Picnic Garden in Edison - Korean BBQ all you can eat
I went last Thursday. I am no expert on Korean bbq, so I'll have to take my korean friend's word when he says that it was worth the price we paid (25/person for dinner). The major difference is that there is no kaibi during lunch.
If you enjoy korean meat, then you'll like the restaurant. There's a variety of proteins to choose from (pre-marinated and non-marinated) as well as a few cooked items. Seeing as I am a college guy, I mainly went for the kaibi. Actually, that ended up being about 95% of my food intake during the night. Other things that were there were: a couple of soups, rice (white and purple), fried fish, fried crabs, candied yams, boiled corn, dumplings, and mostly things that you would add with the bbq (cloves of garlic, cucumber, picked daikon, kimchi, soybean paste, ect ect.)
Note: they do not have tongs and scissors for each table...apparently people were breaking them or something. Also, there is no desert except for the candied yams.

Just a quick FYI i think the restaurant's open now. My friend just told me that he went there for lunch. Apparently the pictures were right; lunch 15 dinner 25
Flakey Tart - Atlantic Highlands.
Wow...haven't been back here in a while. School has pretty much owned my life. Anyways, hoping that they're open on thursday...if anyone sees Marie in the next two days, tell her I'll hopefully be stopping by and ransacking her place =)
What's the plan for restaurant week?
Went to dB bistro for lunch and Megu tribeca for dinner on monday.
DB: was ok...For app, my friend had the salad and thought it was overtly bland. I had the beef consume and thought that it was very warming (it was snowing that day). For entrees, we both had the fish course. Bad mistake on my part...I guess I really can't handle all the cream in that french food. For desert, I got the chocolate three ways and my friend got the panna cotta. We were both pretty confused. For the panna cotta, there was a lemon sorbet that overpowered the panna cotta. For me, the three chocolate deserts tasted too similar and had a very, very..acid? syrup sauce on the side (in my opinion)
Megu, on the other hand, was a totally different experience. For the appetizer, I opted for the sashimi salad (bland, ordinary), while my friend got "today's special": eel with a honey mustard dipping sauce. The eel was absolutely lovely. For entrees, we both got the kobe beef. Mine was cooked a little too medium for my taste and was a bit tough. Desert was..as expected. Not good, but not bad. However, we were very happy with the service. Also, even though the place was packed, we were given a spicy tuna roll compliments of the chef (a BIG plus in my book). Also, we ordered the skirt steak on the warm rock. Absolutely delicious. We also had a "diamond" roll which went very well with the wasabi. Overall, Megu was the highlight of the day
Megu RW: Kobe with French Fries?
I'm also curious as to why your kobe came with fries...mine had this starchy ball of something that I couldn't really identify. Asked the waiter (at the Tribeca area) and they said that Megu in tribeca wasn't serving lunch anymore =(
The Flakey Tart - OMG-My Review!
I kept a slice of my key lime tart as a pet for...oh say...4 months
was nice and furry by the end of it
in other news, while I was in France, went to a pastry place that Marie suggested and was wowwwed, to say the least.
I am certainly looking foward to going back, but that two hour drive is keeping me from going =/

An update on our travel situation:
So, it looks as if the number of people going has ballooned up to 6, so its going to be quite...interesting...to say the least
We're going to split our trip into two sections: one half for London and one half for Paris. Also, one of my friends (who goes to CIA) is joining us, so he's looking for one or two.. "moderately" priced restaurants (originally wanted to go to Gordon Ramsey's restaurant); So, i guess the circumstances have changed, the budget has gone up a bit, but the demographic has remained the same!
Flakey Tart - Atlantic Highlands.
Went back on Thursday. Got a cake for my friend's birthday--that thing was a thing of cuteness beauty...even if it got alittle beat up during transit
hey, I was trying to make my class on time =P
before and after pictures (bloody mess...)
Vacherin du Mont d'Or & other cheeses [split from College student visiting London]
how would this vacherin compare to say...delice d'argengal? More or less soft/creamy in texture
thanks for all the site reviews...
the breakfast one sends me reeling though...perhaps they just give a bad couple of reviews...all of which I read.

lol I'm not from manhatten...i dunno where you guys got that from (maybe my posts????) but I'm pretty open to anything
I would like to try some 'classic' english grub (or as classic as it will get)
definately will want to get my fill of fish n chips while i'm there
I guess my budget would be about $60 per day at most (for food) hopefully it'll boil down to about $40, but I know that even with this budget its very, very ideal
I personally dont drink, but I know that my friends might have a pint
harters: you definately answered the tipping/service charge questions thats been bugging me
moto: thanks for the suggestions
I'm planning on hitting up the Tate and Tate modern, probably a performance or two, and some of the markets...except for that, I dont have much yet
College student visiting London
Well, I know that this is probably one of the worst times to plan a vacation to London, and even worse being that I have the budget of a college student. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to any good, cheap eats...i'll let you decide which adjective to use.
Plus, any suggestions as to any good eats near touristy places (museums and such)? The trip is going to be in mid-May, if that changes any suggestions...
Thanks in advance

