No, they accept credit and debit.

Are they cash only?

Restaurant Openings - 2010

It's not on Van Horne but rather Cote-Sainte-Catherine and Cote-des-Neiges (kitty corner the Jewish General). I tried it yesterday and it was decent but they are still working out service issues so our lunch lasted way longer than it should have.

Banh Mi in Chinatown 2/Concordia University

I haven't been in a year or so but i liked Ba-Le when i used to go. A bit more expensive than the Chinatown Banh Mi. That is the only place i have ever heard of that serves Banh Mi around Concordia which is a shame since they are great to have while studying.

Restaurant Openings - 2010

There seems to be a huge sign up for a Dubai Subs on the south side of de Maissoneuve between Pierce and St Mathieu.

Wok Cafe - 1845 Rue Sainte-Catherine W Montreal, QC

The one on the southwest corner is U & Me noodles and i wholeheartedly agree with you on the ughhh.

How About Some Updates On Qing Hua Dumpling

The funny thing is that one could make the same argument for Maison Du Nord. Lately they have been extremely slow with bouts of poor service. I've waited 45 min for a lunch meal, had my dish brought out at the same time that my dining partner was notified her dish was unavailable and showed up to find the place closed when they were clearly supposed to be open. But i still love them after all that.

Qing Hua is still good but the prices have gone up from their previous location.

Pho in Montreal: 2009

I was just there yesterday for lunch and i was impressed with the amount of tripe and tendon that they gave me in my large #1. However i felt the broth was lacking somehow as well. It was still good but i agree with the assessment that it was lacking depth. We also noticed the new sriracha bottles but i didn't use enough of it to notice a change in its taste.

Restaurant Closings - 2010

I just saw their products at the IGA Louise Menard in Complex Desjardins. Frankly i'm surprised that Riz en Folie lasted that long.

best $10.....

I went by there yesterday and they were closed and had a sign saying that they would be closed for two months.

Lin & Lin - Chinese Dumplings on Beaubien

Supermarche Bonjour will make custom frozen dumplings on request. The friendly man behind the counter mentioned that they will make dumplings using custom ingredients if a combination that one wants is not already available.

Also they had a slow cooker full of chinese tea eggs sitting out last night and they were 50 cents each. I tried one and it was okay but basically it tasted like a boiled egg with a very subtle tea flavor and some saltiness.

best $10.....

I haven't been in awhile but every so often i go to the indian place on the third floor of the Faubourg and grab a chicken tikka sandwich. I like the concept of them. It's like a shish taouk sandwich except it has tikka chicken and is wrapped in a naan instead of a pita.

Laloux/Pops and general questions

I've been to Le Lab a few times and it is a pretty interesting place if you are into trying new and interesting cocktails. They are not cheap though with most being $10 each. But this is the kind of place where the bartender would grow his own herbs to use in the drinks. There is usually a bit of flair bartending going on too.

The crowd is pretty diverse too. Sometimes it'll be fairly full on a Friday and then sometimes there are four other people in the bar on a Saturday night. But i haven't been in the summer yet so i'm sure it will be fuller than on those cold winter nights.

Updated info sought: Best Poutine in Montreal?

I like Mme Bolduc for there interesting takes on the poutine (for example bourguignon) and i imagine that their ordinary poutine is great but its probably quite out of the way if you are looking for an ordinary poutine.

Looking for Quebec cheese

Here is an older thread that talked about cheese in Montreal in general. There may be a few ideas for places to go as well as cheeses to try:

Restaurant Openings - 2010

The Harmonie is now open.

Scotch Egg

I'm interested in trying one of these. I know that the Burgundy Lion serves them. Any other places that have them?

Restaurant Openings - 2010

None that i know of either. I think this one will do brisk business from both the chinese community in the area and also the student population looking for something to snack on in class. It doesn't say when it will open but construction is underway.

Restaurant Openings - 2010

They are opening a second branch of the chinese bakery Harmonie in Chinatown 2. This one is located on the guy side of the guy concordia metro in that little commercial area right after the turnstiles. Concordia students can rejoice as it is located right next to the new tunnel that connects the metro to the Hall building.

Bachelorette dinner advice in Montreal

Pintxo is an interesting place close to the bars on St. Laurent. The restaurant serves basque pintxos (similar to tapas). There are many favorable reviews on this board (do a search to see what people think). Also the prices are very reasonable.

Check out what they serve on the website.

Le Balcon in old montreal

My girlfriends parent's want to go check this place out. I have never heard of it and a quick search of the chowhound boards as well as a google search didn't come up with any reviews. Anybody have an opinion on this place?

Best lunch specials?

Mazurka has a lunch special that i believe is $8.75 (though it could be more now since its been a year since i glanced at it last). It's basically one of several traditional polish dishes and it comes with a soup, small salad and coffee or tea.

New Vietnamese Resto on Decarie Pho 88

I noticed it last time i was around there but i didn't realize it was that new. How was the pho broth itself? Did you enjoy it?

Montreal Downtown...let's make a list

Gastro Tour in Montreal - Recap

I really enjoyed the Pop cup #1 as i love gin and there is something about cucumber in a cocktail that makes it delicious. I wish they had more cocktails to try!

In need of date spots in the city for dinner &/or drinks

Le lab is a fun place to take a date. It's fun to try the different drinks and comment on them. The few times i've been there on Fridays it has either been quite calm or moderately busy but i didn't find the crowd to be too loud. Sometimes the music is a bit loud but no more so than any typical bar.

Does anybody know any Unusual/Unique food/restaurants places in Montreal?

Dutch Store in Montreal or area!

Oh and do try one of their pretzels. They're pretty good.

Burger DE ville - NDG ( Westminster)

Just tried this place today and i really liked it. I had a bacon cheeseburger with mayo, mustard, lettuce, caramalized onion and fried mushrooms. The burger was juicy and slightly pinkish inside. The lettuce is a bit annoying as it is actually more like the deluxe greens from the bag and the pieces are a bit small and tend to fall out of the burger but that is really a small issue. The bun held up pretty well to the juices from the mushrooms. I also split a large poutine and i thought the poutine was pretty good. The sauce is quite tasty. Curds seemed to be fine. They weren't super fresh but they didn't seem old either. The fries do tend to get a bit soggy after awhile though.

We did wait about 15-20 min for our food but considering that the place was packed i didn't feel like it was too long of a wait. I'll definitely come back here again.

Cooking Oil & Allergies [split from Quebec Board]

I have no personal experience with peanut allergies but i remember reading this on wikipedia once so i'll post it here:

Research indicates that refined peanut oil will not cause allergic reactions in most people with peanut allergies. However, crude (unrefined) peanut oils are strongly flavoured, and have been shown to contain protein, which may cause allergic reactions.

Not saying they shouldn't let people know but maybe they are using some really refined stuff and it isn't really a concern. Just something i ran across before.
