STEAK...but not a steak house
I am wanting a steak tonight. But I do not want to mess with a steak house and I really do not want to go anywhere near Union Square area.
A Place with more than just one steak, but not a menu with all steaks.
Thank you in advance. Oh and in SF please
American Bistro...Richmond or Sunset...near the park
looking for a moderately priced, but yummy American Bistro style place near GG park. some nice app and entree' offerings in a reasonable price. maybe even a good cocktail list....something aside from a list of Martini's
thank you in advance!

Eastern Standard would be a great option.

well if steak the fisr thing that comes to mind it MOO, mainly cause of that private wine cage area. the other place that comes to mind in sonsie cause they have that cool wine private area as well.
28 degrees, I have been to a birthday party there where we had the far lounge for apps and cocktails, but then went to the large community table in the middle section for sit down dinner. that may be too trendy/night club/loud
I have not been to Johnnys , formally anthem, so I can not speak to their food or how their event staff is since they are new, but I had been to many private functions at anthem and the space for it is awesome!
are you open to ethnic options, or wanna stick with American style?
tell me...WHAT is wrong with the Barking Crab?
My sister apparently ate there last summer. and she is DYING to eat there this summer as well when she visits. I am curious as I can not remember how long ago it was that I ate there.
What exactly is wrong with the place? and when did you have this experience? I always read the complaints but not sure WHAT they are (aside from the guys who discovered the kitchen closed early) . I am going to have to go there. what should I be warned about? and maybe I can convince her otherwise....
Going to Mohegan Sun, need restaurant recommendation
SAP115, that is a great option. not the pub one but the bar area of MJ. depending on how many of you, that is a great option.
glad to know I am not alone on Todd English's place!

classy with all of that may be hard.
Questions for you: do you want a sit down dinner? or are you open to a mix of apps and then if people want more they can order on their own? this would not be formal seating but lounge seating?
what are you envisioning? a gathering area with light food and cocktails, fallowed by a sit down dinner where people order on their own?
what day of the week and time? To ask a kitchen to pump out 20 dishes at one time for one table, will determine the time you can eat. not many kitchens can handle that during peak eating hours.
define classy a bit more. Formal? trendy? just not a dive?
I have alot of places in mind, but please define for me.
thanks
Fried chicken and waffle at Lucky's Oh my!
I have had it both with gravy, a maple gravy and with just syrup. i prefer the syrup. I guess I eat a few bites of chix and then dunk the waffle bite.
ok drooling again. has anyone been to check it out?
Going to Mohegan Sun, need restaurant recommendation
I am pretty sure Craft is going into the New MGM Grand at Foxwoods
Going to Mohegan Sun, need restaurant recommendation
mohegan is rough I feel.I actually go there about 8-12 times a year and often for more than one night, so I have sampled what that place has to offer.
I actually really like the MJ steak house. http://www.mohegansun.com/dining/mj_steakhouse.jsp
That is where I tend to go. it is $$$$ , they have a bar that is less $$$ next door to it. http://www.mohegansun.com/dining/23_sportcafe.jsp
I am not a huge fan of the Todd English place. I LOVE the waterfall thing, but overall..."eh" feeling when I have ate there. to be honest after 3 attempts and still feeling just kinda "eh" I stick to MJ

I have been the the "fine dinning" Chinese place, and although some of the items are cool and actually authentic, I would not call it fine dinning. I find that it really caters to the Asian tourist and people who come for a day or night. I have found it to be good, just wouldn't call it "fine dinning". The snails are YUM!

I think summer shack might be your best option. fun, food, casual, not to $$$. but I dont know if that is what you are going for. it may be too casual
http://www.mohegansun.com/dining/summer_shack.jsp
I like the cove, but I have always found it to feel like a really cool sizzler. alot of bars, salad bars, fish bar, noodle bar

