New rest. in old Diamond Dairy digs - 47th Street NYC
Their humongous potato pancakes and the parve cholent with potato kugel (served by surly Marie RIP).
New rest. in old Diamond Dairy digs - 47th Street NYC
Noticed a new kosher dairy establishment opened in the old Diamond Dairy spot on W. 47th Street off of 5th in NYC. Any hounds have the scoop?
Cool, to a 13 year old, Manhatten restaurants ????
Berel, you ARE a celebrity......at least on this board :)
Kosher marscapone cheese?
I found the Italian Polenghi brand in the Amish Market in NYC. Glad its OK certified.
miriam mizakura's shalom japan - glatt kosher restaurant from the 80s-22 wooster st
Yes, I think it was Gross' that had the memorable creamed spinach.....
We are certainly dating ourselves here :)
Sheva Brachot in LA
Sima, I wouldn't go that far to say SG is better than most Kosher Chinese establishments in NY, but I agree the food at Shangai Gardens is always fresh and plentiful. I also find the service quick and acceptable and agree with Mamaleh, sometimes its reflective of the customers attitude. I agree it is a most suitable and decent venue choice for a sheva brachot when you are looking for low cost.
(2nd) Date Ideas in Brooklyn (Help needed ASAP!)
!!!MAZEL TOV!!! Now we just have to figure out how to split the shadchunus :)
Takosher Truck Los angeles
Thanks for the review paprkutr. Where did you find the truck? Will it be moving around? Do you know who supervises the Kashrut?

If you are looking for light dairy or desert only, you may want to consider Orchidea in Boro Park (48th St. and 12th Ave.)
May you soon be zoche to have your dinners cooked at home by your lovely wife. (That has to be one of the weirdest brochos but hey you never know :)
New Fruit for Rosh Hashanah
Yep... good 'ol bisalma compote - definitly a Hungarian favorite. Anu always gave the kids the extra syrup juice - delicious but extremly high in calories!
Gazpacho in Manhattan
Milk & Honey @ 22 West 45th Street is offering Gazpacho as one of their soup choices today. Can't vouch if its any good but I find their soups generally acceptable.
will be at the snack and candy expo-what candy/snacks do you want to be kosher?
WOW this topic makes me glad to think I have to wrack my brain a bit to come up with products I'm missing. Goes to show you how many items do have supervision.
NYC Vegetable Garden - New Location Opening Soon
From their website http://www.veggarden.com/
347 LEXINGTON AVENUE (bet 39th & 40th Streets), NYC 10016
I guess this means the availability of pizza in the Grand Central Station vicinity although the pizza at their previous location left much to be desired. On the plus side their prices were pretty reasonable. Hope they got a good deal on rent...
NY Lunchbox
I so wanted to find favor with this new spot since there are few milchig choices in the immediate area. However, I concur with KC and had a very similar experience earlier last week. They did not have many of the advertised items yet so I decided to go for the simple tuna panini. I paid before I received my order and though everyone that ordered after me was served, 10 minutes later I still didn't have my panini. When I asked the server who took my order he said it was still being pressed. The cashier yelled at him saying 10 minutes was way too long. Sure enough, 15 minutes later in my office the lettuce and tomato were still steaming and inedible. They also use dark tuna which I am not a fan of. I too will cut them some slack and give them a little more time to get their act together, but management does seem to lack organization. I think they should have ironed out some of the kinks before they opened.
Magnolia Bakery GCS
I'd love to find out......so the question remains; who makes a better KOSHER cupcake?
Magnolia Bakery GCS
Can any hounds confirm if the new Magnolia bakery open in Grand Central Station (across and down a bit from Mendy's) is certified Kosher? If so, is it under the UKS - Rabbi Yaakov Spivak? TIA.
Shabbos in LA, CA
This hotel (inn) now advertises as kosher (Cholov Yisroel upon request). They are within the eruv and walking distance of shuls (try Atzei Chaim (Halberstam's) at 8108 West 3rd Street). It's no frills accomodations, but clean and heimish.

Mendy's Dairy - Grand Central
I've had some unpleasant experiences, but they were mostly with the quality and freshness of the food. After several bouts of stomach upsets, I vowed not to frequent Mendy's Dairy but unfortuantely they are the only milchig joint in the immediate GCS location.
Lucky Chen Noodle Bowls
I so wanted to like this product but alas after trying several found them to be on the greasy side.
They are now also available at Shoprite in Brooklyn.
Sukkahs in Manhattan?
Cafe K and Wolf & Lamb on 48th Street between 5th / 6th Avenues both have sukkahs on the street in front of the establishments.
Condiment recommendation for Gefilte Fish
I like the prepared dill dips they sell in the kosher markets / take out establishments but as you note they can be pricey. So I make my own my combining the frozen dill cubes (Sabra) with mayo.
Gourmet Tartar Sauce?
It's also favored by 'yekes' (on gefilte fish - not matzah balls)!
ISO anything close to Best's Kosher Deli Franks
Abeles & Heymann's dogs have a great flavor of garlic and are premium IMHO.
Best Tasting Brand of Matzoh
See last year's reviews here:

Seems many concur with the Yehuda brand.
Kosher Prepared Pesto
I also find the Sabra brand decent.
If you can do Milchig (and Cholov Stam), Paesana makes a dairy Pesto Sauce in a glass jar thats pretty good. Its under Chof K supervision.
Seasoned Skewers
Any hound familiar with a kosher version? The only ones I could find with supervision (OU) are dairy and obviously won't work for my meat kebabs.

KOSHER OASIS FOOD CART
Just checked it out but only went pareve awating Craig's report on the credentials of the unkown (at least to me) Rabbi Bitton.
Don't know how long they've been around, but it looks like they haven't gotten their act together yet. Service was slow and the server did not understand my question about pareve. Menu items I noticed are schnitzel on baugette; (3 different versions), shwarma, falafel, french fries, onion rings. Falafel was good although there was no techina. Similar to the now defunct House of Pita.
Prices are average. The guy whom I believe is the owner kept picking up his sweat pants...not an appetizing site but probably should not reflect on the food!
