Gluten free around Belfast Maine? Thanks very much for the tips! The friend I'm going with (her family has been visiting Swan Lake for 20+ years) said the Co-op would be a great resource for stocking our kitchen for the week. To know they have prepared foods is great! I will look in to all the suggestions posted. |

Gluten free around Belfast Maine? I'm heading to Swanville Maine for a week at the end of July. I gather that Swanville itself is quite small and it seems Belfast is the nearest town with many offerings. I saw in another post that there's a place in Bar Harbor, but that's about an hour and a half away. If that's my only choice so be it, but does anyone know of any dining spots closer to Belfast that offer gluten free choices? Thanks! |

Gluten free meals in Boston w/a kiddo I know the gluten-free topic has been covered a fair bit here, but none of the older suggestions quite fit my needs. So, I'm hoping someone may have a tip or two for me. My eight year-old son and I are coming up to Boston this coming weekend and I am gluten-free. Max is not, but he IS a fairly typical picky eater. That means Elephant Walk and all the other amazing looking Asian fare is out, as are all the higher end places where he'd be the only child and probably getting odd looks. We're staying at the Radisson on Stuart Street near Boston Common and I'd prefer to not stray outside Boston itself since we've got a busy schedule. I accept that our dinner may have to consist of take-out sushi for me and fast food for him probably eaten in our hotel room, but I'd love to sit down to dinner together somewhere, since this trip is for my birthday! Does anyone have any tips here? |

Restaurants with Gluten-Free Menus (or just allergy friendly) Celiac is indeed a disease, but there are many of us who have tested negative for Celiac but still can't tolerate gluten, so I think we would fall in to the "allergy" category. I tend to use the term "gluten allergy" with restaurant staff, as the word "allergy" itself acts like a trigger for the staff to pay close attention at many places. This is a great thread. I'm heading up Labor Day weekend and get quite sick for days if I eat any gluten, so these tips are invaluable to me! |

I had actually emailed Aleia's recently in regard to their GF dinner menu and received a response back as follows: Hi Erika, |

Any kid-friendly good eats near Grand Central? I'm taking my son into the city tomorrow, and a friend who works between Grand Central and the NY Public Library is taking us to lunch. I'd like to stay in that general area, and need a place that's not a horrible tourist trap but will still have fairly kid-friendly items on their menu. Think burgers, steaks, chicken, (I have a meatatarian for a son, I swear). Added twist...I'm gluten-intolerant, so no Italian places...please. It breaks my heart to walk into a restaurant full of foods I can't eat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!! |

In Search Of Ground/Dried Spices in CT I second the Willimantic Food Co-Op as a resource. They have a tremendous selection of all things bulk including spices, teas, legumes, rice, granolas, etc. Also a great resource for bulk honey, maple syrup, and olive oil. |
