Kosher marscapone cheese?
It seems that most people have not used it. I highly recommend it for cheesecakes. Still looking for a Chalav Yisrael brand.
Kosher marscapone cheese?
I don't plan on getting near Bklyn any time soon. Do you mind getting me the name brand some time when you have a chance?
Kosher marscapone cheese?
Found the Bel Gioso brand this year in A & P only to find it a few days later at Wesley Kosher in Monsey for a dollar less. Used it in a delicious strawberries and cream cheesecake recipe. It had a CRC certification. I hope someone finds a way to make a Chalav Yisrael version. I will not be able to serve this cheesecake to my mom which is disappointing.
Blintzes, cheesecake question
I am waiting until Wed. or Thursday I plan to serve it Saturday night and Monday lunch. I think Tuesday is too early.
Need updated info on kosher in Norfolk Va
What does the Market at Ghent sell in the way of kosher? Will there be cheese, meal mart meals, empire frozen fried chicken, pizza bagels? Any prepared food?
Carolina Cupcakery sounds like a dream come true--especially because they've been on Cupcake Wars, one of our favorite shows. Are all the cupcakes in the Ghent location truly kosher? Are they as good as they look?
How are the bagels at Yorgos? Are they worth the fact that nothing else there is kosher. Any other info much appreciated. Thanks.
Any Shabbos meals up for purchase? If so, what were they like?
Anyone tried Ladino Tapas Grill Yet?
Interesting video on this restaurant with interviews of the chef and co-owner. Towards the end, you get to see some of the food items which really do taste quite good. The issue is as stated here is the arrogance of the manager/owner. He should hire someone else to greet and shmooze and act interested in the customers.

kosher restaurant jezebel to open in nyc
I figured. That's fine. Gezunta Heit, as my Bahby would say. I do wish, though, that someone would go out and open a good kosher restaurant that was actually really kosher...and sexy. That would be nice.

"What's in a name?' The reality is that the name, the decor, the advertising choices...all that does set a tone. A restaurant should be a dining experience. The best restaurants at which I've eaten hit all the marks and set a tone. The problem in recent years is that no one cares too much about anything. Again, if they are marketing to me, then it's a little problem because it means there's a lack of thought or that someone is trying to make a point. I don't like either of those scenarios. If they are not marketing to me, then they can make whatever point they want to make.

The restaurants mentioned in the magazine do not have Orthodox kosher supervision, correct me if I'm wrong. If this isn't being marketed to the Orthodox Jewish market, then why would the owners care about the associations of the name? If they are marketing to me, then, yes, I would be confused at the choice as my associations with Jezebel are a tempting and inappropriate woman and Betty Davis from the movie. I wouldn't associate Betty with yummy food, but that's just me.
Horseradish question
Nah. It's not so much for the Mitzvah (we have Romaine too). It is a delicious experience with the Charoses and Matza. Sharp can't be beat.
AdinaA-- Blue eggs :)
The idea of using part of an egg with a bloodspot having been found in it is quite a thought for me. I will be asking about that this weekend. I have absolutely seen bloodspots over the recent years, just not as recently as before. I did have a once in a lifetime run-in with a completely bloody egg like sparrowgrass described. I was horrified by it. My neighbor promised us he would not get a rooster, but he is planning on goats (for the milk and the eating of the grass capabilities). We're okay with it. We have large properties and the kids like it.
Horseradish question
As per my wonderful Bahby who did it just like the old country: grate it with a hand grater only, do so quickly and store in a tightly sealed container only to be opened a crack when you put some on your plate, closed in between the time you take and the next person takes. My husband still messes up and hands me the open container, at which time, I close it and reopen it so he'll get the point. Our horseradish is painfully sharp and absolutely wonderful. Also, I like to buy whole horseradish at the Jewish stores right before the holiday because I tend to feel that they prioritize getting fresher ones, but I may be wrong about that.
AdinaA-- Blue eggs :)
Next door neighbor has chickens, lay brown eggs, no increased level of blood spots. AdinaA, sorry, but my grandmother who was a real Polish Jewish farm girl always threw out the entire egg and washed her hands if she found a bloodspot. I am never down to my last egg. Since they never spoil, pretty much, I always have an extra dozen on hand. Why would you be down to your last egg? I will say that there are less spots than when my Bahby taught me to look for them years ago.
any kosher hotels left in the Catskills?
Yes. I was at Kutschers one Rosh Hashana when the Buddhists came to check the place out. Quite an interesting scene in the lobby. Found out they were holding a retreat there in the weeks after. That was before the current owners took over.
Looking for an Israeli style toast....
Hmm. An Israeli style toast? L'Chaim? :) Actually, Shelly's 2 pizza in Monsey used to serve it on that kind of bread, but then stopped making it because they said there was not enough demand.
Anyone baking schlissel challah?
My friend actually had a good point. She said we should all carve in the numbers of our Shabbos combo locks because no one uses keys anymore. I made a key shape out of dough and attached it to the top. I did the actual key one year and couldn't help feeling that I was poisoning my children. That and the horrible quality of my Challah...
Anyone tried Ladino Tapas Grill Yet?
To be honest with you, the manager was a bit off-putting. You want to be overly accommodating and seem interested in pleasing. He is not able to. He doesn't know that that is his job. If he is part owner, he should hire someone. If he isn't, he should be replaced.

