BHM - Food Truck Round-Up tomorrow
Has anybody tried the shindigs or spoonfed grill trucks? Are they worth an out-of neighborhood trip?
Conecuh Sausage
I mail-order the occasional 5-pound box of sausage from Deramus. They send the bill with a sweet note and trust you to mail them a check afterward. Charming. They are the best sausages I've ever eaten. They keep fine in the freezer. Looking forward to trying Conecuh.

Here's a thread about Auburn

Unfortunately, Cuban Delights has closed, and the excellent chef has left the Yellowhammer. Zazu's, now in dowtown Auburn is decent. I would say Amsterdam's, also in downtown, is now serving the best food in town. But it's packed every night.
Bham "Holes" of Note
Just tried the buffet at this place yesterday. A shockingly pleasant surprise, given that most of their sign consists of the pepsi logo. They had many of the items you mentioned, plus some others: a nice saag panner, a curry with mushrooms, and at least one other. Everything I tried was delicious. It is far and away better than Taj--both in quantity (of different dishes on the buffet) and quality. Great find!
Birmingham - Kool Korner
I'm new to B'ham, and was psyched to read about this place. I had never gotten a cuban with shredded lettuce, so that was a bit of a scare, but it was indeed very tasty. Definitely the pork that makes it happen. Btw, thanks to Big Daddy and Dax for the copious chow info on these boards. Slowly working my way through all of your recs...
avenue sea in apalachicola fl
I ate at Avenue Sea last week, in large part on the basis of this thread. My own experience was a bit more mixed than the others reported here. A few of the dishes were outstanding (cobia sushi, artichoke veloute, agnolotti with beat sauce), but others were merely very good, and some were downright bad (a flavorless shrimp second course, an inedible side of brussel sprouts). Also, our server was just terrible. We complained about the service, and the chef was good enough to call us later to apologize, for which he definitely gets props.
Auburn Alabama
I've lived in Auburn for seven years now. My two cents: None of the barbecue places are very good. Sad, but true. If I had to pick one, I'd go with Papa Joe's in Opelika. There are some good places to eat. On the cheaper side of things, I'd go with (a) Creole and Seafood Shack, (b) Cuban Delights Cafe, or (c) La Tapatia (mexican grocery, kitchen in back). These are all terrific. There are also more expensive places that are surprisingly good: The Yellowhammer (in Waverly) is great. A new place (with a horrible name), Zazu Eclectic Eatery, seems promising (based on one visit).
