Chowdown Report: Lao New Year Festival @ Wat Lao Saysettha (Santa Rosa)
What a great experience! If anyone wants a little vacation in Laos I highly recommend this New Year Festival. It was a little disconcerting at first because the proceedings were conducted in the Lao language and most the conversations around me were in Lao also. Fortunately many people came up to me to make me feel welcome and told me about the temple and the celebration. By the time I left (with a full happy belly) I felt very much at home.
Melanie did a great job at describing the food. If you like Thai and Vietnamese food you'll like Lao food. Blood is pretty tasteless (this was the first time I'd had it) and one of the most fun parts of the day was the reaction when I went back and demanded blood in my soup!
Thanks Melanie for organizing this and guiding me through the unfamiliar cuisine.

Change in "New" flag behavior
The "new" label does work differently than it did a few weeks ago. I 've always used Firefox and the back button. A workaround it to refresh the screen.

When I go to my profile I want to see, in order :
1) Saved topics
2) Saved recipes
3) My activity
Those should be primary tabs. Having to click on other tabs to get the information I use the most is a waste of my time.
NO! I don't want to participate in the CHOW survey!
There should be an option to say I don't want to reply to this survey EVER as opposed to "not now"
Edited to add: I'm much more likely to respond to a survey that gives me the opt out option than one that threatens to come up again later.

My Baskin Robbins addiction was the Mandarin Chocolate Sherbet. That was so gooood! I can't imagine why they discontinued it.

We had a wonderful lunch at the The Cheese Factory Restaurant. It's vegetarian but you won't miss the meat. I'll bet breakfast is great too!

Lobster, sweetbreads and mushrooms in a brandy cream sauce. The restaurant has been closed for decades, but it was always my birthday dinner!