To answer my own question, they did not serve the guacamole at the table, but they did make it to order and served it in a traditional stone pot. The Passover menu was great, but we only had time for ceviche, guacamole and yucca fries, all good. The vibe was busy, young, a mix of Orthodox and others, some looked like they were just eating there as a regular business lunch. Very pleasant. Can't wait to go back when they have their regular menu.
Stab in the dark--any kosher for Pesach takeout in Livingston/Oranges area?
The key to Funplex involves food. You get there at opening (very important) do the Go Karts multiple times, sign up for multiple lazer tag games (they are by appt) and then do everything the others will want to do later, bumper cars, rides, etc. Then, leave when the others get there which is about 2 hours in and go eat (hence my query on the Kosher for Pesach food) and then return to do the foam frenzy where you relentlessly shoot foam balls at the masses. That is more fun than shooting alone. That's our system. It just doesn't work as well with no restaurants to go to.
Stab in the dark--any kosher for Pesach takeout in Livingston/Oranges area?
We were wondering about the Shoprite. Instead, we just ate the matza and cream cheese and then scarfed down a pretty hefty dinner when we got back home. Thought I'd try. Thx. Funplex is still our Number !.
Stab in the dark--any kosher for Pesach takeout in Livingston/Oranges area?
Will be in the area of Funplex, East Hanover today. Not sure we have time to bring more than matza cream cheese and tuna.

Did they serve the guacamole at the table as it says on the site?
Green Food Coloring
I don't get it. Blue and yellow food coloring mixed together makes green. Are you specifically trying for a natural option?
Kid friendly Passover foods
String cheese/american cheese, baby carrots (maybe not for a 1 year old). My kids love the annual cheese latkes that my mother makes. i will ask her for the recipe but i believe it involves farmer and cottage cheese, eggs, potato starch. We top it with cinnamon and sugar. Each child gets a little bowl of the cinnamon and sugar and dunks in his cheese latkes himself. We also buy the shredded mozzarella/cheddar mix and the kids eat it by itself in little baggies or on top of matza.
dad need recipes
1) Burgers are a 1-bowl item (1 lb chop meat, 1 egg, handful of bread crumbs, squirt or two of ketchup, onion and garlic powder and a bit of water). McCain's makes great varieties of frozen french fries and are available in most supermarkets. You dump them on a pan and shove them into the oven. Salad or canned corn.
2) Chicken cutlets cut in half lengthwise to make them thinner. One plastic plate of flavored bread crumbs, 1 plastic bowl of Pfeiffer French dressing. Dredge the cutlet in dressing, then crumbs, then place on bake sheet and bake for 30 minutes--no more than that. Israeli Couscous follow the instructions, ready in about 5 or 10 minutes. One pot only.
3) Chicken bottoms skinned. Dump Gold's Chicken Sauce--found in some regular supermarkets, all kosher stores-- on bottom of pan and top of cutlets. Sprinkle rosemary spice or herbs deProvence spice (Prima spices carries that and is often available) and some garlic powder. Shove in the oven for 1 1/2 hours. 2 cups water/1 cup rice, salt and olive oil. One pot total.
4) Dairy: Pasta and baked fish sticks. Salad on the side. One pot.
Bravo Pizza - now Kosher!
Ha, Deis. Bravo to them on the pizza. The secret is in the crust. We had the deep dish, regular slice, Mozzarella swirly slice and Grandma's Sicilian which is Marinara based. Delicious. When a patron asked for fries and was surprised to hear that there weren't any, I just smiled thinking of our recent Chow discussion about that. In the end, I didn't want to venture into pasta or sandwich as I didn't get the feeling that that would be wise. It is a pizza joint. BTW, around the corner is the new Pitopia and that looked really clean and busy from the outside (falafel, chumus, salads). I will try that place next time.
Bravo Pizza - now Kosher!
Going tomorrow night. How is the eggplant hero and Chicago deep dish?
Freezing Non-Grebrokhts Cakes?
My aunt freezes non-gebrukts cake for months (we have been served these cakes at family dinners months after Pesach and she just smiles and says "I baked too much last year") They taste fine. She does brownies, nut cake, mocha nut squares.
Who does Shabbos mode the best?
Yes. My repairman just told me to read the Star K info and I shall. Too bad he did fix the oven pretty efficiently. He contends that the GE with Shabbos Mode is more reliable.
