Best butchers/sources of great meats in Philly region
If you're anywhere near the Main Line...there's the Main Line butcher shop in Ardmore. Very pricey, but very high quality.
Parents coming to town Saturday...KOP/Conshy, low key
In Conshy I'd suggest Pepperoncini on E. Elm for Italian. Its not traditional "spaghetti and meatballs" italian. More of the northern cuisine. But very good. They also have a very quiet, low key dining room. I'd also suggest Fayette Street Grille, which is BYO. Again, pretty low key.
I haven't tried Spampinato's yet. But I imagine its alot like Viggiano's was.
Do not go to Blackfish, its way over-rated, and the dining room can be very loud.

Main Line Prime is a great butcher shop....VERY pricey, but probably the best steak I've ever had.

Very quiet Indian is Khujaraho in ardmore. Flemings steakhouse in st davids is also quiet. Blackfish in Conshohocken is pricey, but quiet. The Old Guard House in gladwyne, also a gem.

Barclay Prime is great...but if you're looking for anything better than cafeteria food, you have a wealth of options to choose from...Union Trust, Mortons, Chima, Capital Grille, Ruth Chris, Butcher And Singer...i know a couple of those are chains, but their meat is still good!

Recently had a great dinner at Ruth's Chris in AC. For Italian try Ventura's on Atlantic Ave in Margate. Best donuts and Bassett's Ice Cream is at Junior on the bay in margate.

The Classic Diner in Malvern is wonderful. But you have to get there around 8a or you'll have to wait a while for a seat. Another option that is closer to Plymouth Meeting is Hymie's Too! on Germantown Ave. It used to be called Izenbergs,. but Hymie's bought it about 6 months ago.
Eat-in Pizza Center City
Looking for a place to go with the in-laws on Friday night. They're alittle tight, so we thought gourmet pizza would be a good idea. We're hoping for some place in Center City. Some place like Pietro's...any suggestions?

My husband and I will be in town this weekend for the TD Bank Five Boro Bike tour. We're staying in the Murray HIll neighborhood and are looking for a simple dinner Saturday night. Something within walking distance, no entree's over $20, BYOB is fine. Doesn't matter what type of food. Suggestions?

"Stimulus Dinner", or other value meals sparked by the economy
had a wonderful prixe-fix on sunday night at xochitl. four courses for $35. sundays only. the great part was that you can choose one app, one entree and one dessert from their regular menu, no restrictions. even the specials and the ceviche are available.
Dinner in Conshohocken
I agree with most Blackfish comments...its really not worth the hype.
Fayette Street Grille is adorable, also a BYO. Another BYO is a thai restaurant called Chiangmai.
Off the beaten path of Fayette street a bit is a place call Trattoria by Vincent Totaro...don't expect the typical "italian" menu here, its more mediterranean.
If you're in town for a wedding and will be eating fancy food all weekend, you may feel like some plain old american food. Great American Pub and Flanigans both have huge menu's with pretty good standard bar fare.
Anniversary dinner between Conshohocken and West Chester?
I agree Gilmore's would be a great choice. The Spence Cafe in West Chester is also great!
You may have people suggest Blackfish in Conshohocken. Its way over-hyped, don't waste your time. In Conshohocken, Fayettte Street Grille is a cute little BYOB on Fayette Street

The Spring Mill Cafe in conshohocken is a very romantic spot. its an old farmhouse nestled into the hills. french cuisine and not cheap but definitely romantic.

oddly enough, i've heard that a place called NYPD pizza is really good. i think its around 13th and chestnut

Zahav is terrific. and it will probably be pretty quiet on a thursday night. another good spot is Alma de cuba.
Center City Pre-Bachelor Party Dinner Suggestions
its not particularly inexpensive, but Fogo de Chao, a brazilian steakhouse, would be great for a bachelor party. I think it starts at 50 bucks per person, and that includes all you can eat meat.
Recs near Sheraton University Hotel
The New Deck tavern has very good pub/irish food. Mad MEx is a good tex mex place. And Pod is a funky asian fusion. all within a couples of blocks of your hotel.
also, Pizza Rustica, across the street from your hotel has great speciality pizza and italian food.

We went to Chelsea Prime in Atlantic City. The food was good, but we both thought that it wasn't as good as the other Stephen Starr's we've been to.
The atmosphere was just as over the top as other Starr restaurants though. White pattent leather booths, low lighting, old hollywood photos on the wall. Our waiter was dressed in an old fashioned tux. Very nice atmosphere.
For apps we ordered the Scallops wrapped in bacon, simply delicious. They were presented on a fried green tomato with some kind of maple syrup. We also got a tomato mozz salad. Tomatos were mushy. We both ordered the 8 oz filet. Mine was supposed to be done Medium, his Medium Rare, but both came out the same.
I would go back if I wanted a fancy Starr experience, but if I want a steak I'd rather go to Gallaghers.

We recently took my parents to the Fountain Room at the Four Seasons to celebrate their 30 year anniversary. Everything was superb! The meal ran about $110 person, drinks and tip included. It was truly a special dinner.

I second Lacroix in the Rittenhouse Hotel..not too far from the Ritz. Amazing food, and a great view of Rittenhouse Square

Bistro Romano is consistently voted one of the most romantic restaurants in Philly. I've been there and I can attest for it...its dark and romantic with amazing italian food.
For something alittle more adventurous, try Zahav in Old City, the cuisin is Israeli.

Main Line Bridal Shower Brunch
There is a restaurant called Pond in Radnor. It is tucked away off of Lancaster Ave. My co-workers threw me a small bridal shower here and the food was amazing. They definitely have the facililties for 30-40 people because they have weddings.
Small Wedding Cakes
I would try Bredenbecks on Germantown Ave in Chestnut Hill. They made the cake for my wedding and it was delicious. I know they specialize in gourmet cup cakes too, so small cakes may be right up their alley.
