Observations on Mama's and Gerrard's on Maui

I wanna hang out with you.

Any new restaurants on Sanibel or Captiva?

Just got back. Trader's meal was fanatastic. My wiofe and her mom both raved about the lobster-blue crab dish that apparently is always on the menu. Don't miss Traders.

Went to Cips for lunch and it's a very nice spot, had a deliciouls Groiuper BLT for lunch (just the sound of it makes your mouth water, huh?), but the service was kinda off. Still, I'd recommend.

Grandma Dot's is consistant, and Doc Ford's is very solid choice too. After trying about 10 at various places on the island, we decided they clearly make the best and most potent Mojito's.

Plenty of good happy hour opportunities all across the island if you are so interested.

Trastevere-hollywood

Thanks for the responses. I think I overstressed the parking, I just thought it best to park once and eat and then go to watch the show. It seem slike the view and the locale are very nice, but if Trastevere is really sub-standard food and service wise, i am open to go somewhere else........has anyone had a bad/good experience there?

Visiting Laguna Beach for a week - need recommendations

I have been there 5-6 times and the service has never been anything but stellar. Also, the food has been great.....agree with Bubbly on the veggie burger. I actually craved their VB and made the trip from Ciosta Mesa specifically for it.

Trastevere-hollywood

We'll be taking my mom to a sunday matinee of IRIS for her 90th birthday and this place seems to be the most logiocal for a bite to eat before the show. Seems like we can park....dine...and then hit the show without getting back and forth in the car. Clearly an advantage when your mom is hittin' 90. However, it doesn't seem to be that highly reviewed of an establishment. Should I reconsdier?

Places to eat in Dana Point?

I like the Harbor Grill at the harbor (duh!) in DP. I think their entrees are very good, nice light ambiance and always good service.

PAGEANT OF THE MASTERS! (Laguna Beach) Early dinner suggestions?

Nick's is a great choice. Affordable, great service, and withing walking distance of the Pageant.

Coney Dog

Born and raised in Dee-Troit city. I remember once when a cousin and I skipped out after a Passover seder to go to Lafayette Coney Island and have a couple coneys (I'm a very bad Jew). Live in Orange county and been wanting to try this place, but I despise Mike Binder.

I'm torn what to do

Newcastle Summer Ale

Don't remember ever seeing it before.....but Ralph's was having an 8 hour sale on it for $9.99 a 12-pack so I had to pick one up. At work now, a full report later...but has anybody tried it?

Best Sandwhich in Orange County?

Big Belly Deli. One on PCH in Newport and they just opened one on the west side of Costa Mesa on 19th Street.

Anything new in Cambria dining?

Making our once a year trip up there in a few weeks. have reservations at Robin's one night and looking for another suggestion or two. I know Black Cat Bistro is well-loved here, but I found it just allright. I have also heard that Sow's Ear has declined recently, any truth to that?

Gotta stop at Linn's for some Ollalalberry Pie!

TIA.

Best Pizza near the Palmer House?

I am not real familiar with your great city, but my wife is gonna be there for a couple days and I want her to experience real Chicago pie. Is there a great pizzeria within walking distance of that hotel?

TIA.

Anything new and interesting in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa?

I think you should consider the Alessa in HB. It's just a little farther up the road and considerably larger and not as jammed.

looking for chili cook-off

There is one in Big Bear in July. It's a blast.

Hot Cross Buns in OC

I've picked them up at French's on 17th Street in CM before. I'm not sure whether they have them already, and sometimes, they run out early in the day.

Best Happy Hour in Orange County

I wanna see this thread survive, and since the best thing about the economy tanking is that there are clearly more Happy Hour opportunities, I thought I'd revive it.

The A restaurant has 1/2 off all drinks, beer, and glasses of wine from 3-7 weekdays. Also, their appatizer menu is 1/2 off and includes their scrumptuous A burger (I substitute greyere for the bleu cheese myself).

Flemings has a 5 for 6 till 7 menu where five different cocktails, glasses of wine, and appetizers are $6 until 7:00. I believe this is every day too!

Other OC HH deals?

Hillcrest Valentines reccomendations?

So were you at the new location? Is that a romantic setting?

Hillcrest Valentines reccomendations?

Thanks everybody.

I'm confused about sdnativa's reply. When I go to their website, Cafe Bleu says they are on W. Washington, but you say you were there last night and list a University Ave. address.

Hillcrest Valentines reccomendations?

I am an OC hound and not familiar with this area of SD, but we are staying in a B & B for Valentines weekend and I could use help in choosing a couple restaurants for Saturday and Sunday (Valentines) nights. Moderately expensive, all cuisines. Thanks for the help!

Nesai in Newport?

Anyone been?

Pasta Connection back in Costa Mesa

Longtime Costa Mesa tradition Pasta Connection is back. Just about a block from it's original location, they're now on Harbor Blvd. Look for the sign of the crying kid with the plate of spaghetti on his head out front. Hopefully, nothing has changed food-wise.

Heading to Kauai in a couple weeks... any recommendations???

Postcards was very good when i was there (sigh!) two years ago. I enjoyed the Dolphin as well...both are in Hanalei.

3 nights in Newport Beach

I haven't searched, but I gotta believe this must be the first time Dick Church was ever brought up on Chowhound.

Where should I order my turkey for Thanksgiving?

Last year was my first TJ's turkey and everybody commented it was the best ever. juicy, moist, and elicious. $1.79 pound.

Cantonese (and if possible great egg rolls) in Irvine/Costa Mesa/Newport?

May Garden isn't too bad and they have a couple nice rooms. Right off the 55 and the 405 on Bristol in CM.

Quick lunch near Bolsa Chica S.B.?

There's a Taco Surf right on PCH at the water tower. They're usually solid.

Margaritas for 20

I pride myself on my margs when I'm making 'em for my wife and I. I use tequilla (duh!), Contrieu, fresh lime juice, and some Bone Daddy's sweet & sour. But I got a bar-b-que coming up and don't have the inclination to squeeze all those limes, plus I want to have them already made and sitting in a punch bowl while I cook. Is there a recipe that would work for a larger group? Maybe substituting frozen limeade for the fresh juice? TIA.
