Simple Question: How many resturants in Toronto have been put on the market at their highest peak of success?

Monk's Table Sliding?

Have not been in a while but always enjoyed it. So how many owners has. Monk's had? I wonder if opening the other location and it's quick demise over extended the owners too much.

Keg Mansion vs. Bardi's

Does Jacob's change there steak menu every day? I know you can really the difference between a cheapass steak and a great one, but how about the jumps in the middle? Say instead of spending $80-100, you go for something $140-$160?

Keg Mansion vs. Bardi's

Do you think other steak houses have got better and or have these once great places really declined to such a low level.

I mean if Bardi's brought in a product level of say Jacob's would they once again be a go to place?

Very few other places have done what Jacob's does for a reason, you got to be pretty sure of your market.

Keg Mansion vs. Bardi's

Has a place like Tom Jones gone from being a top steak house in the city to just ok.

What does being stuck in a bygone era actually mean?

Keg Mansion vs. Bardi's

To be honest with you, have never been to Tom Jones, my father through my childhood essentially had a table at Bardi's. Bardi's, Tom Jones, Barberians are old school steak house pretty much associated with a different time.

I get that there is a segment of the foodie population that finds place like these to be some of the most uninteresting places around. But to each put Bardi's in the same sentence as the Keg is pretty silly.

2015 RESTAURANT Closings in Toronto? To June 30...

How did such experience people run such a crapy place after they transformed it from the landmark that Centros. I agree makeovers are risky, especially when it comes to the changing type/level of dinning experience you offer.

Somebody really needs to take a chance on Yonge and Eglington with something interesting and innovative , the area needs it. When was the last time it has a new must go "It" spot?

Keg Mansion vs. Bardi's

Has Bardi's really declined that much, at one point it was one of the top steak houses in the city, the first to serve Black Angus. It was the go to place in the city. I know it's not the most interesting place, in many ways still set in a day gone by, with its white linen formal setting. But for me I have soft spot in it.

Centro is now Vita Sociale

Centro was open 25 years , Vita lasted a year and a half, kind of surprised it went down the way it did, considering it has a vet at the helm.

The Burger's Priest new location??

Was the letdown big enough for you that you will not go back at all or just that the Stockyards are better and if timing is not an issue you rather go there?

I would rather eat the bowling shoes!!!!! [The Ballroom]

Wonder if this will be the same type of thing with ping pong instead of bowling, being just down the street, an upscale sporting experience for the young downtown crowd with disposable income to part ways with.

Longo's take-home food

Living at Yonge and Eglington, I have not shopped at Longo's that much, the chickens sound good, is their product selection pretty consistent across the chain.

Bar Italia- great for large groups!

That sounds like a great time, was it a prefix menu/how much a person did it cost? So many choices did you have on your limited menu. I am in the early stages of planning a birthday and your post has caught my attention.

Winterlicious at Canoe

Some of the talk here makes me long for the days of 54th. I know Canoe has been here for a while, but who remembers the 54th, what an old school way, red meat and liquor, to make a pop culture reference it was something out of the "Mad Men" era. I am 33 so I remember going there with my dad as a kid and it was so classic.

What are the Best Steakhouses?

I am still partial to Bardi's on York Street, one of the true classic oldschool steakhouses, I know it might not appeal to the younger crowd looking for inovative food but I love it. The likes of Bardi's, Hys, Barbarians etc. still have that charm to me that some of the newer places lack, I guess it all depends on your mood at the time.

Is fine dining at lunch in Toronto a dying experience?

In this enviroment and times a changing ss fine dining at lunch in Toronto a dying experience? I think with expense accounts flowing no where near as much these days if at all in some cases and resturants changing their direction, becoming more casual is this the case. I think the JK announcement shows this along with what some of the other chefs around town are doing.

I think the days of a resturant tayloring itself towards the expense account crowd are in the past, I think it is suicide if you do that, great tasting food does not have to cost an arm and a leg.

Lunch and dinner are two completely different animals.

Charlie's Burger?

I am curious, how money evening's have CB done and since the first one has the price remained the same, along with health what would happen if a patron was not satisfied with there meal and did not think it was worth the price, what recourse would they really have outside of deciding never to attend a future event .

What would happen if something along the lines of CB popped and served crap cheap food, all it would take is one of these and then run with the money. You could charge $100 a head, spend say $25-$30 per person and pocket the rest, not bad for a nights work, I am sure you would have no shot at doing another, but who cares when you cleared severeal $1000.

Charlie's Burger?

I am curious, how was the payment handled, were you told going in what is was and in what manner was it collected, before or after, also was it only cash or could you use your credit card, I am just curious because with the exposure of Charlie's Burger cheap imitations could be spawned where subpar food could be served, heck all it would take is to do one with cheap food and you would make a killing.

CB had about 35 people at the event on the weekend, they most likely have a couple hundred if not more people who have signed up on the website, so they could have just as easily invited 70.

What to try at Ki?

We all know what KI is, the bar is for the after work crowd looking to be scene and the expense account crowd. I mean most high end restaurants downtown would be up the creek without expense accounts. I also think that when a huge amount of their clientele is not actually paying for it, the restaurant knows it and it reflects in their food.

JK church street cafe now open.

Have not been to JK in ages, maybe even a couple years, is this in the location as the old resturant?

I remember when he opened the resturant followed by the wine bar. I think at one point the wine bar could have a hour wait and the resturant at the same time be less than half full. I am sirprised that they were never really able to shorten the wait by diverting people to the resturant.

Terroni - Mediocre food and BAD Sevice

I have two questions about Terroni, is the food pretty consistent arcoss the three Toronto locations and I guess you can include L.A. if you have been to it, also what was in the Courthouse location before they moved in.

What was your favourite restaurant that went downhill after they solidified their status

What was your restaurant that went downhill after they solidified their status, it could have been because of a chef change, a renevation that just changed its character, I think for most people it would be higher end fine dining resto but I am curious to know what you think?
