Paz, BCS. I've tried marinades I've found online but none pack the spice of the tacos I had, or create the crispy outer edge on the flank steak. Anyone have a good recipe for the arrachera marinade used in this region?

Nice sit-down in Brighton?

I didn't think about Kenmore - that is a quick ride in and has good bars to go to before/after as well - thanks!

Nice sit-down in Brighton?

A colleague is getting married and I'd like to give her a gift certificate for a nice dinner out. She lives in Brighton, which is not a familiar area for me. A search of the Board found Carlos but she's a nice Italian girl - as am I - and I know we Italian girls already have our favorite places :-) Can anyone recommend something nice but not over-the-top fancy? They are both pretty open to different cuisines.

New store wher South End Super 88 was

thanks! Have not been to a C-Mart before. Is it strictly Chinese or do they have ingredients for other Asian cuisines too?

Suggestions for a nice spot for drinks and apps, must be "conversation-friendly"

Casablanca in Harvard Square; the downstairs has good conversation areas. More upscale and really yummy, Blue Room in Kendall Square - I feel like they seating for larger groups at the bar but am not actually sure.

New store wher South End Super 88 was

What used to be the Super 88 on the edge of the South End (Herald & Washington) is now something else... every day my bus goes by and I cannot for the life of me make out the name on the sign, which is either because the bus windows are covered in rain and fog or because I never remember my glasses. Regardless, has anyone checked it out?

Don Ricardo's South End

glad you had such a good meal; I love that place and it worries me when I'm there and it's not crowded. A great meal for a very reasonable price has become an endangered species in the South End and I hope more people will support this great mom and pop place!

Seafood, Outdoor Seating, Casual

Maybe not so healthy since I love their onion rings, but... best fresh seafood with a view in all of Boston, IMO, is to get take out from Yankee Lobster (on the waterfront) and walk up to the gorgeous park behind Moakley Courthouse. Incredible view of the whole Inner Harbor from their very nice picnic tables. Don't tell (ssshhh) but we've poured wine into a Nalgene-type bottle and brought it with us. Way cheaper than any restaurant too!

Seafood, Outdoor Seating, Casual

last summer we had sushi outside at Sushi-Teq - might be worth calling them to see if it's just set days/hours??

Restaurants near Residence Inn Tudor Wharf

I like the Navy Yard Bistro. A little pricey, but maybe you could go early for apps and drinks rather than a whole meal.

Fish Shack in Rockport?

Going to Rockport this weekend and was looking at reviews on other sites of The Fish Shack, but nothing on Chowhound. Who has an opinion? Or, for that matter, any suggestions beyond the usual Lobster Pool and Roy Moore - preferably a place to eat outside that either serves or is BYOB, maybe a tad more upscale than those mentioned above... thanks!

My stacation 2009

it's not lunch but I think the Saturday brunch at Masa is a great deal!

Where's Your Favorite Place for Brunch?

Wholeheartedly second Masa- best deal in town! All morning Sat and for the first hour on Sun, cornbread plus starter plus entree plus coffee or tea is $7.95. I think I am addicted to the cranberry chipotle preserves they serve with the cornbread.
