What regional foods do people just get wrong?

Since he was a chef from France, he was probably talking about french people.
Certainly in the five years I've been here, I've never met anyone here that knows anything about chinese or mexican cuisine, except for foreigners that is. Everybody here thinks that samosas are chinese and frijoles are only available in, bizarrely, chinese grocery stores.

How Important to You is Pronunciation? (vis-a-vis Food)

Actually the French say ah-ee-oh-lee; it's spelt "aïoli" in French ; the double dot (trema) over the i means that the a and the i are pronounced separately.

Are There No Good, Inexpensive Places In Paris?

My girlfriend's uncle has a crêperie in Pontivy called Le Cul de Poule.
I was up in Paris this weekend, in the 13ème, I can't remember the name of the brasserie but I had a nice tournedo, with decent potatoes on the side. Not haute cuisine by any means but at 12 euros very reasonably priced. Unfortunately my pint of Kronenbourg was 8 euros!!!!

What is it called? Portuguese pastry roll...

I used to live at Oakwood and Rogers, in Toronto, and on the west side of Oakwood, just south of Rogers is a large portuguese bakery. There were two things that I bought on an almost daily basis but I can't remember what they were called..
The first one is not too important because it was just a large bun stuffed with chouriço, but he second I'd like to try and make but need to find out the name.
It was basically a flaky pastry roll, about 15-20 cm long, open ended and stuffed with an amazing paté-type hashed meat. It usually sold out before 10 am.
If anyone knows what it's called, or is in the area and can check, I would be extremely appreciative!!!!
