I really like the La Salsa Shrimp burrito, but every time I get one I wonder if I can get a shimp burrito that would be better in a non-chain place. Or is just a item made for american taste?

We were in a BBQ mood at lunch time in Bakersfieldand I could not remember Fred's.....I remembered that it was a common name, so we went to Famous Dave's BBQ. The ribs were very good, the brisket, not so much. We liked all of the BBQ sauces! My son's almost $9 cheesebuger should have been better for the price, but it was OK.
The drive up the grapevine after lunch was not fun--construction until Nov. 2012 will slow things down.

Just had a Norm's salad last night. I agree, not the nicest place to eat, but the food was surprising good and service VERY friendly.

Correct, the deal is (was) 4-12 packs for $10 (but was limited to 4 and only 4- 12 packs (or 2 cases) per person).
So to get 7 cases for the event, I have to buy 8 cases or 16-12 packs, and I have to go through the line 4 times (at least at the S&M on Olimpic. So I kept 1 case (2-12 packs) (24 cans) for myself!
Now how fast was that train from New York going again?

The only trouble with the Smart & Final purchase was there was also a limit of 2 cases per person. I went with my wife and we got in differnt lines (twice).

In n Out in Westwood good enough? 99 out of a 100 times I'd go to In n Out instead of Apple Pan (and after that one in a 100 I'd wonder what in the world was I thinking to pay more for something not as good)

I went west along foothill blvd. saw a mexican (across the street from Goodyear tire) place with a few folks outside leaving and gave it a try. We got a 2-2 item combos and a kids chicken taco. It was fine (nothing really great, but all edible exactly!)

JPL Open house this weekend-driving from the Westside. I heard the Open house is GREAT for kids.
Any good places within walking distance or a very short drive? It would be nice to walk instead for having to drive.for lunch.

I may be way off base, but I thought adding MSG to food is sort of outdated and very few, if any, places (even Chinese) do this anymore.

Persian Ice Cream is walking distance from my place. It is our to go place for ice cream. Last time we went I had a fig-cranberry that was outstanding. They are always asking you to try the cucumber (and to tell the truth, it sounded funny to me, but after I tried it, I loved it)

I just saw this old-renewed post. I posted the dinner request for Broadway/10th.
My office is very close to the IB's on Franklin. Been there for lunch a few times-the hot Italian Combo is very good. The fries are great too!
Dinner in Oakland Broadway/10th
My new job requires me to be in Oakland (Marriott @ Broadway/10th) during the weekdays. I joined a few guys and now we're a group of four who walk to local places for dinner.
Our normal place is Pacific Coast Brewing Company. It isn't bad at all, the special of the day is normally good, esp. the $15 Pime rib dinner, with some great mashed potatoes. Another favorite is the meatloaf. One of our crew will not eat anything spicy.
We've been to B's and the food was liked. A little more expensive and it was hard to talk at the table, a lot of echos there.
Our "treat" was to make a longer walk to Jack London Square and eat at Scott's.
We do like to get in and out quickly and while I'm open to spicy and any type of food and 3 other are real meat and potatoe guys.
The plan is to be living out of the hotel for a few months. So please, any and all advice, for the four of us to walk or a quick ride Bart and a short walk from a station. No car.
Maybe a few places when it is just me-longer rides/walks OK.
