best pizza in calgary?

My favorite pizza in town is Ogden pizza - Billys special, oh ya! 2nd place is Jon's pizza in Douglasdale. Both are outstanding.

5 Guys Burgers in Calgary?

I was sitting directly in front of this table and was just standing up to leave as the group picture was being taken! I was ticket number 21 and was wearing a Stampeders jacket.

5 Guys Burgers in Calgary?

I just got back to the office after lunch and contrary to the above post loved it. I have been to other locations in Phoenix and Houston and found the taste and quality to be identical here. Technically they don't have Double burgers, they have a burger which happens to have 2 patties. My burger was outstanding, and the fresh jalapenos are a nice touch with the fried onions. I had the Cajun fries and just as down south they give you way too many fries and the are fresh cut and incredible, very similar to Rockys burger bus fries, nothing at all like the frozen crap you will get with most burgers in Calgary. This place is a must try.

YYC Holy Smoke Bbq

I have been a few times now and am quite happy with the quality of their food. Ribs are excellent and very close to what comes out of my weber smoker, pulled pork is also excellent.

BEST BAR/PUB TO WATCH SOCCER SUNDAY MORNING - YYC

The Kilt and Caber in Mckenzie Towne is also showing the games and has some small crowds that have been growing as word gets out they are showing the games. Great breakfast for 5 bucks also.

Best Burger in Calgary?

The place in Ogden is called Sunnys and makes fantastic burgers, I usually order either the mushroom burger with cheese or the house burger, both of which are very filling. Fries are average but the burger is worth the visit. Rockys burger is still my favorite though but Sunnys is better than most of the other joints in Calgary.

Chuckwagon Cafe - Turner Valley

Went for a drive this moring south of the city and stopped in at the Chuckwagon Cafe in Turner Valley for lunch. The burgers here are fantastic, and the fries just as good. The seasoning on the meat was incredible and there was a very nice relish on the burger both of which really made the burger. My favorite burger in Calgary is from the Rockys burger bus in the foothills industrial area but this is worth the drive.

Alot of people were eating breakfast and it looked incredible also, huge plates of food. I guess I will be back soon to try the breakfast.

Cowtown Beef Shack

I tried this out last week after reading here about it and it was really good. I had the beef dip and was really impressed with the quality of the beef which made for an outstanding sandwich. I can't wait to try the bbq beef.

Taj Mahal, Calgary - Celebrating their 36th Anniversary

I meant exactly what I wrote. If you want me to be a bit more clear I will say it was disgusting, it tasted frozen and reheated. The last visit it was so bad I made a mental note to never return.

My favorites right now are Moti Mahal and Karma, with the nod to Moti. Every place you mentioned in your post I consider to be pretty good. I am in England almost monthly and was surprised a few years ago to learn the owner of Moti had family in the city where I visit frequently in the UK which has some of the finest Indian food I have had.

Taj Mahal, Calgary - Celebrating their 36th Anniversary

I haven't eaten at the Taj in over 10 years, having tried it out a few times and the food was really bad. There are so many other great choices in Calgary now that I am not sure I want to risk giving it another chance.

Mi Tierra Tu Taqueria-Calgary

tex is correct, that is indeed the new location. They have been having problems getting a liquor license in the original spot and have solved that problem by buying the restaurant with a liquor permit at the spot that was a chinese restaurant at Mcleod and Heritage. The owner was mentioning that they were going to probably give up on getting a permit at the original spot since they have applied several times, made all changes requested, and then still denied with each new inspector wanting something else changed.

The new location will definitely be a bit more convenient for me also, I really can't get enough of this restaurant!

Another must have dish is the Chuletta Con Queso, it is amazing and is a generous portion. Try it out next time you are there.

Broken Plate Greek Restaurant - Calgary

Broken Plate is definitely not the best Greek food in Calgary, not even close. Dan G's post best describes my 3 experiences at the south restaurant. Bland, and not at all worth what was paid. I will give any restaurant a 2nd or 3rd try but Broken Plate isn't worth another chance.

In the south try Parthenon which is very good. Pegasus is also very good, and Mykonos is better than Broken Plate but not as good as it used to be.

Mexican food in Calgary

Mi Tierra is definitely the best Mexican food in Calgary, nothing else compares to it. It is more of a taco bar but does have a few tables and I eat lunch here quite often. I highly recommend the Chuletta Con Queso, amazing!

Calgary is a wasteland for unnaceptable and overpriced Mexican food, Mi Tierra fills the void between my kitchen or my frequent trips south for the real thing.

Edited to add this link to a thread on Mi Tierra - http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/459380

Calgary - Vogglio's D'Pizza

Count my family in the group that considers the pizza in Calgary fantastic, and prefers Greek style pizza any day of the week to thin crust offerings. Ogden Pizza is my favorite in town and I have to drive to pick it up since we are too far south for delivery. Pizza 73 is not pizza, the only chain in town I find to be just barely ok is Western pizza. As for Vogglio's, I haven't tried it yet but will have to make a point of it.

I have found good pizza in Montreal but nothing in southern Ontario that is worth talking about. I think the best pizza I have ever had was actually in Croatia not Italy, although I have had some great pizza there.

Mi Tierra Tu Taqueria-Calgary

I found this restaurant by browsing on this board back in December and have been eating there almost weekly since, it is outstanding. Definitely a bit dumpy but I look for those kind of places in my travels.

I almost always order the Chorizo Con Queso (which isn't on the menu but they have changed to a permanent item). The Enchiladas Verdes is a great choice also. I have flown to Phoenix or Vegas on a whim just to satisfy a craving but this should save me a bit of money!
