Chris DeBarr leaving Green Goddess!

Wow, I was planning to go for lunch on 5/18. I understood that Chris primarily did dinner and Paul primarily did lunch, I'm hoping that's still a good plan. Can anyone tell me how the lunch crowds have been lately? Any ideas for back-up plan in case it's too jammed up?

Anything wrong at Patois?

So Clancy's is a place we could pop into for a drink before Patois? Have never been to Clancy's, so wasn't sure. Cure does sound intriguing, but I might like to walk from drinks to dinner

Anything wrong at Patois?

Thanks! I love this Board!

Anything wrong at Patois?

Is there a good watering hole nearby for a pre-dinner drink? I was thinking of starting at Cure that night (and still may -- and just cab from one to the other). But wondered if there is anything walkable that is fun/worthy.

Anything wrong at Patois?

Thanks, UptownLibrarian! -- that link worked. When I went on OpenTable before (both directly and through Patois' website), it said they were offline. Must have been having some momentary interruption. Thanks for your help. (I LOVE Open Table -- so much faster than calling.) Very excited about my first visit to Patois.

Anything wrong at Patois?

They're not even listed on OpenTable now.

Anything wrong at Patois?

I've been trying to call Patois for two days to make a reservation, and the line is constantly busy. There's nothing on their website about being closed. Does anyone know why I can't get through to them?

Three Lunches (Weds/Thurs/Fri)

Please help me narrow this down (i.e., eliminate one)
Mr. B's
Green Goddess
MiLa
August

I really want to keep Mr. B's, since I still have yet to taste their BBQ shrimp. That will probably be Wednesday, since I have no afternoon obligations and can delve into martinis and/or bloody mary's on the cheap. Thursday I'll have a 2 hour break from a conference (@ the Ritz) so I thought either August of MiLa, both of which have a nice prix fixe deal. MiLa sounds more interesting and is closer to the Ritz, but August gets a lot of love on this board. I thought Green Goddess would be good for Friday and its menu intrigues me, but am open to eliminating that in favor of keeping either MiLa/August. Thursday is the only day that I'm pressed for time. Thoughts?

Mid-May visit: How do I find which restaurants are running specials?

My issue w/August's menu is that there was no notation that it was available every day, so I didn't know if it was just on certain days (as I have experienced elsewhere). It certainly does sound like a great deal, as does MiLa's.

Mid-May visit: How do I find which restaurants are running specials?

Will be in New Orleans for a conference from 5/16-19, so will have lunch and dinner on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I've seen some references on this board to various prix fixe lunch specials, but not sure these are offered every day. Do any places have such prixe fixe dinner deals as well? Curiously, the restaurants' websites (e.g. August) are not always helpful on this score. Any recommendations are much appreciated!

Boston Hounds Headed to The SLC.

Not a SLC local, but frequent visitor. Forage is a little over the top. Copper Onion and Eva are both nice options. Well-prepared, interesting food, both a little noisy (but fun places). My favorite coffee place is Coffee Garden at 9th/9th.

SLC: Frida's Bistro

I have to say, I wasn't wowed by Frida's. Although my dinner was quite good (Halibut Veracruz), I don't think it warranted a $27 price, given the overall ambiance of the place. My mango habanero margarita was so-so (even though the combination sounded amazing). We split the duck carnitas, which were good, but again, not a home run. Next trip, I'll go back to Red Iguana, which in my experience hits it out of the park every time.

Looking for something fun and off-beat in Columbus

Thanks for the great list. Alana's, Basi Italia (that pasta dish with the golden raisins -- yum) and G. Michael are some of my favorite places in Cbus. Haven't been to Thurmans, but want to go. Jeni's -- incredible (they have one in Cleveland now).

I've been to Lindeys, but not the others. They all look great. The cocktail list at Jury Room makes me want to hop in the car and drive to C-bus right now!

For breakfast, I'd rather stay close in. For dinner, I'm pretty open to driving for something fun and worthwhile.

Looking for something fun and off-beat in Columbus

Have been to Betty's and loved it (truth be told, though, I was already a little cocktailed before I got there!). Have been to Due Amici for lunch, and would try it for dinner. Kind of like the idea of escaping from the downtown "suits." Tommy's sounds great! Is there a name for that neighborhood?

Looking for something fun and off-beat in Columbus

Will be in Columbus for 3 days in late November, staying downtown. Have been to Columbus plenty of times, and have eating at all of the "usual suspects." Last year I wound up at Black Creek Bistro, and loved it (funky place, funky neighborhood, great, locally sourced food, unpretentious). I would gladly go back, but wondered if you Columbus chowhounds can recommend similar spots. I will have a car, and price isn't really an issue. Also, would love recommendations for breakfast downtown -- especially in the greasy spoon genre. Thanks!!

