Bludso's Texas Sampler - will it hold?

Yes, go to Bludso's when you are recharged and ready on Saturday. Get to your hotel and then stop by Baby Blue's for smoked chicken wings and barbecue. It's close to your hotel in West Hollywood.

FOODIE ON A DIET :( ... Need Healthy Restaurants

Well don't go to a chain restaurant.
http://www.rand.org/blog/2012/05/whats-on-the-menu-a-status-quo-that-needs-to-change.html This article says that 96% of Main entrees fail to meet basic nutrition guidelines.

Westside- Westchester, El Segundo, Venice- Burger Craving

Third Hinano. Everyone in there is having a burger and a beer. It's perfect.

Bacalao where to find in the San Fernando Valley?

I'm pretty sure Natas on Ventura in Sherman Oaks has it in their little shop.

benihana replacement

Just walk around near Benihana and do restaurant row plus Red Medicine: All those restaurants are at least as good as Benihana except Stinking Rose where you can sit in the Dracula room, etc.....so that makes up for the food. If that's your area there is quite a bit around there. venture to 3rd Street and golden triangle of Beverly Hills too. Lots of restaurants... Hence the name "restaurant row"

Bistro Provence

I was there on a rainy Friday the 13th and I thought the food was great. If you order a main the app is only $3.95! We had cob salad, and fresh peas w/ grilled veggies to start. Both very good. My friend had the beef Bourguinon and I the salmon in lobster sauce over shrimp mashed potatoes. The beef and the Cobb were a little deconstructed but the flavors were good. The shrimp potatoes with lobster sauce was divine. Fish good. I would eat it all again. I recommend!

Surprise Birthday Party Venue - The Valley or LA

I'm thinking Corbin Bowl in Tarzana but also possibly Pinz also on Ventura Blvd. Or possible Q's Billiard club on Wilshire in West LA. I have been to parties similar to what you describe at all of these places.

SoCal Indigenous Ingredients

Sunchokes can be foraged and eaten. Maybe some fungus too for sauce.

La Paella Restaurant - the real deal

There's no special lunch menu which makes it difficult for me to eat alone at lunch. I just need a nice balanced plate. Cute place though. Please add a blue plate special and I'll eat lunch there m-f. There is a dearth of luncheon spots by Wilshire/San Vicente.

Best resturant to eat corned beef and cabbage for lunch Saturday?

I was also thinking the Valley......Ireland's 32 food is quite good and the chef always sits down beside you when you order! If it gets busy the kitchen is slow but the food is good. But now that you mention it, you might find me at the Safari Room.

And if you're at Ireland may as well check out the orange over at Robin Hood, just catty corner .

Restuarant on Ventura - I need help!!!!

Same with me re: JInkys. I think this thread is hilarious. I guess your brother should retrace his steps and enlightens all. Perspective is so important! Who knows?

ISO Lemon Layer Cake

I think Lemonade's cake is pretty good. By the slice or by the sheet...light and lemony.

Where to take a "Pizza Virgin" to pop their cherry?

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I get the spinach crust, which is eerily green, but so good! Yeah it's a scene and has been for decades. The delivery guys...a way of life.

Any memories of "poor people food" from your childhood that you still crave?

We were never allowed to buy the processed cereals they advertised on tv but we did eat plain graham crackers crumbled in a bowl with a little sugar sprinkled on, and milk. You have to eat right away as they get soggy fast! Delicious though.

Dine LA Jan/Feb 2012 Reviews

I went to Sir Winston's on the Queen Mary....a place I would normally never go but a Monday night business dinner combined with family made it a go. First, I love the boat and the nighttime access and views of downtown Long Beach were sublime. I fel like I'm on the Titanic! The restaurant ison a high deck and on the bow. The bar back by the bathrooms looks like a cool spot and there is a lot of Winston Churchill memorabilia.

