Early Anniversary Dinner Sunday Night in Baltimore (Vegetarian)

Didn't realize you meant this past Sunday! Hope you make it to Mr. Rain at some point?

Early Anniversary Dinner Sunday Night in Baltimore (Vegetarian)

I'd say give Mr. Rain's Fun House a try - Visionary Arts Museum.

Usually at least two veggie main dishes, in addition to salad's and appetizers. Gorgeous space. Creative drinks. I have to admit it has been over a year since we went, and I enjoyed it, but was not as completely blown away as I would have liked. But unique enough to recommend for a special occasion.

Best Happy Hours and/or Weeknight Specials in Baltimore?

I got an e-mail from Charleston about special Wednesday nights in their bar from 5:30 - 7:30. I think it starts tonight, so I'd love to hear from anyone who goes? Specials on some bubbly and then some complimentary food. Sounds pretty amazing - free food is usually good. Free food at Charleston seems hard to miss.

JFX Farmer's Market 2011!

The Cherry Chocolate granola from Michele's is amazing. Such a treat. Over in the smaller market along with the pizza. I wonder how they decide who goes where? Is a spot cheaper over in the adjunct market? The smoothie people now seem to be in the median between the two...

Lenten events / church dinners? (Baltimore)

The Guide is pretty limited. Either there is really only one fish fry every Friday (Knights of Columbus in Dundalk and only 1 - 6) or they are missing things? Does anyone know of any others?

My BIL in OH goes to one every Friday. I didn't realize it was more of a mid-west thing...

New Indian in Fells Point (Baltimore)?

I did a search and didn't see a topic on the new Indian place in Fells Point (where the Thai place on Aliceanna between Washington and Wolfe was). I should have written the name down when we drove by yesterday, so I am hoping someone knows it, and knows if it is open yet or when it might be opening. Since Mehek closed, options for Indian have been limited to India Rasoi, which we like OK, but it is nice to have a choice.

Snacks/Drinks near DC Convention Center for large group

Meeting up with some friends in DC this weekend for a convention, and we'd like to go out Saturday night, but people want to keep it casual (and I think we are too large and too late for a reservation anywhere). It will be about 15 people, and we are find standing in a bar area, as long as there are tables for some snacks/appetizers and drinks. Is there anything like this within walking distance of the convention center? It would be nice if the food was great, but at this point, we'd settle for OK.

Recs for Kid friendly near Union Station?

Was hoping for thoughts about a Friday dinner near Union Station that would be friendly enough for a 2.5 yr old. I know everyone says this, but she is used to going out and well-behaved, but we are looking for something casual and where we won't feel too out of place with her. It does need to be near the station, convention center or Hyatt as we have to check in for a conference pretty soon after dinner.

In the search for Union Station, Jaleo and Toscana Cafe were all mentioned. Thoughts about taking a 2.5 yr old to one of them?

Best desserts at a restaurant in Baltimore?

One of our favorite things to do is to get dinner one place and then go to Charleston and sit at the bar and order dessert. We are never disappointed. It's a great place for people-watching, you don't need a reservation, it keeps costs relatively under control, you have access to an amazing wine list and top notch cocktails, the service is stellar, and you usually get a tray of extra cookies/amuse bouche type mini-desserts, even when ordering one dessert to split between two people.

sandwiches in baltimore

I am a fan of Rosina Gourmet. I usually stick to the mozzarella sandwich as a veggie, and it always delivers. Great bread.

Carrot Cake - Baltimore City?

It's not exactly a craving (although pregnant with twins would make you think otherwise), but I would love to find a great piece of (preferably) to-go carrot cake. Suggestions? I'd like to stay within the city limits, although could be persuaded it is worth a drive to one of the burbs. Thanks!

Breakfast Burritos in Baltimore

I am not sure it is what you are looking for, but I love Dmitri's Salsa Burritos at Blue Moon in Fells Point. You get two (I end up bringing on home), and they are full of eggs, yummy cheese, and Blue Moon's specialty - their hash browns. There is a meat option too. They are not smothered - just a nice serving of homemade salsa on the top.

Bachelorette dinner recs in Inner Harbor/Fells Point/Canton area?

Diablita Cantina at Central and Bank (Harbor Eastish) has fairly tasty Mexican food, a small free parking lot 1/2 block away (pay lot across the street), yummy sangria, and a back room that I am not sure could hold 20, but it would be pretty darn close. Definitely casual.

key lime juice in Baltimore?

