Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (Canadian Version)
The place in Springbrook was referred by the locals as the Bowling Alley as it did have a working 5 pin alley. It was shut down about 1 1/2 years ago. Unfortunatly the restaurant has closed down. Definately a DDD spot.
Shawarmas in Toronto
It's funny you say that. I had my very first Sharwarma in London many years ago and it was lamb with cucumbers and other toppings and the best sauce. When they started appearing hear there was no lamb. How dissappointing. I had wone almost every day.
Memphis (Style) Smoke House
Since you are disscusing places out of town, a new one has opened in Belleville .
Owner Alex has a good knowledge of smoking. Had the brisket and it was nice and tender and just the right amount of smoke. Great beans and sweetpotatoe fries. Reasonable price. Definatley worth a try. Only a few minutes from 401, hwy 62 s. He also has his own sauces that are very good.

Carmen' Club
mexivilla,
Thanks for that link. I met Aurther Carmen many times. He was a great host and always made sure his patrons were well looked after. I have seen him comp peoples meals if there was a problem. A real gentleman.
Where should Anthony Bourdain (No Reservations) go while in Toronto?
I agree. He has been every where, a true gourmand.
Let's see what he comes up with. I am sure he will do his research.
Where should Anthony Bourdain (No Reservations) go while in Toronto?
How about some local walleye ??
Winterlicious - Majority terrible, why people still bother going?!!
I totally agree. Not all of us can afford $300.00 meals. A reasonable lunch would give us a chance to try some upscale restos and maybe return for dinner on a special location. For a place to cut corners and quality is a shame. They should not be in it. I also cook, so when i go out i like to have things i cannot cook well.
Just my oppinion
Montrealer visiting Toronto for first time!
Ther are many great places, espcially chinese and other ethnics.
Don't try to compare our delies or bagels to Montreal, Enjoy
Ancient but good - what's your long standing favourite?
I'll second the "Jug". Been going there for 30 years and the food is still great.
Also most of the original people are still there. Some of the best BBQ & crispy pig.
Best Cheddar Cheese
I second Mapledale. I live in the region so i have many cheese producers in the area. There is also Ivanho Cheese and Eldorado Cheese. Black River in PEC is also good.
Bagel frustration
Has anyone tried Open Window bakery? There rye bread is second to none. there bagels are pretty fair when fresh. I think thats the key to any good bagel. Are there any jewish bakers making these bagels? That seems too be the problem with this product. The old European trainned bakers of old were true craftsmen.
Help! Repatriated Torontonian baffled by the Chinese food!
Most restaurants today do not make there own egg rolls. They buy them from places that mass produce them. Chicken balls and a lot of things are bought in because thery are cheaper and easy. Food courts are good but you probably woun't find egg rolls.
Bathurst and College
Hey Guy's
Thanks for all the suggestions. It's going to be a tough choice.
BF Buritto or Perolas might get the nod.

coffee in kingston
Best coffee in K town is Panchancho bakery on Princess near Ontario.
Food is excellent as well. Eat in or take out.
Where to find British Food?
There is a Scottish bakery in Brampton on Drew Rd. I believe it is Old Country Scottish Bakery. They are From Scotland and all there baked goods are made there. They suplly most of the British stores in the city. they also have some british groceries and may have some chocloate.
Buster Rhino's Authentic Southern BBQ - Whitby
Went there last week and had the brisket. Very nice and moist. Good sauce. SO had the pulled pork, it was good but I preferred the brisket.
It seems they only have ribs on thurs and friday.
Looking for a good Indian restaurant near the airport
Try Sweet India on Airport Rd north of Derry Rd. on west side. Best samosa. All food is homemade.
Cast Iron Pan
The more you use it the better it gets. After it is washed, dry it and put it on the burner to warm it up so that it thorouly dries and give it a thin coating of oil. Do not let it sit in water.
Real Veal Cutlet Sandwhich
There used to be a place in Weston called SanAntoion Foods. They cooked there veal fresh for all sandwiches. They were the best. Does anyone know if they are still there?
Caplansky's: What the @#$%^&*?!!!
Huy Pincus, To my knowledge all the original delis in T.O. and Mont. wher started by Jewish butchers or restauranturs that came from Poland,Russia and other countries. They knew how to make corned beef and pastramie, and it was better than anything you get today. They wern't worried about fat or calories. Not only that but the Jweish bakeries.
Worst in Toronto
Gourmets o C was great when it first opened. Haven't been fo years. Thats what happens.
people go regardless and all the owners care about is money. It amazess me to how many people do not know what good food tastes like.
Worst in Toronto
What would you expect in a food court? If i go to a restaurant and the cooks are not of the nationality of the cusine i won't eat there
