mexican food in charlotte?
I was sad to see the Central Ave. La Unica go. On the other hand, I quite like Carnitas Guanajuato on Albermarle these days much more. Try it!
Breakfast Tacos in CLT?
Can anyone suggest places? The Internet only gives me Cocina Latina on Albemarle, but I gotta think there are probably some others in that area.
A less-crowded place for Mother's Day in Charlotte
I really need some suggestions...I know it's a terrible day to decide to go out to eat but it's that combined with law school graduation. My father is a meat-and-potatoes person and not terribly receptive to fancier meals so the places I would choose are probably not going to please him (I really want Chima) and he's also stingy. Someplace in South End/Dilworth/Elizabeth would be best. The other thing is that I'm looking for some place that is serving around 4:00...an odd time.
Thanks!
Finally - a Middle Eastern Bakery in Charlotte!
Neomonde also has a very nice sit-down restaurant in downtown Raleigh now called Sitti. Same excellent food, gorgeous space and there's alcohol available.
Boudin Noir in Charlotte?
It's not Boudin Noir exactly, but sometimes you can get kaszanka at A&A European deli on Independence. The other Polish grocery store on South Blvd. may carry it as well.
Charlotte - downtown or near Ovens for Tapas type fare?
Dandelion Market in Uptown could also be an option. Their menu is more limited than Soul, but they have some delicious cocktails.
Looking for Merguez-Charlotte
If you know where I can find it, please let me know...
Korean food in Charlotte
Sigh. I wish I could've made it but I'm too backlogged with work for final exams right now. Hopefully next time; I really do want to try Fern so make sure you let me know.
Oh how it's fallen... [Charlotte, NC]
Poor Penguin...
I had not been there since the change and I never intended on going, but the best laid plans...oh, it's soulless now. Empty, in terms of a crowd (one waitress handling all six people) and a vibe. And the food...I'm pretty sure the chili on my burger was canned Texas Pete. The menu sections seemed to be titled after the sort of verbal diarrhea Guy Fieri spews on a regular basis (I guess they're still cashing in on his visit, which is funny since it was the old Penguin he came to see).
Disclaimer: I did not choose it-it was a friend's birthday. I've tried to explain to him, to no avail, about the changes, and that we can essentially get the old Penguin food at the Diamond. He doesn't much care about the loyalty and politics, but he did admit it was not the same and the food was not as good.
It was just sad and pathetic. And the burger was not good in the least. Who puts lettuce on a Carolina-style burger (sorry, I forgot its special name on the menu) anyway? Like I said, I had not planned on returning once the owners had their way with it, and I didn't like reneging on that. Having now been, I can assure you I won't make that mistake again.
Addictive Snow Cones at Pelican's, Durham
They are the best sno-cones I've ever had, and I've been to Matsumoto's on Oahu. My sister lives close to the original in Garner and I make her go every time I visit. The sno-creme is worth every penny.
My Trip to Fayetteville, NC
I'm sorry you had to go to Fayetteville in the first place.
Jerusalem Middle Eastern-Charlotte
I didn't think the work was heading that far up. I know Bascom's Corner at Sharon Amity & Independence is being torn down, but this place is at the corner of SA and Albemarle.
Jerusalem Middle Eastern-Charlotte
Has anyone here eaten there? Thoughts? I am still trying to find a good place that's not overly-pricey (Kebab House!) for falafel, etc. I never knew about this place until yesterday when I was heading up Sharon Amity.
Baklava in Charlotte NC
I always thought the baklava at the Landmark was delicious (not sure if it's made in-house) and it used to be a substantial piece. I haven't been in a while though.
White Pies in Charlotte?
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good white-style pizza in town? Fuel and Hawthorne's versions are passable, but I miss a really good one.
Bars in Ballantyne/Pineville
Suggestions? I'd prefer someplace quieter and that has a decent selection of microbrews. I don't head down to that part of town very often.
Looking for specialty shopping sources in Charlotte
Ha! My girlfriend and I have been calling it the Taj Ma-Teeter for ages.
Loco Lime in Huntersville, NC...love it or leave it?
I haven't been to the one in Huntersville, but the one on Central here in Charlotte was awful.
Looking for specialty shopping sources in Charlotte
It's actually there, if you click on the name of the store on the right hand side of the article. It's not very obvious, though, to be sure.

Oh, and this just showed up on my Facebook feed; may be worth checking out:

A&A on Independence is excellent for Russian and eastern European goods. I know they get most of their kielbasa from butcher shops in Greenpoint, Brooklyn so you know it's authentic.
Local Honey in Charlotte
Is there anyplace around that sells local honey and/or any particular cultivators you'd recommend? Farmer's markets, etc...I need to try to control my allergies.
SC Barbecue near Charlotte
Any good places just over the border, say in Rock Hill or Fort Mill? I think I'm ready to try some.
Raleigh area - candidates for Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives
The Penguin here is dead. Long live the Diamond.
Date Night restaurants in Charlotte
I love Soul, but I think someplace new might be nice. Recommendations?
Has anyone been to the new Penguin yet? (Charlotte)
If I ever go and they say "Welcome to the Bird(TM)!" when I walk in, they will get the bird alright.
Luckily, Pinky's is right around the corner from school, so I'm set.
