Where to get white charcoal (binchotan) in Alberta?

Just some other thoughts.

Lethbridge has a higher (the highest?) concentration of Japanese people in Alberta. Perhaps a retailer there would carry it.

Post a query on the BC forum - same logic - more Asian markets.

Where to get white charcoal (binchotan) in Alberta?

I asked the chef at my sushi place and he said he had never seen it for sale in Calgary and he has been here for about 20 years.
He did mention that there was a yakitori restaurant in Vancouver that used it http://www.zakkushi.com/ and that they imported from Japan. Maybe if you contacted them they could hook you up with a source.

S/B Flipp'n Burgers

Sorry about getting the name (slightly) wrong - I will blame it on tax time.
If a moderator can correct it, it would be appreciated.

Just repeating what I was told while in line - no solid evidence either way.

I took it to mean Alberta beef.

Flipp'n Burgers - Calgary (Kensington)

Flippin' Burgers is at 330 10th Street NW in the location formerly occupied by Crepe Avenue (between the dollar store and the head shop).
They have been open for about a week or less.
It is a narrow space - about 15 seats - two booths (of 2) on one side; three tables on a long bench on the other and three seats at the front window. The orange/red walls are covered with old photographs - going for a diner vibe. Seems to be a family-run operation - owner on the burger plating/finishing station; spouse/partner greeting; son(?) of the owner on the cash register and someone else on the grill.
Menu is basically burgers, fries and shakes.
Burgers is local grain-fed beef - 6 oz patties (there is a veggie burger option).
Home-cut fries; yam fries available and frozen onion rings.

I ordered a bacon cheese burger with a small fry.
Lots of topping options - put on onions, lettuce, mayo and ketchup - just basic toppings for me.
Nice juicy burger - bun was soft without falling apart, cheddar cheese.
Small fries are pretty big (size of a pint carton) maybe a little underdone and the BBQ seasoning was not to my taste - I will get them to leave it off next time..
$13 - $8 cheese burger, $2 bacon add-on, $2.25 small fries.

Right now I would rate it as 3.5 out of 5. I liked the burger and it is early days still so I would give it another shot sometime.

Steak for dinner YYC

With regards to parking:
You are allowed to park on Stephen Avenue (8th Ave) after 6PM (assuming they get the little gates open on time)
You can pay to park under the Telus Convention Centre which is 1 block away from Saltlik.

No one has mentioned The Cattle Baron (2 locations - 32nd & Barlow and Sundance(?)) - similar in style to Keg and Smugglers.

And the Reef 'N Beef - 36 St & 20 Ave NE.
Yes the décor is dated but the food is good and the prices are reasonable

which Calgary restaurants allow patrons to bring wine?

Not necessarily what is acceptable - it's what the restaurant would like to charge.
Plus the restaurant would rather you drink from their cellar than yours.

And given that the usual markup on a bottle of wine is 3X the retail cost, you could easily justify bringing a nice $25+ wine.
