Financial District Lunch Recommendations 2010
surprisingly, the korean food at cafe hanover was pretty decent - if you're in a rush. otherwise, i'd recommend soma by nature. (the menus are a little different at both places. so it can depend on what you're craving.) and i miss the banh mi sandwiches from the cart in front of 10 hanover. the indian food from baluchi masala was good and the people were quite nice!
Help making macarons
love lebovitz but i've found more direction on macarons from these two blogs..

one of them actually has a link to a primer she wrote for some magazine but for the life of me i can't find it!
oh! and serious eats had a post on them awhile back...

Beware of Molly Wizenberg recipes
phew! i thought it was me...
she had a recipe in gourmet / bon appetit (can't remember which mag off the top of my head) that sounded amazing - chocolate, coffee, brown butter...and i made it TWICE. both went into the trash.
Good Korea town place for a big group
most restaurants that do korean bbq should be able to handle a group that large. shilla and kum gang san come to mind first. ma dang sui is good but might be a tad small...
iso a restaurant for lunch with visiting parents
we're planning on going this friday...does that count as the "weekend"? is subway still the best option?
thanks for the other suggestions.
cook's illustrated - magazine or online?
i'm debating between subscribing to the magazine or cooksillustrated.com. the magazine is $24.95 / yearly vs $34.95 / yearly for the website. does anyone have an opinion as to which service they like better and why?
thanks!
iso a restaurant for lunch with visiting parents
we're planning on visiting the brookyln botanical gardens and i would like to take them to a nice lunch. ideally, this casual restaurant would be by the water (but does not have to be) with good food at reasonable ($$-$$$) prices. my father loves all foods and my mom would love some good seafood.
any suggestions? tia!
Pizza Joint for Private Party?
otto...not sure if they have a private room but they do offer a group dining option.

Korean BBQ recomendations?
madangsui is reported to have the best meat but i didn't love it when we tried it (and we tried a pretty good selection).
i agree with the won jo suggestion...they bring the grill / hot charcoals to the table. just avoid the seafood pancake...it had quite literally ONE oyster and the tiniest bits of nondescript pieces of seafood and still cost $20!
i also really like chung moo ro. the last time i went they served bbq with the rice wrappers, which not many restaurants bother with (apparently, it's a little messy?) but is SO good.
Best food(ie) shopping in Manhattan
TOTALLY agree...
our $10 newport steaks from florence were far more flavorful than the triple-digit dinner at bobby van's.
baby-friendly celebration restaurant?
we're celebrating a girlfriend's birthday and would like to be able to bring along her baby...any nice restaurant suggestions that will be ok with a very well-behaved baby?
thanks in advance!
Chelsea Sushi?
actually, we really liked hana and think it's worth a try.
the restaurant was clean; the service was great; the fish
was fresh and the other cooked entrees were decent as
well. for a neighborhood sushi spot, i thought it was quite
good and priced reasonably.
i'd skip over monster though.
Iso best grocery store kimchi?
actually, i have asked gahm mi oak and alas they said no. =(
h-mart carries kimchi...but the freshness can really vary.
the last time i was in kum gang san, i noticed that they sell kimchi as well. if it's the same as they serve in the restaurant, i found it to be good. again, freshness is really important to me though and that part, i'm don't know as i've never bought from kum gang san.
Korean delivery to 45th & 6th
i've eaten at both and i prefer han bat - in the restaurant and for delivery.
both are good and decent but korean palace seems to be a bit pricier.
han bat tastes more like the kind of food my mom would make at home.
i haven't ever ordered the bbq items off their menu for delivery so i can't
comment on that but i have had the soups and bi bim bap delivered to
the office on several occasions.