I have not been to Birches yet, it is the newest place. I have heard from people that it is good American comfort food. I do plan to try it next time I am there. because I have not been I can not really advise on it, but I think that may be a really good option. from what I am told it does not look casual. and is one of the more modern in decor'
the Luckys there is not the same food as the one here, pizza and salads I think . but fun for drinks and the row sham bow contest! ultra 88 is the club and there is an "irish pub" as well.
report back.
overall, in my experience, if you get there and scope out a place, it will not be hard to get a reservation, even for a large group. just book it a few hours ahead of time.
Eats and Treats? crepe, anyone been?
I am heading to Brighton/Allston tonight.
I had heard that the savory crepes at Eats and Treats were really good. can anyone confirm?
or provide another option for Allston dining?
I am a crepe freak, especially savory crepe's!
Spring 2008 openings and closings
Oh I recall why, I am on the email list too
Before they were what they are(were) now, they were more of a market, technically and legally defined as a market.
then they switched to the restaurant style , well they forgot to adjust the tax structure in their POS system to reflect the restaurant and not a market....and it took a few years for that 5%tax to add up and for the MA dept. of revenue to also find out.....
MAJOR tax bill. they were trying to sell shares (basically a membership fee) in order to pay the tax bill. I dont think many people went for it.
sorry to be off food topic, but that is what happened!
Fried chicken and waffle at Lucky's Oh my!
YES!
it is no secret that in general I have been a fan on their food, but seriously, THIS was worth logging on and typing about. SO FREAKING GOOD....and besides, where else can you get fried chicken and a waffle????....if you know of some where tell me... asap
Fried chicken and waffle at Lucky's Oh my!
So last night I head into Luckys to have a burger or something and a beer or two. I see that on the new menu they have fried chicken and a waffle. Being a true southerner I had to order it.
OH MY! it was beyond good. The chicken was perfectly moist and flavourful. the fried skin was seasoned with a very corn flake like breading and wonderful herbs with a little almost chili kick to it. The waffle was very nice, a little crispy but not over cooked, however it could have been a bit warmer.
The lavender maple syrup was a great addition and a great way to calm the spice of the chicken.
there was mashed potato on the plate as well, however I did not need that as I ate every bite of the chicken and waffle.
It was amazing! and I may even return tonight for another one!
Who has the Best peanut Sauce?
I am a peanut sauce lover and I am trying to find the best one in a store or restaurant in Boston metro area.
Mushroom tasting menu?
not a tasting menu but at KO they have a large list of a variety of Mushrooms as side dishes. Then again that was 6 months ago.
If you find one PLEASE let us know where
Humboldt Fog - where in Greater Boston?
I too am a former Humboldt County resident (strange to find ANY others in Boston!) and I do love Humboldt Fog. I find it to be a wonderful standard. the creamy texture to me is fab.
as a note, when I have gone into Formaggio, either one, and I ask for it the often roll their eyes and scuff. then offer something they consider to be better as to say Humboldt fog is not good enough to be in this store. I have never been able to actually get it in their store.
I always take they suggestion of the alternative and I do always enjoy it.
however there are times when my cravings scream Fog with a great baguette, minus the snotty attitude that presume I dont know a thing about cheese
Looking for a fish market in Boston Area
Im gonna throw another option out there. although I agree with New Deal
The fish pier in South Boston. my fav things about it
1. always that days, nothing left over from the day before
2. the deliver the raw stuff!
3. you can call them two days in advance (for a party your size, one day for house hold dinner) and tell them what you want and how many, they go down every morning and pick out FRESH stuff. so they will simply pick up what you need as well.
Sullivan's at Castle Island
don't forget the soft serve ice cream. I have a hard time finding soft serve anywhere and they have a great one!
What's your favorite neighborhood spot?
I live on the border
so
in the SE I have to agree with Coda and early in the week I like sitting at the bar at petit robert
in Southie I am now hugely addicted to St. Alphonzo's however beer and wine only and not a bar
Shabu Shabu help
Thank you everyone.
i think we are going to try Kaze. I will be sure to report back!
Shabu Shabu help
Hello
I want to take a few people to Shabu Shabu tomorrow night. one of them does not eat beef or seafood. so I am looking for GOOD of course, but also more than beef as the meat option or a Shabu Shabu place that also serves other Japanese food.
in the Metro Boston and surrounding areas please.
Thank you in advance. I am still reading thru all the forums that came up in my Shabu Shabu search!
Brunch (jazz?) for 12+ Boston/Metrowest
I think Beehive does brunch now, have not been. don't know.
Lucky's does a Sinatra Brunch, very reasonable, quiet on sundays(not crowded) good food. and in the lounge you can have it private. the stairs and location may be an issue.
Noise may be the biggest issue
