Just got back from a 4 night stay...

Thanks for the great review. I have been wondering about Public House as the menu looks really interesting. Went to Jaleo last year so China Poblano is going on my list for those lobster tacos.

End of August 2011 trip report

4th Trip this year-trying different places-thoughts?

My sister and I went to Comme Ca year ago. I also liked the look of the menu and I had the skate and she the salmon. The food was fine but not amazing with her salmon over cooked slightly. It is possible we misordered as everyone around us were enjoying their steaks. The place is noisy and the service is fantastic. The next night we went to Jaleo and had fun making our many choices in our room beforehand off a printed menu. Some were hits and some didn't live up to my expectations. It is fun, you get to sample lots of small plates, and once again the service is amazing. Our server told us that there is no wrong or right way to order, whatever we wanted.....we started off with a few plates and a glass of Sherry and then ordered as we liked. It was a fun experience.

Favorite ways to use up a giant bunch of cilantro?

I use cilantro to make my chimichurri. Lots of cilantro, garlic, red pepper flakes to taste, salt, and oil. Great with grilled meat, Italian sausage, sliced tomatoes, or bread.

Deciding between Mesa Grill, Spago, and Mon Ami Gabi... NEED HELP!!!

We had reservations at Mesa Grill 8 years ago for my birthday. After looking at the menu we left and ate at Spago. The food was very good but the restaurant was very quiet and formal. On the other hand Mon Ami Gabi is fun, lively, and the scallops and chicken Frites are fantastic. The outdoor seating is a bonus but I usually eat at the bar.

What do I do with these cocktail onions?

Add butter if needed? Of course it's needed.

Upscale lounges / bars for a Friday afternoon

I love the bar at Mon Ami Gabi at Paris. The drinks are great and you have the view of the dancing waters across the strip at Bellagio.

NorCal Hound w/kids heading to Disneyland: critique my plan!

Thanks so much for the info. The sausage sounds great. I just discovered your blog and am really enjoying reading about all the different places to eat in the area.

NorCal Hound w/kids heading to Disneyland: critique my plan!

Hello DU. I really enjoy your reviews. I too live in Anaheim and am two minutes from Pinoy Fiesta. What do you recommend besides the breakfast? And what is a Filipino breakfast?

Jaleo-Keep your Shoes off the Furniture

The Pollo Croquetas were in a paper cone inserted inside the shoe. Lighten up people! It was noisy and the food was perhaps not worth the money, but it was fun and the service was outstanding. Donnie W, our waiter, is truly an asset. I asked Donnie what the rules were concerning ordering and how the food would be brought out and he responded with "There are no rules. You tell me what you want." The Papas Arrugas were good even if they are just tiny, wrinkled potatoes.

If one HAD to pick a buffet in Vegas...

Thank you, JK. I live for salads......and potato chips and nuts and vodka.....oh hell, I live to eat.

If one HAD to pick a buffet in Vegas...

Thank you, Monku.

If one HAD to pick a buffet in Vegas...

I love a great buffet but I'm all about the vegetables, potatoes, and mostly the prepared salads. I don't give a whit about the carving board but love Chinese selections and a fabulous Creme Brulee. Does The Cosmopolitan have prepared salads (slaws, potato salads, macaroni salads, vegetable salads, roasted potatoes, salad bar perhaps?) in addition to the meats?

What does your Thanksgiving menu look like?

Oh, yes. Your menu sounds perfect. I'm stealing it.

What's Your Favorite Food Movie?

And speaking of Meryl Streep, It's Complicated is a fabulous food movie.

Vegetarian bbq?

I am a vegetarian and those are my thoughts exactly. I don't want your meat juices on my food. I love grilled vegetable quesadillas and the cheese can provide the protein. Guacamole, sour cream, salsa....yum. And the side dishes are endless.

Eating with Non-CH's

I love your response.

Your Favorite thing to make with coconut milk (savory please, no sweets)???

I put it in my creamy vegetable soup/chowder (lots of potatoes and corn) and add some canned chipotle for flavor/heat.

Holiday Potato Salad: Easy, Different

When I nuke mine, I use uniformly sized potatoes and zap for 2 minutes, let sit,
rotate position of potatoes and zap for another 2 mins, etc until they feel soft but not too mushy. I like my potatoes a little on the firm side. It really depends on the size of the potatoes.

Need inspiration: What are your favorite dips to serve with veggies?

We all love dill dip. So much better than Ranch in my opinion.

Side dish rec's for grilled strip steaks w/chimichurri

My ex is from Argentina and whenever we had asado it was mostly meat--beef, chicken, sweetbreads, intestines. We always started with grilled Italian sausage on crusty bread with some chimichurri. Sometimes we would have sliced tomatoes dressed with oil and tons of garlic whirred up in the blender. Another favorite was boiled little red potatoes with the same garlic dressing with lots of cilantro added. Don't forget lots of bread.

Sweetbreads! I need sweetbreads!

I would check any of the Mexican meat markets. We used to buy all of our meat in Santa Ana on First St. I was married to an Argentinean and we loved to grill sweetbreads, intestines, chicken, Italian sausage, beef, beef, and more beef.

Sweetbreads! I need sweetbreads!

grilled sweetbreads can be found at any of the Gaucho Grille restaurants. That's the way they do them in SLO.

I still don't know what ISO means. I'm sure someone will enlighten me.

Your Avatar..does it sum up who you are?

A rose by any other name....
Nah, it doesn't sum me up. I was just happy to finally figure out how to upload the avatar and had several pictures from which to choose. I thought the rose was the prettiest. I am very interested in the screen names, also. Sometimes I read the name and think I can figure out the avatar and then am surprised when I see the larger picture.

Justified or just greed?

Yes, that is a good point. I was actually put off more by the presumption, and pastry634's agreement, that foodies are more inclined to share and non foodies are not. Like I said, I am all about the food and I don't like to share. I guess it has something to do with my childhood, like having to clean my plate. Maybe if I did share I wouldn't be so fat.

Justified or just greed?

Perfectly stated, Leonardo.
