Houston area restaurants
Wow!! A big thank you to everyone who posted replies! I just got back from my trip and unfortunately was struck down by a stomach bug just prior to flying out, so I only got to go out for one night. The people trying to hire my husband took us to DeMarcos and we had some really lovely Italian food. We have since accepted the company's offer so we'll be coming back to Houston on house hunting trips, so these suggestions will come in very handy - barring any more nights of puking of course!
Houston area restaurants
hey thanks! One more question - is Houston known for any particular type of food? Seattle is mostly known for its vast quantity of good Asian restaurants so that's getting kind of old. Also, where are some of your favorite places to eat?
Houston area restaurants
Hubby and I are going to be in Houston on a scouting trip next weekend for a few days and could use some pointers on where to eat so we're not stuck eating at our hotel for every meal. We're going to be at the Westin on 5060 W. Alabama. We're from the Seattle area, so we know very little about regional cuisine. Hubby and I prefer casual, quiet restaurants, we appreciate a good bottle of wine or decent beer selections and since my birthday will be in the middle of the trip, Hubby wants to find some place kinda romantic.
We're not afraid of spicy food, but I would prefer not to have my tongue return from the trip as a blackened, smoking stump! I've heard a lot about Texas barbecue, so I'd love to try it. Any suggestions would be very helpful!
Lincoln City Recs
Hi oregongirl! I've been to Tidal Raves before but not with kids, so I wasn't sure if it was okay to bring them this time. Thanks for the info.
Sadly saying goodbye to breakfast at Affairs
Well, I've said good things in the past about the breakfast menu at Affairs in University Place, but the last time I was there, they had changed their menu, possibly hired a different chef, and most of the changes ARE NOT GOOD.
My favorite french toast entree (perfectly fried baguette slices with apricot sauce and pecans) is gone - replaced instead with soggy baguette pieces covered in a slick, candy-like lemon sauce. It is in fact, quite reminiscent of the lemon filling you get in a lemon 'jelly' doughnut. Ugh.
The new breakfast sandwich is very bland - it is your basic egg, bacon, cheese combo on a bakery roll. It seriously could use something like sweet-hot mustard to liven it up. The homefries now instead of being good sized pieces of red potato are diced so small they are actually hard to pick up. The sides of bacon and sausage have also shrunk in portion, but not in price - much like the rest of the menu. Breakfast for myself, DH and our two kids (ages 4 & 1.5) ran us $50.
Lincoln City Recs
Hi all,
I'm going to be spending 5 days in a beach house in LC that is furnished but does not have a stocked kitchen. I really don't want to have to port too much food down there - I've already got two kids in tow! Does anyone know if there are good bakeries, wine shops, cheese shops etc.? Also, if you have recs for restaurants that are family friendly that would be great!
And yes, I ran a search and read up on some of the topics, but more specificity please! Thanks so much!
Desperately seeking sushi in Tacoma (report)
I am not a sushi connosseur (sp?) but my sister is and claims that the hole in the wall place I Love Bento has quite good sushi. It may not be up to Seattle standard, but she liked it quite a bit. It's tucked into the Mildred and 19th street shopping center next to Fred Meyer.