Everyone there seemed to be there for Dine LA except one japanese 4 top. After dinner everyone went out front and took photos and wandered around the ship. I had the smoked salmon appitizer which was good but plated strangely and could have used a couple more toasts for my taste. I thought it was good. My friends had a tomato & fresh cheese salad of which there were too many little cheese balls. Again an extra few bread crisps would have helped. We all had beef Wellington...my first. I thought it was excellent. I couldn't really taste the trufles though. They would have been better in the gravy. The pastry was crisp and flaky and the mashed potatoes and asparagus was also good. Dessert was a pumpkin crime brûlée. If you love Art Deco. And traditional meals .....take advantage of this Los Angeles relic. The ship is also incredibly photogenic. Validated parking is $5/ 3 hours . I parked right in front on a Monday night and the whole place was empty.

Dine LA Jan/Feb 2012 Reviews

I had lunch at Scarpetta and it was busy, delightful on the patio and the food divine. I had a San Remo cocktail with Campari and bourbon to start. It is now my new favorite drink. We shared the creamy polenta with mushrooms and the beef short ribs with quinoa. Both sublime. Beet pasta type raviolies with cheese and pistachio & poppy seed. Amazing! Also the salmon and more grains but good. The coconut pannacotta was my favorite but the budding was also good and more rich. Excellent experience and I hope to return. Recommended.

Where's the good posole? And when?

I just had the Posole at the lunch buffet at Margarita Jones in Pasadena. Rich red broth and huge falling apart chunks of pork. Served over shredded cabbage with fresh onions and cilantro and freshly hand made tortillas. It was enough for the 8.99. Also good were beef shanks, asada and mango jicama salad. great value!

TEA HOUNDS! Why are we not talking about Dr. Tea's Tea Garden & Herbal Emporium on Pico/La Brea??

No you are thinking of Ron Teeguarden who I think relocated to Robertson but is also at dragonherbs.com ....these are medicinal teas. Not sure if his name is coincidental or not. I think LA used to be so much more interesting than it is now. That was a scene there!

The Obama caravan at Roscoe's for a little snack...

I also had the fried chicken livers and highly recommend. Shared w 3 others the plate was piled high and delicious!

Best Happy Hour in Santa Monica

I have been to the Sonoma Wine Garden where I ended up on a Thursday evening. The frites and wine were a good deal.

Good places for ice cream, desserts, acai bowls, near Scottsdale?

I always go to Sugar Bowl for ice cream when in Scottsdale. It is the place for ice cream there and has been for decades. Also good sorbets.

Best pho in Los Angeles proper

I agree with the overcooked noodles but I have only had them overcooked on the weekends.....not sure why but I guess when it is crazy busy. I have been meaning to try those Che ba Mau and now I will have to do my own taste test. Thanks!

Best pho in Los Angeles proper

I 2nd Pho So 1 even though there is a Pho 999 across the street, I prefer Pho So !. In Van Nuys and worth the drive plus you can shop at the 99 Ranch next door for fixins to bring home.

Thanks for the link. I also like Vincents on Camelback and the Stockyards.

Arizona restaurant week

I would consider BLT Steak, A Different Point of View and anything at the Biltmore but I would like to see the menu options before I reserve. I clicked on the link through opentable but only see the regular meny for the restaurant. Please give me the menus link. Thanks in advance.

Headed from Disney land to phx via road any must stops?

Oh and until THEY ALL close next year, there is still an A&W at Cabazon. Great root beer and stewed chicken sandwiches. Revisit now for old times sake!

Also I like to stop at Hadly's near the Morongo casino for date shakes and fresh orange juice or date/banana shakes.. all so good. I heard date shakes are a natural analgesic!

Headed from Disney land to phx via road any must stops?

My bad, I was wrong...I stop at Chiriaco Summit where the George Patton museum is. The place is called the Chiriaco Summit cafe and it sells old style cafe food and has a self serve coffe pot up front with a stack of styrofoam cups....serve yourself to go. Same general location ...east of Coachella.

The yacht club is funny and very local but it is set on a wash that flows if it does rain. Also divey but fun and good and very entertaining with the locals who are a strange crew. The town swells with snowbird campers in the cool months and clears out in the heat. The t-shirts are pretty cool and I have had many throughout the years.

Check them both out and enjoy the drive.
