Glasgow and Ayr

you won't find much in the way of innovative foods in Glasgow! but for SE asian asia style does good malaysian with it's sister branch rumours in town. Thai Siam does reasonable thai food and kokuryo decent korean. you have been to Stravaigin which does the best food round here in my opinion but other bars worth trying are the left bank, big slop or chinaskis.
Crabshakk is good for seafood and La Valle Blanche do lunches within the budget. All of these are in the West end not in town. Hope this helps.

3 Days in Scotland - Help!

I agree, there is so much to see that it would be better to have a route picked out. This website http://www.curious-eater.com might be useful for potential eating places.

Thattukada: anything not spicy?

I think that's what we will do, get the whole fish and some other bits and pieces. Thanks for your help!

Thattukada: anything not spicy?

She makes a mean biriyani herself as well as idili, sambar, chutney and dosas. It might be interesting to try the biriyani to see how she rates it. I myself have no heat restrictions so am look forward to sampling widely. She loves fish and the whole baked fish sounds like something she would like. If I picked out the flesh and avoided the marinade would that be spicy?

Thattukada: anything not spicy?

I know it is a Keralan restauarant and therefore it's unlikely, but I would like to take my mum, who is from Karanataka there and as she has gotten older she can't eat anything spicy which is a real shame for her.

Chopsticks at Yasuda?

I know! Which is why I thought a little bit of research would not go amiss, don't want to offend or get thrown out!

EMP- walk in at lunch time.

Is it easy to get a table this way or are they pretty full. We don't mind sitting at the bar but would like to do the tasting menu, is it possible to do that at the bar?

Thanks!

Upcoming visit, what do you think?

Hi, we are staying LES. I get bad jet lag so am usually awake by 5am. My husband doesn't and usually lies in! To combat this I plan to wander about the LES hence the donut and bagel, then have brunch at 1pm with his highness, once he wakes up. We are quite keen to go to Bemelmans at the Carlyle for a cocktail or two so would be heading uptown anyway. Thanks for pointing it out though. Love your posts by the way.

Upcoming visit, what do you think?

Hello, getting really excited now, we will be in NYC this Friday and although we have been before each time is as exciting as the first!

As usual I have spent the last year refining our itinerary but would appreciate any comments you can make

Friday
lunch- Spotted Pig. My husband loves blue cheese burgers and I think the Cubano sounds amazing
dinner- Arturo's may not be the 'best' but we love the atmosphere cosy, busy with the live jazz

Saturday
brunch- Telepan, this I am uncertain about. I would prefer somewhere you can book as brunch is a big deal. I also intend on going to Donut Plant and Russ and Daughter's for a Super Heeb in the morning for breakfast.
dinner- ssam bar, this place

Sunday
Lunch Gramercy Tavern my husband loves the atmosphere of the Tavern also helps that they have a good cocktail list!
dinner- Grand Sichuan International St Mark's I have read alot about Sichuan Gourmet but have plumped for GSI and this branch.

Monday
Lunch Yasuda
Dinner Babbo

Tuesday
Lunch- Le Bernardin
dinner- we had reservations at Allen and Delancey but on hearing Neil Ferguson has quit I canceled them, so we have an open slot. Still can't decide if it was a mistake to cancel, but now thinking of Casa Mono

Wednesday
Lunch Di Fara
Dinner- L'atelier.

Thursday- random selection of things we liked the best.

Thanks again!

Small plates: Tia Pol, Casa Mono or Degustation..

I think that Casa Mono sounds really tasty, I just wish I had more time then I could go to all of them! Managed to get a res at Babbo another Batali place. They are different enough to go to both?

Shopsin's.

I don't think they do food to go.. I think I will just go and see what happens, the allure of the sliders and a chocolate malted milkshake is proving too strong! Thanks for the advice.

Small plates: Tia Pol, Casa Mono or Degustation..

The first two seem more casual, whereas Degustation seems like a formal tasting menu. Are they all equal or do people feel that one stands out. Or are they just too different to say?
The 10 course menu at Degustation sounds great, has anyone had it recently? Were you really full afterwards?

Glad to hear any thoughts on these places or any other small plate places. Thanks in advance!

Shopsin's.

I would really like to go, but am slightly apprehensive given all I have read and heard about how fickle the Shopsin's can be about who they serve. They seem to like regulars but we are tourists and would only be going once.
Is it really as difficult as I have heard, to be allowed to stay? I am aware of the 'rules' and we are generally quite amiable, not loud or obnoxious or demanding. I have a fear of being thrown out. Guess I have taken 'eat me' and 'I like killing flies' too much to heart!
I have researched the menu and would really like to try the sliders amongst other things..

