Cafe Provence is good. So is Tatsu. Cassis is gone - the chef owned provence also but I think his brother runs it now. Never been to amis....Aixois is geared toward older neighbor hood ladies IMO....Not classical haute. |

Try the new Strouds on Shawnee Misson Pkwy. Or RC's in Martin City. Or for that matter Jess and Jim's although I'm not sure if that falls in your price range. Are you looking for BBQ only? |

Kansas City, Mo. Old Restaurants Boots & Coats Was the best!!! |

It is legal in the state of MO. But illegal in the city of Kansas City. The city wants the tax from the sale. The state of of Kansas and most of the cities in JoCo allow byob. And it is illegal (in KCMO) for anyone to consume alcohol in public if a venue if it does not have a liq licence. Call the city they'll tell you the same thing. |

KC Recommendations in the Downtown Area Isn't that the one hotel om main street? If it is you are between westport and the plaza. |
I don't know why I didn't think of that! Yes, frogs, pig's feet, black chickens, crabs about anything you can think of. |
I also have heard very good things. Kinda a drive for me for pizza but I can't wait to try it! |
You might try Werner's on Johnson drive. Also there a quite a few Mexican and south American places on on South West Blvd. |

Point is Heritage picked the restaurant they didn't. If you think these chef's had ever heard of justus your crazy. |
THERE UP NORTH! CLOSER TO HERITAGE |

I heard the only reason those chef’s were there was because Heritage Foods took them there after a farm tour. Big deal. Great they are packed every night! But will that last? And as far as the magazines go Michael & Debbie, Celina, Colby & Megan Garretts get far more mag exposure. |

This sucks.....I'm kinda worried about this place holding on in the long term anyway. Now, all you Justus supporters don't get in a tizzy. I know they are a very lovely couple. But their business recipe is a little scary in the long term. Especially if they are “mortgaged to the hilt” I strongly hope they make it. I really really hope I’m wrong. The restaurant business is tough alone, add the horrible economy, plus the fact that ultra rich people are what ultimately keep these places open……Not saying there are no ultra rich in Smithville just not as many as there are in the southern burbs. |

KC where is your dessert spot? Megan at bluestem was on the 20 list for best pastry chefs in the whole country from James Beard this year! I think she is doing the most creative stuff in town! |

I'm am not slamming your opinion in fact I agree totally. I have had less then steller meals at all his locations. 1924’s food does seem cheap. But look at the prices he’s charging. You would have no choice. I am the chef of a private club in South Kansas City and I have wanted to open my own place more than once but every time I crunched the numbers you would have to charge the same prices as the American to sell top of the line ingredients and make it. And I am not exaggerating at all!! I think all the places in town that try to give the customer a “value” by try to sell the same food as the “big dogs” at a discounted price will always lose. There is a reason why the expensive restaurants and clubs in KC survive. They know what they are doing. |

The chef @ pizzabella was the a sous chef at bluestem and a sous chef a pachamama's before that. He knows what he's doing. He also does nightly specials like whole roasted fish and duck confit and he does all of it in the pizza oven....amazing food. |

Justus Drugstore Restaurant special offer! Justus Drugstore is a good restaurant but I doubt all the hype will last much longer. It is way to far north for people to eat - drink and feel safe driving home. Besides Mike Smith, Debbie Gold, Colby Garrelts and Celina Tio hold the torch in Kansas City. Gourmet, Wine Spec, Food & Wine and other publications write far more about them then about Justus. As for the special offer I wonder if they are already feeling the hit if the are giving away food for free |

Pot Pie In westport. Harry's bar & tables has late night food ($10 to $20) Room 39 does a late night under $20. Pizza bella in the crossroads. Blue Stem has a great bar menu. everything under $16 and probably the best atmosphere. Or you could go to kona on the plaza. |

Seafood Markets in Kansas City Chilean sea bass takes nine to 10 years to reach maturity and has a lifespan of 40 years. A sustainable fish like the sardine, by contrast, matures in less than 15 months. The notion of an oasis of sustainable, productive Chilean sea bass can be compared to hitting oil in your Alaskan backyard, selling it in controlled amounts, and saying it is different because you are pumping it at regulated amounts. It still doesn't solve the overall energy/global warming problem. |

Seafood Markets in Kansas City Unfortunately Heatherkay is correct. Seattle & Fabulous are the 2 fish companies in KC. There is also Morey’s in the industrial district in NKC. The problem is ALL the grocery stores in the Metro get their fish from these three companies. Some may ship in from other cities but probably not many. I’ll bet even Whole Foods buys from them too. The problem with the fish companies here is they freeze almost everything. You can tell when you press the flesh that it has been compromised. I don’t blame them either. Fish is a tough business. Imagine guessing how much VERY expensive product your customers are going to order in a weekend and having to make sure you don’t run out. Almost every nice restaurant in KC flies their fish in from either the East or West coast or even Chicago. You will hear chefs and fish people say the Midwest gets all the good fish and the coast restaurants get the second pick. If that’s true, they are sending it to Chicago or other MW towns because it’s not coming here!!!! And if it is, the fish companies really need to learn how to handle their product. Cause it sucks right now. Other than that you might want to talk to the restaurants you frequent and see if they will order for you. I have been known to do that in the past. BTW, Sirregular you might want to check out the Monterey Bay Aquarium and their sustainable seafood program. It will tell what fish is good to buy and which ones are endangered. Patagonian Toothfish (Chilean Sea Bass) is highly endangered and should not be consumed. |