It's a good thing that I don't live near there as well...or all my money would go to them!
In the end, I did not end up getting to taste the strawberry cake...it was all gone by the time I got back.
The grand marnier chocolate cake was RICH! I took a small piece and boy was chocolaty!
The tarts were good, but I learned not to leave them out for a day.
My friends are still raving about the macaroons though...those seem to be the star

Well...I was going to post later, since I'm in class right now, but I figured I would explain how I bought out half the bakery (as shesallthat mentioned) =D
Pictures will come in my next post later tonight.
I was actually looking foward to the mac and cheese! But, as I only had 10 minutes to get in and out, I could not wait for it.
I bought a chocolate cake for my roommate, since he had class.... (It's so pretty!)
Then I got a strawberry heart cake for one of my friends, to which she said "yumm i tried it. yayy flaky tart. thanks!" haha she looked so happy when she saw it.
Then...another key-lime tart pie (my friends love it), a baker's dozen of the macaroon's, 20 cookies, a pain au chocolat, one of the raspberry hearts (thanks for the suggestion shesallthat!), a ham and gruyere crossant, a pastry that was the block version of the raspberry hearts, 3 chocolate tarts, and 3 lemon meringue tarts. It took two people to get all that out of the door! But...I'm pretty sure these are going to disappear within the next 24 hours!

Thanks for the suggestion
Fortunately, I had put the number in my phone =D

I hope they offer on the spot-decorating!...i was going to go there today, but the weather has been very shoddy lately
Does anyone know if they take credit? I really really do not want to go to the bank in this weather...
Ramen Setagaya (らーめん せたが屋) 1st Ave (btw 8 & 9)
Went to setegaya on Friday...
pretty salty shio--not necessarily bad thing, but given that I'm more inclined to salty foods-and I found it a tad (just a tad) bit on the salty side-means something (at least in my books)
There was no line when I went (12:15 PM). Pretty standard dish. Mine came out pretty hot, which I enjoyed. Overall I enjoyed it since it was freezing outside. Something hot in the stomach is always a good feeling. Probably not the best food I have tasted, and I still think Rai Rai Ken was better, but there are many factors. I was with family and it was more of a festive environment, so I was not as critical on the food. Overall satisfying, but I probably would not be able to bring friends.
Flakey Tart - Atlantic Highlands.
Went to flaky tart today...actually...whole day was more or less based on flaky tart...
My friends and I traveled all of 50 minutes, and it was worth every grueling minute trying to find the little bakery.
I couldn't believe how small the bakery was! But, since we got there at 2, there wasn't many options left. However, I did manage to get myself a pain au chocolat. When I read the posts, I just did a literal translation in my head, so I was expecting this big slab of chocolate bread. Needless, the pain was very nicely made. Flaky, not too buttery, not too overpowering. That added with a coffee made my after-lunch "meal" all the better. My friend got the key-lime tart as a Superbowl dessert for our neighbors (I'm a college student). Two friends got the scones, which looked delicious, but I wasn't in the mood to eat such a big scone. We ended up getting another key-lime tart pie for ourselves...at which point I conveniently told them our trek to the bakery. Maria the bakeress came out to greet us. Really friendly! I was amused at how homely this bakery was. It convinced us to buy a bag of cookies, a brownie, and ham and gruyere crossiant (I forwarded this thread to one of my friends and he demanded that we get him the croissant) to go. Then, as we were about to walk out, they gave us complimentary cookies and carrot cake mini-cupcakes! Amazing service. They definately made lifelong customers! We're probably going back there before Valentine's to get at least 2 chocolate cakes from them.
Where to eat for a college group
im sure my group is pretty much open to anything
none of them are eliciting any responses as to where to go...
so i'm just trying to come up with some places to go
i mean...might as well be full if we're walking around doing nothing
Where to eat for a college group
thanks for the comments
i was wondering (besides the LES food tour) if there were any other suggestions as to where to go?
Where to eat for a college group
do you think it would be better if we headed to momofuku?
Where to eat for a college group
So, as the free transit period approaches, a bunch of my friends and I (hopefully the group will be around 10 people...anything more and it'll probably be unreasonable to stay together) are heading up to NYC for the day. Was wondering if you guys had any suggestions of where to go. Everyone in the group is under 21. Some places I'm thinking about (will probably take another day trip to go to see some of these places)
1. Pommes Frittes
2. City Bakery (chocolate drinks?)
3. Sakae Sushi--thinking it may be a fun place to stop by and check out)
4. Rai Rai Ken?
I'm looking for some places that are nice and small...not too big or cluttered
(last year the group split and people ended up eating at TGIF (with two other guys, I went to get some chicken&rice)
This time, I was hoping for a more...cozy feeling to the trip? Also, budget will probably be tight...just concentrate on the "college" part.
Any suggestions are welcome. This group is probably going to be all Chinese, so we probably will head towards Chinatown first (new years and all) but we have lots of time to explore.
Thanks
