Long Beach with kids?
I can't think of any place on the peninsula that is NOT kid friendly. Have a great time.
Vancouver Hound's first trip to Portland -- help a hungry elf out?
I had my first trip to Toro Bravo over the holidays. Boy, was it good! Yes, there was a 45 minute wait....BUT we walked down a few doors to an oyster place and had a beer and oysters on the half shell. Toro Bravo called us when our table was ready.
Last Minute Weekend Visit
You have received great recommendations for food, so I won't comment further. However, a few hours in Churchmouse Yarns is to die for!
Need some practical pragmatic input on a rice cooker! [moved from Home Cooking]
I have a small programmable rice cooker that I got several years ago. It is perfect for different varieties of rice, but we especially like it for cooking oatmeal!
Headed for Ocean Park, WA for a week -- Suggestions?
Don't miss Jimella's! Besides a great restaurant, she has a nice deli counter with fish, meat, and cheese. She also has a good wine selection. I second the recommendations to eat at 42nd St and The Depot.
Coffee, Coffee Pots, Tea & Tea Pots - What are Your Favorites?
We used to buy coffee pots at the rate of once/year. That was as long as they would last. Our Technivorm has lasted 9 years with daily use, sometimes more than once/day. We are way ahead of the game, plus they were cheaper 9 years ago. I realize it is stretch of money to put out at one time, which is why I have not "upgraded" to the model with the stainless pot.
Our "Saturday" pot, for when we have more time, is often the Chemex.
Coffee, Coffee Pots, Tea & Tea Pots - What are Your Favorites?
I second the recommendaton for Technivorm. I would love to have one of the stainless steel pot styles, but my 9 year old CD Moccamaster just won't quit. Sweet Maria's and Boyd's Coffee are good sources for purchase.
rice cooker recommendations?
I l ove my programmable Sanyo, not just for rice, but for oatmeal too. If I had to buy another one, I would get one that also had a steamer.
Williams Sonoma Sale Craziness!!!
I am getting 2 Staub pans on sale, plus my son's employee discount!
Your favorite Sriracha recipe?
I am going to try that chicken dish tonight!
Has anyone played around with different brands of Srirachi? I have always used the rooster sauce (I don't think my kids even know it has another name), but I recently purchased Shark Brand Sriracha chili sauce. Haven't tried it yet.
Can't miss along I-90 headed east...?
A little of I-90, but Tendrils at Cave B is always a treat.
Can't miss along I-90 headed east...?
When in Glacier did you eat at the Cattle Baron in Babb?
Online Asian Cooking Supplies
Amazon does offer Pearl River (through Uwajimaay) at 2 bottles for $20.00. I am fairly sure it usually costs about $3/bottle when I buy it at Uwajimaya, so I am looking for other sources.
Online Asian Cooking Supplies
I am in the middle of WA state with no asian cooking supplies available. I am out of Pearl River Superior Light Soy and tapioca starch. There is no trip to Seattle in the near future. I used to get Pearl River from Thai Import Food in Bellevue, but it appears they no longer carry it. Does anyone have a good mail order source for asian foods?
Recommend a good ice cream maker!
I made the Ugandan Vanilla Ice Cream from Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. Heavenly! Of course, I did not have any Ugandan vanilla on hand, but used vanilla paste.
Recommend a good ice cream maker!
Don't tell anyone, but I have 3 freezers too! One in each refrigerator (2) and one a freestanding freezer. All are full!
Recommend a good ice cream maker!
I am not sure how I have missed this thread! I have the Kitchen Aid attachment for making ice cream, and like it very much. I have been using The Perfect Scoop, but at the the many recommendations I have heard, I just order Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream.
Coupeville
We got down to Freeland, but not at a meal time, so we skipped Gordon's. We had very good meals at Front Street Grill and Christopher's. We had a beer at Toby's each night, and wanted to eat there, but ran out of time.

Coupeville
We will be on Coupeville next week. On my list is Mosquito Fleet Chili Co, Oyster Catcher (although I think it is open TH-SUN and we will miss it), Naples Pizza, Ciao, Front Street Grill. Anything else we should put on our list? We will be having breakfast at our B&B.

AUGUST 2011 COOKBOOK OF THE MONTH NOMINATIONS.
THE SPLENDID TABLE. It is the only one I already have!
Wenatchee recs?
Not sure what type of food you are looking for. I second the recommendation for South in Leavenworth.
In Wenatchee, these are a few of our favorites:
Windmill (certainly not new)
Iwa Sushi
Fame
McGlinn's
Smokehouse (now in Cashmere)
Shakti's
Casa Tapatia (in E. Wenatchee)

New on long beach peninsula
Not new, but we always hit Jimella's when we are on the peninsula.
Yakima Valley visit, need breakfast suggestions plus Mexican
Waffle Cafe in Yakima is always one of our morning stops if we are going through at the right time.
Mazama, Winthrop, Omak
We LOVE Cinnamon Twist! We look forward to the long days when we can drive up from Wenatchee to enjoy a lunch at CT!
Countertop Question
I have CeasarStone in my kitchen and bath. It is idiot proof. I does not provide the "flow" of the high end granite, but I think it is very attractive.
By the way, Escondido123, do you live in Escondido, CA? I was born there!
Addy - Colville - WA ?
I can't think of anything in Addy, but I think Colville has a few nice spots. Can't think of the names, however. There is one spot on the east side of the road between Addy and Colville....looks like a house. Good food.
Dutch oven to bake no-knead bread
I use my Lodge seasoned cast iron dutch oven exclusively for the Jim Lahey bread recipe, and have never had a problem.
About Those Automatic Rice Cookers and other countertop appliances... [moved from General Topics]
My Sanyo programmable rice cooker is one of my favorite appliances. I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but it makes the best and easiest oatmeal ever! No muss, no fuss.
Washington coast restaurants?
The Ark is still closed, but the owner, Jimella, has opened a fantastic restaurant on the main drag though Ocean Park. Appropriately named Jimella's. Check ahead for hours.
