Hibachi Buffet, NNJ?

I've seen these pop up from time to time in other states. Usual buffet suspects, plus a counter where you assemble raw materials that are then cooked up fresh by some feller usually in a chef getup.

There appears to be a chain, based in the South I believe, Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet, that has been at the forefront of opening these types of places. There's one near a relative of me in PA, and they're thinking of opening another. They allegedly also opened somewhere in SNJ, near 295.

I remember one from a few years ago in North Bergen in that same shopping center with the multiplex straight off the 495; being NJ, it had a decent selection of items popular with Latinos.

Any hints about these coming to the North?

Hot Dogs - Easton to Allentown

I'd rather have thick, meaty chili than Y***o's pastey sauce, and I can go right down the street from their Catasauqua Road, Allentown/Bethlehem border location to Dad's Hot Dogs in the Shoppers' Village at Catty and Pennsylvania Avenue for that kind of dawg.

Seriously: baking Goya frozen tostones

OK, they should fit on a sheet. How hot for the oven?

Seriously: baking Goya frozen tostones

I made the mistake of picking up a package of these... I don't even know how long ago... along with other Goya stuff I've since eaten... I don't even want to do them in a fry pan... I don't mind coating them with a little oil as long as they can be MWd...

Seafood on 7th St, Allentown?

The other week I was out near 7th and Tilghman, and spotted a seafood place on the east side of 7th.

I didn't have the time to investigate further, as I had to get back to the Easton area. From what I saw, at the very least they offered take-out from a store-front window... couldn't tell if they also did eat-in.

The listings sites mention a seafood market in that area, Atlantic Seafood at 621 N 7th. Could they have expanded to offer hot food?

Shorter name for this type of restaurant?

Contextual error. You've been in Chinese places where the featured items are pictorially represented over the counter? And, in enough cases, in the menu? That's what these Mexican places do. I wish I could attach pictures to back up my observations.

And, there's a [really tiny] inscription in the lower left corner of the menu brochure, which refers to a company that printed the menu. This inscription has both Chinese and English lettering, and the phone number is in NYC.

Shorter name for this type of restaurant?

My question is about these Mexican places that appear to be managed by Asians, given that at least one of the staff is Asian, the place has large pictures of selected menu items not unlike at a Chinese place, and the printed menu bears noticeable similarities to those of Chinese places.

I used to encounter a bunch of these in NY/NJ, and just in the last week or so one opened near my folks' hometown in PA.

Is there a shorter, hopefully-not-derogatory name for a place like this?

'fess up, "i'm a hog when it comes to eating ____ ."

PASTA. Unless the sauce is alfredo.

Soy burrito A.B.*

*After Burritoville, where can I find an item even partially similar to their Mega-Soy Burrito (tempeh, tofu 'crema,' tofu 'cheese,' rice, beans, guac)
Thx

Country Buffet, SI

Neither. In a shopping center on Forest Ave near Decker, just off exit 12 of the 440.

Little Italy, AND Pizza, AND the Yanks

I went to San Gennaro in 2006, and found a place where folks stood up at a counter, munched on slices, and watched the Yankees game on YES. I do remember having to go up a few steps to enter the place.

I wish I could remember its name. Anybody know where I mean?

Country Buffet, SI

How long ago did it close?

KFC Chipotle Chicken

I hope this is just an isolated incident...the few times I've been to the Colonel, the flavoured items such as Hot Boneless Wings have been adequately flavoured. Still, I don't think this is going to get me to try it...

CiCis Pizza?

Was just there last week, of course during the midday there will be waits and seating will be at a premium but it looked as though all the items were being kept up as well as could be expected...this is an area where buffets have been for a while now so it shouldn't be too hard for the workers to understand. I don't quite get having TVs there, you'd think the main attraction would be the food.

Tomatoes

Hell Flying No, and in fact here in the Northeast, NJ,NY,PA are all on the safe list, so this should be taken care of, like...right now?

Central Ave. festival, Jersey City, Sat?

Festival itself is from Hutton to South, but I surmise everybody in that stretch between the two parks is involved in some way.

Any standouts in that area?

CiCi's Pizza Buffet

Offer a buffet built around pizza.

Pizza Hut's (where available) has not only multiple thin-crust regular-type pizzas, but also usually-fruit-covered dessert thin-crust, breadsticks (with garlic-parm topping and cinnamon-sugar), cavatini pasta topped with mozzarella, and a noticeable salad bar (I prefer the caesar)

Is Kinara in Edgewater too far out of your way? Great view...

CiCi's Pizza Buffet

The only reason they did it is that P. Hut did (never mind that they're in FAR, FAR fewer locations, and won't tell you on the .com whether a location has one...)

Cici's Pizza Buffet

>>i don't understand what these ads are for<<

To drive people batty, so they eventually convince THE MEDIA to cover them properly, so they don't have to spend so !@#$% much on advertising...

Two different ways to get the boards listing...why?

If 'boards' is clicked at the top, it opens a pulldown of sorts with a listing, whereas if it's clicked at the bottom, it goes to a separate page. This can get confusing, because if the former option is used, and one tries to use the Back button in the browser, it goes back to... whatever page on which the pulldown was clicked, without the pulldown! Wouldn't it make more sense for the link on the top to go to the separate page?

Ovaltine and older folks?

Carnation really, truly, actually made, and continues to make, albeit on a limited scale, chocolate-flavoured malted-milk powder. You may need to order it in case lots, however...

Diet Apple Snapple?

UPDATE: I never heard from Snapple.

Are there through-the-internet retailers that ship Snapple to you? I keep thinking hometownfavorites.com did, but wanted to make sure.

Conway's BBQ (Orlando FL) comes to Allentown

Was just to the new Conway's BBQ in 31st St, SW just off Lehigh St not real far from Brass Rail.

I think I had visited the bldg under a previous incarnation, which was quite a few years ago (they did BBQ too IIRC)

Nice layout, several TVs, the biggest was behind the bar.

If you're at all familiar with their locations in Florida (go to www.conwaysbbq.com if you aren't), the menu is prettymuch the same. I tried the half-chicken, falls off the bone as ever, they came with three sauce pitchers but I'm not the type to smother...

Chicken Delight Still The Best Fried Chicken In The Tri State [moved from Tristate board]

(This new page design is FUNK-KEY...)

I've been to their website www.chickendelight.ca , that jingle is enough to give you nightmares...

Still I'd /love/ to get back to Jersey City just to visit their locations in Bergen Square or Central Avenue...

Do they do fish here in the metropolitan, or is that strictly a Canadian thing?
