Copper Beech Inn question
Pips is one of my favorites. We are there often and never have seen snobbery from the maitre d. Quite to the contrary actually. AJ is very warm and welcoming and always willing to chat. Tyler Anderson, the chef and AJ will soon be opening a new restaurant in Simsbury (the old Hopbrook site). As of a few weeks ago, it was unclear whether they would still operate Pips for the Copper Beech Inning in addition to running their new place. I'm not sure if Tyler is still in the kitchen but as far as I know the Simsbury restaurant is not open yet. The OP should call CBI to see if Tyler is still there.
Recommendations for fabulous food in Kennebunkport
My favorites include On the Marsh and White Barn Inn for dinner in Kennebunkport.
Lunch--Westbound from Windsor Locks, CT
Also in New Hartford on 44 is Portabella, an excellent red sauce Italian restaurant that is consistently good.
Salute in Hartford
I've been there and totally agree with you. I just never got around to writing it up for Chowhound. Please forgive me jkhulen and don't leave CH. I respect your opinions. The Southern NE Board needs you to stay.
North Haven-Wallingford-Meriden axis of eats
I highly recommend Ludal's in North Haven. It's mostly Italian but there are other choices as well. The rigatoni bolognese is right up there with the best I've had anywhere and the meatballs are light and tasty. Prices are very reasonable. Open for lunch and dinner. Urge you to try it.
seafood lunch in New London CT?
Captain Scott's Lobster Dock. Outside seating overlooking a marina and trains. No waiters. Order at the counter and wait for your name to be called to pick up your order. Hot and cold lobster rolls, fried fish, salads, even ice cream! Nice spot.
Non-mother's day birthday on mother's day in Hartford.
I would think most every restaurant will be full of Mothers Day revelers next Sunday. I recommend Firebox. It's a farm to table restaurant with a variety of entrees and a nice low key ambiance. I'm not sure what your ideal price point is but you can check their website for prices. I would also check out J's Restaurant and if you can talk the others in your party into Italian, you can try Vito's by the Park.
J.A.M.S.S. in Old Saybrook, CT
I agree. Their lunches are also quite good. Great sandwiches and large salads that you can customize by selecting the ingredients. Wish it was bigger but well worth the wait.
Sister Seeks Perfect Lobster Salad Roll in Connecticut.
Lobster Landing is very good bit I'm pretty sure they only offer hot (with butter) lobster rolls. OP is looking for a lobster salad (cold with mayo) roll.
Last-minute dinner for 12, Back Bay
Sorrelina is within walking distance from your hotel. Very nice, classy but not stuffy.
Need an Italian Reco in CT
I've only been there at night and agree that the sauce is not that good at that time.
Need an Italian Reco in CT
I know the OP asked for "family style" Italian with large portions and while Log Cabin in Clinton does provide that, I cannot recommend them. It is quantity over quality there imo. Red sauce at LC is very average, no real distinctive or memorable flavor. Also, while Joey Garlic's has an excellent burger and good pizza it is nowhere near the quality of Bricco's. Bricco's (West Hartford or Glastonbury). One caveat about Bricco's, however. Further down on this thread, the OP characterizes Bricco as "quieter than Joey Galics." Not really true. Bricco's can get pretty loud.
Foodie driving through CT....what are some MUST try's ??
Totally agree with Katty on Bill's vs Lenny and Joe's. L&J's has much better food. Besides the fried classics, L&J has excellent fresh grilled salmon, swordfish and (often) mahi mahi. And then of course, there's their perfect cole slaw. Just ask Katty.

I'm a big fan of Lenny and Joe's in Westbrook. They have an excellent cold lobster roll and also do a hot butter version.
Restaurants That Can Handle group of 10-15
Thx, Bill. I like the G W Fins sample menu on line. Just wondering though if they ever offer beef or chicken entrees. While most of our group are good with seafood, there may be some who are not seafood eaters. Thx.

What do you all think of Bon Ton Cafe? A friend whose opinions I respect just suggested it to me?
Restaurants That Can Handle group of 10-15
I will be in your lovely city in June for a conference. I'm staying at the Hilton on Poydras but we will have a car. Each year I am tasked with finding the restaurant because I'm the foodie in the group. The group changes a little each year but everyone is looking for good food that is representative of the area where we are. We are basically 40 plus in age with a variety of tastes. Reading your board, I am considering Brigtsen's, Cafe Atchafayla, Galatoire's, Casamento's, Commander's Palace and La Boca but I'm certainly open to other suggestions. Of those that I've mentioned, do you think they can all handle a large party of 10-15? We don't need a private room but that would be fine. Thanks in advance for your help.
Several days in Groton/Mystic/New London -
I also love Noah's. The new Sea Horse in Noank doesn't seem as good to me as the old Sea Horse. Zack's is very aveage and their Sea Horse sister restaurant is not up to the quality of the old Sea Horse imo. For a good lobster roll, I recommend Capt. Scott's Lobster Dock in New London. They do a cold and a hot lobster roll and both are quite good. For Italian, I recommend Tony D's in New London and for an amazing grinder (don't order the large, you won't be able to finish it) you should try Hamilton Market, also in New London. The roast beef is the best we've had anywhere...
Dinner near Hartford Hilton on Trumbull St
And my favorite not on that list is Firebox. A short cab ride away...

CBeth,
When will you make the final decisions?

Also, great sub sandwiches at Hamilton Market in New London.
Breakfast and lunch at Somewhere in Time in Old Mystic.

In New London, I recommend Tony D's.
In Groton, I recommend Paul's Pasta.
Stella Doro's in Old Saybrook - - Reopened??!!!
We were there Saturday night. There's a new menu which is significantly shorter. My first thought was that Robert Irvine of Restaurant Impossible had paid them a visit since his predictable fix of almost every restaurant he visits usually includes shortening the menu. But, no Irvine in sight. Strangely, they were still using the bar area as the dining room while the front dining room was vacant. I was told the front room would begin to be used again in a week or so. (Maybe Irvine will be redoing that dining room (j/k). The food was the same as the old Stella D'Oro and the recently departed Ruffino's, very good. It wasn't crowded but there WERE more diners than usual.... Hope they can survive...

For CT, I would wholeheartedly endorse Still River Cafe and add...
Pip's at Copper Beech Inn in Ivoryton
Mill at 2T -- Tarrifville
The Cottage -- Plainville
Liv's -- Old Saybrook
Metro Bis -- Simsbury
Cafe Routier -- Westbrook
Noah's -- Stonington Borrough
Piccolo Arancio -- Farmington
looking for a great resturant near xl center hartford ct
Haven't been there in quite a while but assume it's still typical bar food. My choices and those of NJ are an attempt to get you better quality food offerings. I would also add Dish.
looking for a great resturant near xl center hartford ct
Agree with nj's picks and woul add Salute, Feng and Black Eyed Sally's.
Iguanas Ranas Taqueria (Middletown, CT): tasty bargain!
Has the bar opened yet, Katty?
Recs for casual dinner for 25 between Old Saybrook and New London.
Re Ruffino's....Agree that food is good but contacting them may be an issue. Every time we're there, we are usually the only ones in the dining room. Sometimes one or two other tables are full. Two weeks ago, we went in on a Sunday night and no one was there to greet or seat us. I literally called out, "helloooo!" No one responded... We left and had a great (as always) meal at Tiberio.
Romantic Dinner, staying in Beacon Hill
Love Scampo but it doesn't really fit the OP's desire for "on the quiet side...."