Myth? or fact?

Grand sichuan 7th ave or St Mark's?

Hello we will be in NYC in November and Grand Sichuan is on our list but I am having difficulty trying to decide which one to go to, and would appreciate your help. The small portion option at 7th ave as it allows for more dishes to be tried but from researching this board and others it would seem it has had seem teething problems. Would it be safer to stick to St Mark's.. do they do the small portions option?

Thanks!

Chef Ferguson to leave Allen & Delancey report...

It seems odd that no one else has posted, a couple of folk on egullet have mentioned it but given the popularity of the place I thought more people would be upset...

Yasuda on holiday who else to sit in front of?

Hello, just phoned to make a reservation for lunch in middle of November but Yasuda himself is away on holiday. Who else would people recommend?

Thanks for your help!

drinks near Le Bernardin (155 W 51st St btwn 6th & 7th)

They actually make decent cocktails at the bar at Le Bernardin.. but it might not have the pre-dinner atmosphere you want.

what to order at Babbo?

Hello, we are hoping to get a reservation for November. If we get lucky, does anyone know if they do half portions of pasta? There are four we would like to try, but that in addition to appetizers would be way too much from the looks of the portion sizes. Can you get the sweetbreads as an appetizers too?

Ideally tongue and sweetbreads then four half portions pasta..

Di Fara's what to order..

Hey I am sure we could work out a deal if you guys are willing to put in a bit of the work, queuing, ordering etc!!

Would a square pie, half pepperoni be sacrilegious? With a couple of plain slices whilst we wait..

Marcus Wareing at the Berkeley. Anyone been?

I have a reservation for October. I too find it odd that there are no reviews out there in the ether. Well, I hope that you have a great evening and enjoy your meal! If you can please post back..

Di Fara's what to order..

My eyes are well known to be bigger than my belly, so I suppose it's just it seems a waste, but you know, what the heck I will give the extra away. If people will take it..

Cheers!

Di Fara's what to order..

I have heard lots about the square pie. Is it a lot bigger that the round? I am worried I don't have the requisite tummy capacity! Maybe two plain, two pepperoni and two square slices would be the way.. Then if there is room we could join the queue again?

By the way, thanks for your advice!

Di Fara's what to order..

Hello we will be in New York this November and I hope to make it to Di Fara's . Yep I am a tourist, and I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me..

I plan to go on my birthday during the week. It will be a Wednesday and I aimed to get there for when it opens as I think it will be a great way to start the day. When does it open? Is it 11am or 11.30am?

Next question, how big are the pies? I suppose I mean, how many slices do they equate to? I will be there with my partner and I thought two plain slices, two pepperoni would be enough. But would it make more sense to get a pie? And if so, can you can a pie plain on one half, with pepperoni on the other?

One last thing, is it byob? Can we bring along a couple of beers?

I have read alot about Di Fara's on this site, slice and serious eats and I am a bit worried about the whole ordering thing. Is it really that difficult? Any tips for a newbie? I am prepared to wait and will bring reading material!!

Thanks in advance.

2 years since my last visit in barcelona..

Hi I thought there was nothing wrong with your English.. I am heading to Barcelona tomorrow. I too love Pinoxto and Xampanyet. There is a place called La Plata that I have wanted to go to but is always shut when I try. La Plata - maps.google.com
C/ Mercè 28, Barcelona - +34 933 151 009 old school tapas, four dishes only. I will be heading back to Paco Meralgo and Tapa c24. If I find anywhere else I will post about it.

Barcelona..."bistronomic"?

HI richradka I would be keen to hear more about some of the places you mentioned especially Catalina, Embat and Goliard. When are they open, and what price range are we talking? What are your favourite dishes.. Have you been to Apat or Gresca? Another place that a friend recommended is Farga. I know it's not bistronomic but it's meant to be good.

Petrus (London)-Marcus Wareing

It would seem great minds think alike but you were a bit luckier on that front. I did not phone the Concierge but the manager for food and drink, twice and then emailed them. I did get an email saying they valued my interest and would get backto me as soon as they started to take reservations! Still haven't heard from them.. Obviously I need to phone the Concierge. We had been considering our options for that night and had decided on Foliage but maybe I will see what the Berkeley has to say.. Thanks for letting me know!
