Freebirds World Burrito or El Tepeyac
You tell em' champ! beans are for the weak and meager
Bar Pinxto very short review of DineLA dinner there tonight
I had nothing but good things to say about this place...up until about two weeks ago, we walked in, sat at the bar as usual and proceeded to get totaly ignored..the worst part is that thatevening was the slowest we've seen that place, the couple sitting next to us seemed to be in the same situation as us. Needless to say, we walked out and and ended up at waterloo and city, great wild mushroom pizza drizzled with truffle oil..they also have a nice small selection of micro brews
Blood Sausage in LA?
Angeli trattoria on Beverly Blvd. about two blocks west of La Brea, this is a hearty italian version..very delicious, service is great as well but call ahead, they get busy
How does everyone feel about Tommy's?
the last time i had tommy's i wished i had a time machine so that i could go back 30 minutes and so i would not have had it at all
the good thing is that in the future, i will never have it again
Breakfast Burrito at 4:00AM on a Sunday?
never had one from this place, but lucy's on pico and union is open all day and all night long
taking customers to a steak restaurant - Mastros? Ruth Chris? Houstons?
we where at the pasadena restaurant, when the waiter arrived at our table with the food he placed the steak on the melted butter, then he did the side dish thing while the sizzling went on, then he served the steak....
everything was good, but we had high expectations for the steak and it was just ok, definitely not worth the price we paid, delicious butter and all.
Looking for Oysters in LA area
ocean ave. did not disappoint, and they have a small yet nice selection of micro-brews to compliment what ever kind of shell fish your order....beer and oysters, heaven on earth
Pioneer Chicken Sunset near Fountain
there's one on florence ave. east of the 710, i think it's bell gardens
taking customers to a steak restaurant - Mastros? Ruth Chris? Houstons?
ruth's chris has great service, but their beef fell short of what was expected, even with that butter fry thing they do at the table just before serving it
Brooklyn Hound in LA for 2 weeks
or you can focus on going to places that you don't have too much of on the east coast
....mexican, and although burgers are u.s. native, the l.a. county area has a bunch of places where you can get a bad ass burger & fry
search either one on chow, you'll wish you had an entire month stay on the west coast
Pig head
try a grocery market that caters to the latino community, like liborio's or even the grand central market...or, a neighborhood carniceria in the east los angeles area, only thing will be if the pig was farm raised or factory
Olvera Street/China Town/Downtown recommendations
a lesson in good food AND geography, thank you Mr. Taster
p.s. i still haven't had a good experience at a PE.... i think you're being generous with that 1 you gave it, silverware or not
fast, *healthy*, cheap takeout in hollywood????
california chicken cafe, always fresh and made to order quick
Has anyone found Coconut M&Ms?
we got some at walgreen's a few months back......m&ms with a faint almost not there coconut flavor and essence, they were alright.
i got all excited for not a whole lot
Shen Jian Bao aka pan fried buns
we had em' at JTYH in san gabriel this past weekend, j. gold had a good review on this place and he was not wrong, they were hot! both literally and figuratively
9425 valley blvd.
Baby Blues BBQ in Venice?
yeah, they have good q, my only thing is that their sauces are a bit on the thin side
Jonathan Gold at Zocalo event
the zocalo yesterday was pretty cool. nancy's, jimmy's, roy's and jazz' stories of how their place of business came about where very nice to hear. jonathan was a hit too
the only down fall of the evening was when the audience had an opportunity to ask the stand questions, that part was extremely painful
What makes Tito's so good
that's not what i said at all
if you're going to refer to tito's as a quadrant, then not only have you misinterpreted what i said, you have grossly twisted it, there are good places and bad places to eat on the east side just like the west side, for me, tito's is a bad one on the west side
it doesn't matter who it is that is producing the plates in the kitchen, what matters here is the end result
Best torta in East L.A. area
it's true, cook's has good tortas, although not traditional, just as delicious
yuca's on hollywood has good ones too
ya ya's, it was not all that, i even tried them a second time and they just were not all that
i used to like super tortas years ago, but the last time i was there i was not impressed one bit
What makes Tito's so good
yes, but no
there are a ton of places from the west side being talked about on chow, and the attitude you are referring to comes up with places on the east side as well
it's a matter of opinion, some of us are very passionate about certain foods, and when we have something that is not up to par or even close, we are going to say it, as an opinion, not necessarily fact, obviously
What makes Tito's so good
i guess this is proof that everyone has different tastes in food
i've only been to tito's once, and i am glad to say that i'm keeping it that way, even my friend who doesn't discriminate much when it comes to food was not happy with what was given to us i exchange for our money
it just wasn't impressive, my old high school served better tasting hard shell tacos
K-Town Salvidorian Food?
just don't forget, salvadorean's diet do not consist of pupusas alone, when made right, yucca frita con chicharron (fried yucca root with fried pork) is good comfort food, platano frito con frijoles y crema (fried plantain with beans and cream) is also good good eating, if you like brothy soups, sopa de pata (pork feet soup) or sopa de res (beef soup) also will fill you something good, and don't forget a pan con pavo (basically a turkey torta) dressed with cabbage slaw, radish and water crest...sweet mother bless El Salvador for their food
ISO Orange Chicken NOT Panda Express
yes, yes and yes, but their orange chicken is very nice, and their aromatic shrimp should be illegal and or banned, cause' it's that good
Food around USC
pasta roma on figueroa, it's fast italian....sort of, they have daily specials, you will be surprised at how good this place is. also, try mr. sippies on 11th. st. just west of the harbor fwy. broasted chicken and potatoes, two pieces of chicken and a heap of potatoes for like three bucks, it's an arco gas station with a kitchen, the enormous bbq beef ribs are good too, you will not be disappointed