Wondering if someone knows of where I might find key lime juice in the Baltimore area? I've checked Whole Foods and Trader Joes...

JFX Farmer's Market 2010

I thought the most unique new thing were the hummus guys? Did anyone else sample? Surprise Cake Hummus. Cinnamon Raisin Hummus. Sounds odd, and it is, but the taste sort of grew on us and it seems like Cinnamon Raisin Hummus on a bagel would probably be healthier than cream cheese?

Baltimore Italian

We were there for lunch last week and were a bit disappointed. Good food but expensive for lunch - $16.00 for only about 6 Agnolotti pockets. Usually when I pay that much, I think there will be enough for left overs and there wasn't. And this didn't include a salad, which is why I do like Chipparelli's better. Prices include the salad. The lasagna was also small and quite pricey ($19.00).

I didn't realize until I just looked that we were given the dinner menu prices even though we were there at 3:00 and they say lunch goes until 4:00. I should have known something was up. This is another strike against them.

Baltimore-Can't decide where to go for dinner tonight - HELP

We went to Tibrizis back in December 2009 and had a light snack and drinks at the bar (we were meeting friends for dinner at Mr. Rain's Fun House - something to consider for tonight) and very much enjoyed ourselves. The falafel, hummus, and pita were spot on - dishes we judge as gatekeeping dishes for Mediterrean. We are looking forward to going back and trying full dinner. Do you remember which small plates seemed to have the same sauce so that we can avoid ordering more than one?

Miguel's Cocina y Cantina: no es bueno

So odd. When we were there last month (February), we had a great experience, as did others who replied to the thread. I definitely think it is worth trying and wonder if they are still getting service kinks worked out.

Miguels - Baltimore - Silo Point

After being turned away from Sullivan's which closed at 1:00 this afternoon (Friday 2/5/2010 pre-storm-of-the-century) when there was a not a speck of snow that had stuck to the ground yet, we made our way over to Miguels' in Silo Point. We had a tasty lunch with nice sized portions, great spice and yummy drinks. I didn't realize it has only been open about 3 weeks? Beautiful space - a bit on the loud side, but I thought this might be good for next time we go when we might have our 20 mo. old.

I had the an order of scrumptious taquitos - there were four of them - Hongos Roasted mushrooms, cactus, epazote, asadero cheese w/ tomatillo sauce for $5.00. An amazing bargain. If I had known there were going to be four, I might not have also gotten a quesadilla, but I did. The Oaxaca Huitlacoche, corn, mushroom and asadero cheese ones. Also only $5.00. Nice earthy mushroom flavor.

The fellow had some brisket tacos - 3 in each order and an order of beef and pork empanada's with a mole sauce that he practically licked off the plate.

The sangria was more juicy than liquor-y, but I like it this way. He had a special margarita with jalapeno - should have asked the price - it was $8.50 - cheaper than some places in town, but a bit more than we like to pay.

We had a cinnamon cake dessert thing that wasn't overly sweet, which was perfect. It came with sipping chocolate, had chocolate frosting and there was some sort of cinnamon custard on the side.

I would love to see this place do well, but it's not easy to find. Check out the website for directions - http://www.miguelsbaltimore.com/ It is on the first floor of the big Silo Point complex. We entered in the main drive, but had to drive around to the back.

Really, does a great latte exist in Baltimore?

I just had a latte at Chocolatea that seems to meet your criteria. I am definitely not a latte specialist, having come to coffee drinking late in life, but there was definitely foam left when I was done drinking. I actually thought too much foam and which got me thinking of the distinction between latte and cappuccino again and how there often doesn't seem to be much difference when they are made wrong.

Advice for fells point business dinner

What about Henninger's? They have that nice side dining area that is pretty quiet. Good food and I never think of it as an expensive place to drink? And on Tuesdays Jack the bartender is there - makes great mixed drinks.

One Eyed Mike's also has that nice back dining area. Good food. Not sure about their wine list.

I think Cinghiale has half price bottles of wine on Tuesdays, which might bump it back into your price range? You can search for other Tuesday specials at 600block.com.

Where to find Glass Bottle Milk - Baltimore

Besides the local farmer's markets (downtown, Waverly, etc.), does anyone know of places to buy South Mountain Creamery or other farm-fresh milk in glass bottles during the week? I think I've seen glass jug milk at Belvedere Square, but if there were other places, it would be good to know about them for mid-week when we miss the weekend markets.

