Food at 2012 Lowell Folk Festival

Update from last night!

New: Liberian food booth at Dutton St dance stage - incl. cassava leaf w/rice, jellof rice, juicy bbq chkn, etc There's also Israeli and other good-looking food available there.

BoardingHouse: The greek booth (I think it was, maybe a different booth) had our beloved fatoosh (spicy salad w/pita) The Lao booth had VERY GOOD papaya salad - freshly made! and w/a little burn... As usual, the Latin American booth on the corner of John St had bacalaito - a cod (?) fritter that is excellent when fresh!

That's it so far!

Have fun - And if you see a 5' woman, 50s, w/glasses and long hair - say Hi!

Oh, one more: from the stage, they said one of the food/tomato demos would be Nepali - and I already noted that one is Nigerian.

Food at 2012 Lowell Folk Festival

This doesn't answer your specific question - but I just noticed the Festival website has a list of demos for the foodways booth - theme: tomatoes; nationalities include Nigerian (!)

Usually this booth is in Lucy Larcom park, right next to St Anne's - which often has the Nigerians (goat stew!) and, one year, I believe, Senegalese food...

Ethnic and Cultural Festivals, July 2012

There are lots of posts on Chowhound, on specific stalls/foods at the Lowell Folk Festival, from past years. Just do a search.

For those who don't already know, there will also be 5 outdoor stages of wonderful, traditional music from around the world, and it's all free!

near Logan Airport

Again, the quickest way to food and then back to the airport - take the terminal/T stop shuttle to the Airport T stop, walk THROUGH the T stop (up and over the tracks - you don't have to pay!), out THAT exit, and then on to Angela's, Rincon Limeno, or Taqueria Jalisco - each a 5 minute walk!

What is the superlative taco and where to find it in the Boston area?

MC -

The RC right in Maverick Square is being worked on - I didn't realize that there had been a fire, but they are clearly trying to rebuild.

Early dinner near the Met with 4 kids, 4 adults! Please advise...

Beyoglu was - at least a couple of years ago - a fine place to have a (large - we were 8 or so) family dinner before/after the Met. I might bring a stroller for the 5 y.o. - the Met is tiring even for grown-ups, and the walk afterwards to the restaurant might just do her completely in!

Best Street Food Near Rock Center

EDIT!! Alas, This place is closed!

I really like the chaat at a place in the 50s (?) just west of 5th; sorry I don't remember the name but search here and in the Village Voice's Fork in the Road blog for chaat - Name begins withSs.

This place IS a restaurant, but the chaat is Indian street food, and it's easy to do take out!

Best chow IN Logan Airport?

The great Meridian Market (Eastie) Specials (subs - see other posts) may still be available at Cibo's in Terminal C. They used to make them fresh daily in the early AM at the Market and bring 'em over.

I'm happy to send you the website info - Just click on my screenname for how to contact me.

Stalls are now listed; list looks the same as past years. No mention online of St Anne's, but don't miss it! They do sell out early - Last year it was the Nigerians who've been there before , and a booth from Sri Lanka.

Foodies with toddler looking for Boston advice

East Boston is accessible by T and has the best central American food (I'd suggest Rincon Limeno/Peruvian seafood and Buen Gusto/a bit upscale Salvadoran) and of course, Angela's wonderful Mexican. All VERY child friendly in atmosphere, RL and BG are closer to the T.

Or, go to Rosticeria Cancun for Mexican/Salvadoran street food (next to Maverick Station) One grownup waits for the order, the other brings the kiddo to the gorgeous, harborside Piers Park a few blocks away to wait and eat! (BTW, Scups, close by, is closed, boohoo!) You can take a water taxi back to downtown!

Nice review, Daniel. As has been noted elsewhere on the board, the Islands is across from the Brooklyn Museum. Always my "go to" spot when I'm in the neighborhood.

suggestions for interesting restaurant where parking is easy?

Further out of town - Fuloon in Malden for excellent Chinese - but search the board for recommendations there as they have a huge menu. Also, if you'd like to try excellent Ethiopian, Habesha is down the street.

ISO Lowell picnic spot

gg -

Another possible picnic spot, or two...

St Anne's courtyard is very grassy and leafy and pleasant, but I'm not sure about benches. Right on Merrimack, opposite Shattuck.

And right around the corner (facing the church, it's to your left) is a park along the canal, with benches I'm almost certain.