Sunday Breakfast in Shadyside

Thanks for everyone's advice. We had some wonderful cocktails at Soba (the "Dirty Pickle" - with Hendricks Gin and pickle brine was fantastic), and easy walk to Avenue B, followed by an absolutely incredible dinner. I had Red Snapper with Mango Curry, topped with Asian Slaw. It was one of the best fish preparations I've ever had (and I eat fish often). The fish was perfectly seared, and the sauce and all of the textures went together perfectly. Being a BYOB place made it great. With 2 bottle of a nice Chardonnay, that would've added $60-$70 to our tab. Breakfast the next morning at Pamela's was perfect. I had eaten there a while back, and forgot that their pancakes are truly the best anywhere. Thanks again for the advice!

That might work, since they open for brunch at 10am. Thanks!

Sunday Breakfast in Shadyside

I did notice that as I studied the map. We have the option of the hotel shuttle dropping us off at our initial stop, and then walking to Avenue B from there. Our after dinner destinations are some drinking establishments along Ellsworth, which seems like an easy walk form Avenue B. I assume that area is safely walkable?

Ah, now looking at the Point Brugge brunch menu makes me regret our tight timetable. Next time! Have been to Pamela's in Oakland and liked it. The pancakes are definitely great (and I'll keep in mind to ask for real butter per Jay's suggestion). Spoon and Soba both look good for drinks before dinner, thanks!

Sunday Breakfast in Shadyside

Three of us will be staying on Saturday night in Shadyside (5th/Aiken) and want a hearty breakfast on Sunday before setting off for Fallingwater. Since our tour at Fallingwater is at 12:30, and it's about a 90 minute drive, we need to make sure we hit the road by 11:00. Any suggestions? Also, having dinner at Avenue B on Saturday night. Any suggestions for a place to stop for interesting cocktails on the way there (we'll be walking from the hotel)? Thanks!

Help needed near Cleveland Airport

One exit past the airport toward downtown is AMP 150. Truly a wonderful place in a very unlikely location. Otherwise the area is somewhat a culinary wasteland.

Wonderful experience at Dante's Kitchen

It is Southern Decadence that usually brings me to New Orleans, which is always Labor Day weekend. While it really is a fun time, after Katrina, Gustav and Lee, perhaps I should rethink the whole program and opt for a different time to visit.

Wonderful experience at Dante's Kitchen

This was my first dinner of what turned out to be a sadly shortened trip (thanks to Tropical Storm Lee). After a lovely hour at the Ogden Museum's Thursday After Hours, I boarded the streetcar for the Riverbend neighborhood and walked to Dante's within 5 minutes from exiting the streetcar at Maple. The place was a lovely unassuming cottage, directly across the street from Brightsens. I was in dire need of a cocktail, and the menu was full of enticing, creative offerings. I settled on the Polar Negroni, a modern twist on an old recipe (using Aperol instead of Campari, and jazzing it up with some sparkling wine and a few other ingredients). So nice, I had to have another -- at which point I reconfirmed my love of New Orleans! My waiter, very professional but without a hint of pretense or attitude, guided me through the menu. I chose as my appetizer the escargots served with chopped house-made bacon, goat cheese, basil and vermouth. This was, as the waiter suggested, rather rich, but quite delicious. Next came the complimentary molasses spoonbread, served in a miniature cast iron skillet, topped with melted butter. This alone would be reason to return! My main course was Redfish on the Half Shell -- named because it's cooked in a very hot skillet skin side down so that the skin becomes like a shell, from which the fish lifts out very easily. The fish was heavily spiced (a la Paul Prudhomme) -- but was topped with generous quantity of chopped fresh herbs -- cilantro, dill, parsley and perhaps one other -- and sweet crabmeat. By itself, the fish would have been overpowering, but the added ingredients balanced it out and I thought the dish was a great success. For dessert I had 3 house-made sorbets from local produce - watermelon, plum and peach-blueberry. A perfect end to a very impressive dinner. Also, VERY reasonably priced.

restaurants in Niagara on the Lake

I've dined twice at Peller Estate, both times were lunches combined deal with theatre tickets. I thought the price was quite reasonable, and the food, the room, the service and the overall experience were exquisite. We had dinner at the Charles Inn, which was just OK, and not a great value. Wish we would have gone to Stone Road Grille, but we wanted to walk from where we were staying.

Wow, had never heard of an Aviation, but looked it up and it sounds great (as do quite a few of Green Goddess' other offerings). Is Green Goddess the type of place one could stop in and have a drink at the bar, or not really?
