Sptizer's, I have money! Will trade you for food! PLEASE!!!

I've had the same thing happen to me there. I laughed at them, and left. Its not as if I can't get better food without the attitude right across the street at 'inoteca. I can't exactly say that I miss Spitzer's... Having to have your hand stamped by a bouncer like a frat-boy isn't exactly my idea of a pleasant dinner experience. Avoid it.

Momofuku Ko - while pregnant + food allergy?

I have asked the Ko people this very questions regarding my pregnant wife. They said they were willing and able to accommodate pregnancy-related eating restrictions (raw fish/eggs mostly as I understand it). The dairy allergy probably falls under the same blanket. I have no doubt they would modify the menu for you, but do call in advance to let them know so that they will be prepared!

Suggestions for a "cozy" restaurant for party of 14

Off the top of my head, 'inoteca, Bobo, and Spotted Pig all have reasonably sized private rooms. There is also a private room in the basement of Market Table that might work for you. Finally, maybe take a look at Barbuto. Not sure they have a space for 14, but worth looking at...

Mermaid Inn - East Village

The going assumption was that the whole post was an opinion - including an opinion as to the correctness of other posts. In any event, I am pretty sure Mermaid has changed chefs since either of those commenters has been, so they are effectively reviewing a different restaurant. Nonetheless, I have softened my position a little bit to accommodate your admonition...

Mermaid Inn - East Village

Completely disagree... The food at Mermaid Inn has been reliably consistent ever since it opened. Any of the fish dishes good, and the pork chop, if you can get your head around ordering a pork chop there, is excellent. One thing to avoid - I was there recently and had the Spaghetti with Salad on top (I think this is an import from the UWS location) - it was not great, and I wouldn't get it again. The Sunday special pasta is consistently excellent though. I think Mermaid Inn is one of the best places in the East Village for a casual, relaxed, non-bank-breaking meal.

Glow-in-the-Dark Gin and Tonic Jelly

Indian Tonic is the British term for what is just Tonic water in the US.

Glow-in-the-Dark Gin and Tonic Jelly

~5 gelatin leaves is about the same as a 10g packet of gelatin. In Europe (and Canada maybe?), gelatin is more commonly sold in leaves than powdered. Leaves are also available in the US from specialty food stores and those that supply restaurants.

Off-Menu at Le Cirque?

Does anyone know if they offer the Pasta Primavera at Le Cirque during lunch service? Also, is there any secret to not getting a strange look from the waiter when you order it?
