Help! I left the food on the counter overnight!
I threw everything out this morning (sigh). Thanks for all your advice.
Help! I left the food on the counter overnight!
They were put seperately in tupperware with the lids on. Im thinking of taking a chance on the meat (after heating slices at high heat) and throwing out the potatoes but am also considering al's advice to throw out everything.
Help! I left the food on the counter overnight!
Do I have to throw it out? It is roast beef, cooked medium (no red), and mashed potatoes. Could I salvage them by cooking at high temperature?
potato peels to clean cookware??
My new De Buyer pan instructions say to boil potato skin s to help clean the pan before seasoning. Does this work? How many potato peels should be used?
Who has best oyster sandwich in Sarasota/LBK?
Duval on Main St has an oyster po boy for lunch. I have not tried it but they do all fish and seafood very well.
Mozaic in Sarasota
Im thinking of taking my daughter here for her birthday. Good idea? What dishes are good? Anything bad? Tx.
Is there any decent place in Breckenridge for lunch?
Thanks Claire and Cookin,
We wound up at Gianpietro's , an Italian place off Main. The pizza was not bad, probably better than most in Breck, and my husband's clams in white sauce was delicious. The italian roast beef sandwich (daily special) also looked great. We tried to return a other night for dinnner, but there was an hr's wait. (They dont take res.) even as other restos were empty.
Thanks for the rec of FoodHez. We will check it out next time. Just got home last night after a harrowing drive down the mtn on I-70 through a blizzard close to the tunnel. Many fishtailing and spinouts and trucks stopped right on the highway. Thank God we know how to drive in mtn s ow! Apparantly alot of others dont. They must be from Denver.
Is there any decent place in Breckenridge for lunch?
We want to take someone out to lunch, but cant think of a place that offers more than the ubiquitous burger. In the past, we have gone to Blue River Bistro but it has gone downhill in the past years. All the other places we find acceptable are only open for dinner.
We are open to any cuisine, prefer something on the lighter side. Tx.
Day at RINGLING Museum...dinner NEARBY after ?
Captain Brians is just up the road. Great variety of ultra-fresh fish and lobster, excellent sauteed spinach, average salad bar and decor.
Sarasota: Best Seafood - Shrimp and Fish
Although I agree that Captain Brian 's fish is absolutely fresh and top-notch, I find the place a bit depressing with its aging decor and insipid salad bar. It would be so much better if it were updated a little. That being said, service is professional and fairly speedy. Instead of the mediocre potato side choices, try the sauteed spinach which is absolutely delicious
Reconstituting Dried Figs
That recipe sounds delicious and one I will certainly try in the future, but the flavor I am going for is one just of fresh figs since there will be other ingredients with competing flavors. In fact, I would like them to taste less sugary but am wondering if water would make them taste just too bland.
Reconstituting Dried Figs
I have a rec ipe that calls for fresh figs but all I can find are dried mission figs. Can I make them taste more like fresh figs somehow, for example, plumping them a little liquid? If so, what liquid should be used - water, brandy, sherry? Has anyone tried to do this? Tx.
Gougere Secrets
Thanks for the thread. I did a search but nothing came up. Im glad they can be reheated. Its a big time saver.
I am thinking of making mini eclairs out of this dough and filling them last minute with cheesy bechamel or maybe a bit of alfredo sauce.
Gougere Secrets
I would like to make some gougeres for a cocktail party, but have some questions..
Can I make the gougeres and freeze them unbaked without hurting the final result? If so, how long shoukd they be baked?
Can I freeze them baked and then reheat before serving? Should I let them defrost before reheating?
Has anyone tried to stuff gougeres with bechamel? If so, how did you do it?
Thanks in advance for any enlightenment.
Bagna Cauda or Aioli?
Noticing that my proposed apps for a holiday party are all protein, I want to make some vegetable option. So I was thinking of making bagna cauda or aioli for vegetable dipping. Which do you think would be better? Some people dont like anchovies and some people dont like strong garlic but most like garlic and some may not know that there are anchovies in the bagna cauda....What are your experiences? Tx.
Sarasota Decisions, please help???
Just had dinner at the new Duvals on Main Street. E erything was great. We split the calamari app and it was very tender and just lightly breaded. It came with three sauces, a chipolte mayo, regular cocktail and a Dijon mustard sauce. I preferred the chipolte, then the Dijon. Next time I will ask for just the chipolte. My husband had the hake special and I had salmon.. Both were very fresh and excellent. We also had small salads instead of the veg and they were better than average - a nice combo of ingredients, not too much dressing. For side, I had the risotto and my husband had the red potato mashed. The risotto was good, but not as good as Selva's. The potatoes were tasty. We shared a bread pudding for desert - heavenly! Service was excellent and the place was busy. In all, a very good meal.
BTW, the old Duvals is now closed. Cece said she just couldn 't handle the two locations.

Sarasota...Disappointing new Italian Bistro Figliulo
Duvals in downtown Sarasota is now open. It is on Main across from the Kress building. I happened to be going by and saw the chef and another guy (owner?).outside. I asked when they were open and they said they are open now, both for lunch and for dinner. They are going through a "soft" opening. I plan on going this week-end.
Where to go for dinner in downtown Sarasota
I'm having some out of town guests coming in a f ew weeks and would like to take them to dinner in downtown Sarasota where we can sit outside and watch the local scene as we eat. It doesnt need to be on the water... What do you suggest? Thanks.
Is There Such A Thing As GOOD Beef Jerky?
My french brother-in-law loves beef jerky and wants us to bring him some when we visit him next week. I can't stand the stuff so I woukd have great difficulty choosing one brand over another. Can someone please help me? It would have to be something generally available as I don't have time for mai, order etc. Thanks.
When Mushrooms Go Bad
OK, we all been there, with that box of mushrooms in the frig too long. So if they are brown and slimy, don't use them. If they are white and firm, no problem. But there is that in-between stage....How do you decide when they are too bad?
scratches on induction cooktop
I am getting a new induction cook top and was wondering if it will be prone to scratching or any maintenance problems. Thank you.
Sarasota - Vernona or Cafe L'Europe?
Does anyone know about an "early bird special" at Verona? I read something about it but dont remember where.
recs for a quiet dinner with an old friend in sarasota
Thanks. mof4. We went to Derek's last Saturday and had the special menu. It was good, but the place was HOT.
I have never been to LAN. I read good reviews, but nobody I know seems to go there. I wonder why? Maybe I will try it.
recs for a quiet dinner with an old friend in sarasota
Ciao, hounds:
An old friend is visiting us from New York this Friday and we want to take him out to dinner someplace in or near downtown Sarasota. We need something with decent food but also quiet. What would you recommend? I'm thinking Michael's or Flemings but would like others to consider -Roy's. Selva Grille?
Any ideas welcome!
