South China Restaurant on Mt. Pleasant Ave. in Toronto. Have you tried their take-out?

Congee Star at Don Mills and Eglinton. They deliver for free up to Bayview and charges $2 up to Yonge (I think).

Spaghetti alle vongole

Anyone know where I can find a restaurant in the GTA that serves a good Spaghetti alle vongole? Much thanks.

Longo's take-home food

Just want to add that they do a roast chicken special every Wednesday evening (4 - 8pm) for $6.99. Love it.

Oh.... and tonight is Wednesday. Nice.

Where to buy Porterhouse steaks in Toronto

We get ours from White House Meat on Bayview (and Millwood). Midtown I guess.

Party Sandwiches

We got some cutesy ones from Pickel Barrel for a baby shower once. It's cheaper if you order the boxes and platter them yourself, or you can order the platters. I think Whole Foods also does crustless tea sandwiches.

Jump

Happy Anniversary! 28 years - wow... you must let me in on your secret. I always recommend the Mushroom Soup at Jump. I believe it's a consumme (no cream) of six different types of mushrooms. And it's delicious!

Fresh Butternut Squash Ravioli

The pasta place on the main floor of the St Lawrence Market also carries them. Freshly made daily too.

Anyone know if there are nice restaurants with "kids night" in Toronto?

Matt Gross, aka the Frugal Traveler of the New York Times (http://travel.nytimes.com/2010/03/14/travel/14frugalSF.html), just put out an article which chronicles his travel experience in San Francisco with his 1 year-old baby. He mentioned going to "Chenery Park Restaurant, a white-tablecloth place where Tuesdays are kids’ nights, meaning Sasha could make noise and drop food on the floor, and no one would notice." And went for "drinks at Vino Rosso, an Italian wine bar recommended by a Mission Parents member for its “Wine & Whiners” Wednesdays, where we knocked back $4 glasses of prosecco while our children played with dishwasher-sterilized plastic toys provided by the bar."

Do we have anything like this in Toronto? And no... I wasn't thinking Swiss Chalet or Boston Pizza.

New Year's Eve in Rome

I posted this elsewhere re: Christmas, but also applies to NYE:

Renato e Luisa (in Rome, Centro Storico) is open Dec 25, 26, 31 Jan 1 and has special prix fix menu for these special occassions at 60 euros (+20%). Budget Travel describes the restaurant as: real standout amid the casual trattorias just north of Largo Argentina. Consistently delicious Roman dishes, such as bucatini all’amatriciana (zesty tomato and pancetta pasta) and fioridi zucca (stuffed zucchini blossoms) are served in a rustic and homey atmosphere.

If you only had 1 day: Bologna vs Parma?

I have 1 day while travelling between from Florence to Milan by rail. My husband and I LOVE to eat, so we figured either Bologna or Parma would be an ideal stop-over.

If I'm looking for a more traditional small town Italian experience, is Parma a better bet?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Restaurants recommendation would also be great.

Roman Memories--Long

reneeno,

Congratulations on your wedding and what a lovely honeymoon! We're planning a trip to Rome/Florence/Milan around Christmas time. Would you be willing to share your restuarant / food shop list organized by rating and neighborhood (wow!) with me as well? It's priceless I'm sure, but though I would ask. Thanks.

Let's talk about Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Any specific brand at Longo's? Or is it the supermarket's own "generic" brand?
Thanks.

Fancy lunchy brunchy in Toronto

I forgot to mention... I had my bridal shower at Wish (girlie whisical ambience) located on the subway (Yonge and Bloor). It's located on Charles and Yonge.

Fancy lunchy brunchy in Toronto

Not exactly brunch... but what about High Tea at the King Edward's or Windsor Arms?

Caramac chocolate bars in Toronto?

What about the Nutty Chocolatier in The Beach

Amuse Bouche - OK food but REALLY LOUSY Service!

OMG - I can't agree with you more (about the lousy service that is - I don't want to get into the objectivity of food reviews here).

For my birthday several years ago, my husband (who never really cared for "fine" dining in the first place) actually made an effort to check on TL for their top new restaurants and made reservations at Amuse. I was surprised and impressed by this heroic act to say the least, and insisted we go early. We arrived at 5:45pm for our 6 o'clock reservation (don't ask my why he booked for 6pm, I was so touched by the effort I didn't care). It was pouring rain outside, so we thought we would wait in the restaurant with a glass of wine or something. A server asked us to leave because the restaurant wasn't opened until 6. She told us there was a Starbucks on King, about 5 minutes walk. I complained that it was raining outside and we just wanted wait inside; we didn't even need to be seated at a table). She said no (something about insurance). Honestly, I was abhorred at her suggestion and her overall "I don't give a shXt attitude".

So we left and went to Lee instead. We've never gone back to Amuse since. And my husband has not made another reservation based on TL since.

Snails w. Black Bean Sauce

New Capital closed down.

Mac & Cheese

What about Violet in Santa Monica in Santa Monica? I heard they even do a take-out party platter version.

Fresh California olive oil

Where can I find high quality locally made olive oil?
Thanks.

Charlie Trotter's

Is $400 per person typical for fine dining in Chicago? That's more expensive that I had expected.

Charlie Trotter's

I plan to be in Chicago for Independence Day weekend later on in the summer. And I am interested to check out Charlie Trotter's (I heard reservations are months in advance - is that true?) I must admit I'm a little intimidated because his website makes no mention of the tasting menu prices or how the whole dining experience works.

Can anyone tell me how much his Grand Menu is? As well as the wine accompaniment? Is it appropriate to discuss price point with the server at his restaurant before the meal or should I just show up with a gym bag full of cash?

Very confused. Please help.

Where to buy carbon steel wok in GTA?

How do you season a wok?

FROZEN Xiao Long Bao ?

I always stock up when I go see my dentist in Scarbrough twice a year. $12 for 50 dumplings - they also have other types of dumplings and northern dim sim. The owner tells me everything is made fresh and there is no preservatives (in an effort to prevent me from stock piling, which I still do anyway). The store front (sorry... I can't remember the name - but it's in the middle of the strip) is in a non-so-busy Chinese strip mall at 25 Glen Watford Drive (Midland and Sheppard).

Need Santouka/Asa Ramen/Kyochon info

I remember seeing the Times article, but I can't find it online anymore. Does anyone have a link? Thanks.

Where to find the best baguette in Toronto?

Celestin definitely. What about Thuet on King? I heard you have to get there early if you go on a weekend.
