matcha green tea powder
Bought the "Mayaka" brand Matcha from the health food store on Bloor ($13/50g) and was leass than impressed-very weak flavour and a darker green. Just bought some from David's on lunch and going to give it a try. Already the colour seems better.
Regensburg/Landshut, Germany
Hello. Wondering if there's anything noteworthy here (other than the Historiche Wurstkuchl). Planning 3 days here in early October with a day trip to Landshut (avoiding Oktoberfest in Munich)
Gilead Cafe review - The food is EXTRAORDINARY! A must for any foodie!
My experiences there were with weekend brunch only.

Totally agree! Haven't been in a while, so must go back. I keep forgetting about it because it's off the beaten path.
ISO Maille pickles/cornichons
I just tried my local Sobey's too (Danforth) and no luck. That's what prompted this post.
ISO Maille pickles/cornichons
Bought some of the best pickles at Loblaws some time ago (maybe 6mths) now CURSED Loblaws (shakes fist) has appeared to have removed them from stock. Does anyone know where else to look?
Theee best crispy beef in the GTA
I never saw the big deal about Federicks. Chili chicken tastes like plain old salty gravy with a TON of pepper in it. No complexity or balance.
St. Lawrence Market - "World's Best Food Market" in National Geographic List -
Look at it this way: Sure you can go to La Boqueria in Barcelona, or Mercato Delle Herbe in Bologna and find stuff that you cannot find here at SLM. Now reverse that. What can you find here in SLM that you can't find in those (or many, many other) markets around the world?
In the market in Toulouse, France, I couldn't even find Queso Manchego! Really? Spain is, literally, right there!!!
A lot of other markets feel as if all the vendors are selling similar stuff (no matter how good quality) We have variety and quality here (it just might cost you a bit if it's imported, that's all)
Favourite Cheap-and-Cheerful Indian?
I've always been a big fan of Kathmandu on Yonge, north of College/Carlton. I live in little India, and still take the streetcar all the way there for their butter chicken and lamb sali-bothi

Theee best crispy beef in the GTA
That's the one! Love it (but fear it's full of ve-tsin). From the description below, it sounds like it might be a different dish to what the op was looking for.
BTW, they also do a great spicy pork with xo sauce and king mushroom
The Prague on Queen Street Closing?
Fantastic news! The restaurant has been sold and I've been told it will mostly remain the same.

Fairview Seafood Restaurant in a strip mall at Markham & Sheppard in Scarborough. Words can't describe how good...and cheap. You have to ask for it because I think it's off menu.

I started worshipping at the altar of SLM in college. After visiting markets from London to Istanbul I still do. We are SO very spoiled here in T.O. Bravo SLM! Bravo Toronto! I hope it never becomes corporate, touristy, exclusive or exhorbitantly overpriced.
Looking for a shop for good spanish cookware in Madrid
There's a great old school shop on Calle Echegaray near Calle Huertas that sells all sizes of Cazuelas and other porcelain dishes. While in that area grab some tapas at Casa Alberto (one of the best and oldest in Madrid)
Looking for Maese Miguel d.o.p. Manchego in Madrid
Well how about that? My second las night in Madrid and just found out that the Supermercado El Corte Ingles behind Puerta Del Sol has my cheese in stock! EUR17.95/kilo. (far better than the $55 back home)
Dating (and dining with!) a less adventurous eater
I always found Greek to be a great intro for fussy eaters (as it's pretty "meat and potatoes" in nature to begin with). I like Messini on Danforth. Been reading some interesting stuff on here about Folia Grill.
LCBO spring beer release - finally a good release
I used this recipe:
http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/carbonnade_beef_and_beer_stew/
but I tweaked it using hot mustard from Kozlik's, a bundle of fresh herbs and (very important) thickened it with pain d'epices (or gingerbread, whatever)
LCBO spring beer release - finally a good release
Thanks! I will try that instead of the Affligem Dubbel (although it came out almost exactly like the one I had at 't vosken in Ghent) Also, with the warmer temperatures, it might be time for lighter fare, lol.
LCBO spring beer release - finally a good release
Thanks! Must try the Westmalle. I'm still sore that they discontinued my Affligem (key ingredient in my Gentse Stoverij) and my beloved Lindemans Kriek (hope the bring it back for summer)

I love food (and am in Denmark in August).. Where should I go (besides Noma)...
Really liked Aamann's and Schonnemann's was pretty good too. The street hot dogs were truly amazing. Miss those too!
New bread bakery on Kingston Rd (Beaches)
Thanks! I'm sure it will be MUCH better than that awful Wanda's place (with their pre-mix waffle batter)
New bread bakery on Kingston Rd (Beaches)
Do you know the name of the company by chance? Wondering if I can contact them for large orders.
What to bring back home from SS, Madrid, Barcelona?
From Madrid, you could bring back a bottle of Cider from Casa Mingo or just a wheel of Manchego cheese (I usually get the Villacenteno Viejo from El Corte Ingles). From Barca: Some Spanish hot chocolate powder from Granja Viader.
The Prague on Queen Street Closing?
It's been up for sale for a bit now, but sounds like there are no takers. Had yet another wonderful meal there on the weekend and was told that they could be closing soon. So very sad, after 44+ years.
Flying Fish?
You should be able to get the frozen filets from either Barbados or Tobago at a West Indian store. Last time I looked for them they were a little pricey though.
New bread bakery on Kingston Rd (Beaches)
That's awesome! So far the only place I can find them regularly is at Goed Eten on Ossington.

The waffle place sounds really interesting! Hoping that it's an authentic Belgian spot. Had some great ones at the Farmer's Market at Queen and Woodward in the summer, as well as some great ones way back at the now closed "La Tea Dah" in the beach.
