Hat Creek on Burnet....?

I wondered how Arby's felt about that sign...guess we now know. Glad to hear it's an expansion and they're not closing! Thanks for finding out for us....

Hat Creek on Burnet....?

Drove by this morning, and they were in the process of taking down the giant hat sign....Closing? Made to change their sign since it was the former Arby's sign? Anyone know the scoop?

RIP part 4

Just got an email that Mad Cakes (right next door to Triumph Cafe) is closing this Saturday. I did enjoy their randomly shaped cakes and lemon bars. Too bad.

Cutie Pies - Opening location on Burnet...

I never got a chance to visit their trailer, but husband and I drove by and noticed yesterday this was going up near the Genie Car Wash. Looks to be opening end of this week sometime. Has anyone been to the trailer? Any recommendations? Always excited to try something new in the neighborhood.

Here is a story I found online when searching today:

R I P part II

Drove by Burger House on Spicewood Springs on Saturday and it appeared closed. A cover over the sign, and lights out on a Sat early evening are not a good sign. Anyone confirm?

New South 1st Trailer - Cake balls?

I've only had these at parties and such where people brought them (and they're always tasty...) Saw this in the statesman today about a place called Holy Cacao opening up?

Anyone tried these? They look delicious...worth a trip down there? Just wondered!

Recommendations for a small group dinner on a sunday night?

Our supper club usually goes out once a year during the holidays so no one has to cook or host at their house...last year we went to Chez Nous and it was quite good. Looking for suggestions on someplace group friendly (8 people) and open on a Sunday night (was thinking about Paggi House but looks to be closed on Sunday).

Central Austin area. Varied menu (we have a vegetarian in the group) and not super expensive. (Thought about Olivia, but looks somewhat pricey).

One person also recommended Maria Maria (new downtown). Anyone been?

Can you recommend your favorite place to take a small group to have a nice dinner? I know that's pretty vague but I'd still be interested in suggestions :)

Thank you much!

TJ's Hickory Honey Hams

When we went to the last day of Brentwood Tavern (formerly there, and tasty) they said the land had been purchased for an Indian Restaurant and a Gem Museum (I'm not kidding.) Interesting to hear it's back on the market!

I'll have to give TJ's a try!

Good Soup in Austin?

The message below about the delivered meals/soup peddler made me think about how much I love soup. I'm a big fan of getting it for an on the go lunch for work.

I usually end up at Whole Foods getting their soup, and it's good, but wondered - anyone have any suggestions for really good places for soup? I'm North (Steck/MoPac area) and would love any local places you can recommend where one could pick up some yummy soup.

Thanks!

PS: as a side note - anyone order from Soup Peddler? Once I saw that link, I was considering it - looks like some yummy selections!

Best Austin Cookie

I really love all of the cookies at San Francisco Bakery (off Anderson Lane, behind the CVS). I think I have tried every flavor they have (choc chip, oatmeal, sugar, snickerdoodle and toffee) and they are really tasty.

Brooklyn Pie Company?

We ended up picking up a pizza last Friday night from here. The inside of the place is cute - very clean. A few tables, and some flat screen tv's actually. The people working there were really nice, and someone (the owner maybe) checked to make sure I had everything I ordered. Got a caprese salad (pretty good - obviously just made) and a 1/2 cheese and 1/2 pepperoni and mushroom pizza. got a large - it was a LOT of pizza. Sauce was fairly sweet (I liked it - husband didn't). Cheese was good, pep and mushroom were also good. Crust was thin, but not super thin. Kind of "cracker" like. I liked it, and would go back (probably to get a slice - not a whole pizza again.) I don't think my husband would (but he's from NJ, so he's got high standards for thin crust pizza!)

Brooklyn Pie Company?

Here is the link to their website, listing their new Mesa Location. I'll have to say - the pizza on the website does not look appetizing to me, but I wondered if others had tried it. :)

Brooklyn Pie Company?

Anyone tried the pizza from here? I just noticed it on Mesa today while driving over to Spicewood springs. Since the Saccone's we frequented burned down, I've been craving some thin crust pizza close to my house. Anyone have any experience with Brooklyn Pie?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Visit to San Antonio - restaurant suggestions? [moved from the Austin board]

Thanks so much for the suggestion (and for moving the post - whoever did that!) I bookmark the Austin board and didn't even think to look outside at other board options. Thanks!

Visit to San Antonio - restaurant suggestions? [moved from the Austin board]

HI there fellow Austin chowhounds. We're heading down to San Antonio tomorrow for a quick trip and are looking for dinner place suggestions. Not too expensive or fancy, and we'll have our 1 year old with us, so someplace kiddo friendly. My dad will be in from Chicago, so maybe something like some good tex mex or interior mex?

I've only been down there a few times from Austin...anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks so much for your help!

Brunch help - Moonshine, Eastside or Threadgills

Moonshine is great - everything I have had there at their brunch is really tasty. Since it's a buffet it's easy to get in and out with an infant since you can just go up and get what you need. My only advice is get there early if possible (I forget what time they open) because there can be a bit of a wait for seating...) Enjoy!