Langermanns...any info on him post-Georgia Browns?

I called today (1/4/2010) and they are open. I didn't ask when they opened, though. Has anyone been and what was the verdict?

Special occasion dinner in Baltimore

We went to B&O for my honey's birthday and really enjoyed it. Beautiful space. Creative food and drinks. The special on the night we were there was a mixed grill that came out on a pig ceramic cooker, so you could cook the meat as long as you wanted to. Definitely worth a try...

Vegetarian Tasting Menus in Vegas - want 2009/2010 information

I searched the board for this topic and could only find 2007 information that I am not sure is valid any longer (ex. Tableau at Wynn was mentioned as having a veggie tasting menu, but now they look to only do breakfast and lunch?).

Does anyone have any current suggestions for a vegetarian tasting menus? Wine pairings would be great, but not a requirement.

And even places that are good, but not fabulous would be appreciated as a place to start looking.

Pazo -- whoa, that was awful

We had a very different experience about a month ago with friends from out of town. The calamari eaters raved about the squid, so maybe it was a better choice than the octopus, but that sort of inconsistency is not a good thing with so many choices.

I wish I could remember more of what we had, but everyone was satisfied. The pizza has a unique crust. The fish eaters like the ceviche. The bread was truly delicious. We also like the goat cheese pasta.

There were major snags with the delivery, though. They would bring us something we had already gotten or something we didn't order that must have been headed for the wrong table. We tried our best to be honest about it, but there were times we had forgotten what we had ordered, but we usually got it right. They did end up leaving an extra serving of the squid and the ceviche, even after we told them we had already gotten the first order.

B&O American Brasserie in the Hotel Monaco, Baltimore

We stopped by for happy hour tonight, but ended up having dinner. The Monday special is a mixed grill that is served as a ceramic pig with charcoal that a grill grate is placed over, which allows you to continue to cook your food (tonight it was sausage, shrimp and steak). Super fun, and the boy said it was also tasty. He also enjoyed the pork croquettes app which he said were moist, but maybe could have been a bit spicier.

I had the ricotta gnocchi with squash puree, sage, and anoki mushrooms (I think they were anoki - mushrooms of some sort). So so tasty.

The beverages were creative. Monday's $5 special drink for happy hour was a pear martini type thing. $5 instead of the usual $12.

It was on the expensive-side, but the space is beautiful, the service was great (we had our 17 month old with us...I am not sure I'd bring her again, but mac n' cheese gnocchi app came out quickly and when we asked for bread, it came right away). I am also interested in going back and trying a salad or flat bread.

Towson Hot Bagels in Canton

So good to know! I wonder if it will be mobbed this weekend, or maybe people won't know it is open yet.

Green Cilantro (Fells Point)

I searched for a thread on this, and didn't see one (there very well could be one, because I don't trust the search), but we just got back from a Friday dinner at Green Cilantro in Fells Point - next to Jimmys where the Whistling Oyster used to be. We had a tasty meal - not fabulous, but good. We had the place almost to ourselves, which makes me a bit sad because I the food here is as good as many other bars down in Fells.

Definitely a Mexican/Hispanic theme to their food (burritos, taco basket, etc.). I had the nachos with the chicken on a separate plate for my meat eating companion. An aside, the bartender/server had to ask the owner how to say "chicken on the side" to tell the kitchen staff, so there is a level of authenticity. The chips were homemade and they were covered in cheese and black beans. The promised sour cream, salsa and guacamole were on the side - which I like because then the nachos don't get as soggy. My fellow had a cuban sandwich that he said was tasty. The plantain chips on the side were a bit hard and not very flavorful, which was disappointing.

I had both the white and red sangria, which were on the dry side, so if you like sangria without a lot of the sweetness, this would be the right speed for you.

While it was nice to be able to let our daughter roam around, I do I hope things pick up for them. There are about 4 tables in the back, there is a high chair (where said 15 mo old enjoyed sitting) and then there are high tops in the bar area, in addition to seating at the bar.

Towson Hot Bagels in Canton

I called yesterday and they said they'd be opening the Canton location (first Mariner Tower complex) in a couple of weeks (so mid-Sept?). My question is whether anyone has been to the location in Towson and whether they have good bagels? The bagel pickings are pretty slim down in Fells Point and Canton, so I want to be hopeful, but also don't want to be disappointed.
