5 Best Stops on a TX/Southwest Roadtrip?

Hi, Sorry to jump on this message so late. But I am a recent transplant to El Paso and just saw a commercial yesterday for the H&H Car Wash. I thought i was imagining it when I heard the announcer say they were a James Beard awardee. Now I have to go check it out!

Blackbird vs Avec

Hey just wanted to say thank you for all the comments and suggestions. We finally made it to Chicago for July 4 and had a fabulous dinner at Blackbird. the food, service, ambience, location, etc were all wonderful.

Blackbird vs Avec

Thank you so much for all your advice, especially about the seating arrangements at Avec (and to pastry634 for asking questions I hadn't thought of). Unfortunately your advice hasn't made our decision any easier because everything sounds soooo gooood. But it's good to know that whatever we decide, we will not be disappointed. Thanks a million!

Blackbird vs Avec

Thank you so much. The menu at all three places look great. I'd be happy to eat at all three, but we only have one night available. I'm still leaning toward Avec. For a Saturday night, what time is the best time to go after the dinner rush? I think 5:30pm might be too early since we'll be doing a lot of sightseeing during the day.

Blackbird vs Avec

My friends and I will be in Chicago over July 4th weekend. We want to try either Blackbird or Avec. Based on reviews and menus, I would prefer Avec but I see they don't take reservations. If we go on Saturday night, is it worth our while to wait for a table or should we just reserve a table at Blackbird? Truth is, two out of three of us cannot drink alcohol, so we'd be going for the food not the wine. Also, we're staying at the Wyndam near N. Michigan and W. Ontario. We'll probably take a cab to the restaurant. Will it be easy to catch a cab back to our hotel after dinner?

El Paso supermarkets?

Thanks everyone. Now does anyone have suggestions for a good Asian market in El Paso?

El Paso supermarkets?

So I checked out Sun Harvest and was very pleasantly surprised. It's like halfway between a Trader Joe's and a Whole Foods. Great butcher, cheese, wine, fruit, frozen foods, nuts selection. I just wish it had a better prepared foods section like Trader Joe's. But I am happy with the recommendation. Now I just need to find nice places to eat. Love bistro types. Anyone have recs?

El Paso supermarkets?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check it out this weekend!

El Paso supermarkets?

Just moved to El Paso. Am desperate to find some decent supermarkets (preferably on the West side). Been to two stores that were kinda dingy. There's no HEB here. Other than Costco, does anyone have any suggestions?

Rosslyn lunch eats

Tono Sushi is a sushi buffet where you pay by the pound. it's fast and convenient. I've had better, but it's not bad when you're in a rush. A great new place is Chop't. It's on Lynn Blvd just off Wilson. great huge salads.

Bahn trang

Hi, the correct spelling is banh trang (the "h" goes after the "n" -- counterintuitive to American spelling). I recommend the Eden Center, the mecca of the Vietnamese community in the DC area. It's at Seven Corners in Falls Church on Wilson Blvd. Several grocery stores at in the complex. In Maryland, I suggest Maxim Supermarket, a Chinese grocery up in North Rockville where Rockville Pike (355) turns into Hungerford Road. It's just north of Rockville town center. You might also get lucky at Korean Korner at the corner of Viers Mill Road and Randolph Road in Kensington/Rockville.

Going away party in Center City

We're looking to throw a going away party for our friends who are moving out of the area. Any suggestions for a private room that can accommodate up to 16 adults and 10 toddlers? Ideally the menu would have grown-up options as well as kid-friendly options. And the venue would be relaxed enough to let 10 kids under age 5 run amok in a private room.

New & Improved Grapeseed

Now that I know you're a wine and cheese lover, I should tell you that Grapeseed's amazing wine bar remains intact. That's the only thing they basically preserved from the old design. There's now a visible wine "cellar" in an adjacent room. It's one thing to see their wine list. It's another to see all the bottles in one place.

thanks for the advice abt sending something back if i think it's too salty. i think we're just so conditioned to be polite that we wouldn't want to hurt anyone's feelings or feel like we are wasting their money by sending back a dish for another dish, especially if it's a small shop. But since I now know that Grapeseed skews on the salty side for my palate, I should remember to request less salt when I order. We keep coming back even though twice it's been to salty for me because we really do like the food. As for Tavira, we've never been. to be honest, because we live in downtown bethesda and have only lived in the metro area for 2 years, we have an embarrassment of riches right outside our front door and still haven't maxed out our Bethesda choices. But I'll keep Tavira in mind whenever we do decide to venture out.

New & Improved Grapeseed

we were there last Saturday night. it was the last night of Bethesda Restaurant Week. the place was packed. It's definitely bigger since the remodel. I think the space has made it a lot noisier. I live nearby and walk by it every evening around 6pm. never see it packed during the week. But on weekends and maybe later in the night it does get crowded. The menu seems to be the same. I was really impressed by the efficient service considering that it was Restaurant Week. The owner still makes a point of walking around once in a while. They did a really nice job with the redesign. If you liked it before, it's worth checking it out again. Now I have a question for you: Do you think their food is too salty? 2 of my last 3 meals there have been too salty. (and I like salt). But I keep coming back because i do love the food.

What happened to RarelyLegal Grille in Bethesda?

well i'm glad to hear we didn't miss much. thanks

What happened to RarelyLegal Grille in Bethesda?

Does anyone know what is going on with Rarely Legal Grille in Bethesda? We had dinner reservations for 7pm on Saturday night (Feb 2). We had car trouble and missed our reservation. By the time we called at 7:30pm to see if we could still be seated, we were told they were filled to capacity. But later that night, we passed by at 8:45pm and the restaurant was dark and empty. A sign on the door said, they were closed for a few days to fix some problems. Looking back, when we called at 7:30pm and were told they were at capacity, we didn't hear any background noise. What's going on over there?

Shepherdstown WV restaurants

definitely try 3 Onions. The food is wonderful. I must admit, I have (had?) a low image of W.Va. until we stumbled into this restaurant late one night. we had no idea W.Va could be so elegant. The chef was just about closing down the kitchen, but they agreed to fire up the grill for us. it was a wonderful meal with superb service. even though they were ready to close, they never rushed us, and the food did not feel rushed either. And I agree with another reviewer to avoid Yellow Brick Bank. overpriced and over rated. food was just OK. service was atrocious. several times we had to get up and walk around the restaurant in search of our waitress, who when she would show up at our table, ask if everything was ok, and then run off before we could even answer. Our water glasses were empty for most of our dinner. besides, the Pepto Bismal pink paint color is so atrocious, it's enough to kill your apetite.

Good birthday dinner for picky fam in Rockville/Bethesda?

we walked by Rarely Legal Grill on Saturday night (Feb 2) and it was empty. a sign on the door said, they were closed to fix some problems for a few days. so i would definitely call ahead if I were you
