Dining recommendations in Miami/South Beach
I just want to chime in that we went to Fratelli Lyon last month and had the most horrible experience!! We had a reservation for 6 people for 10pm made days in advance. After waiting 15 minutes we were offered to sit in the hallway where only apps and drinks are served until the table would be ready. We were starving and sat in the hallway. We order drinks and a 3 or 4 apps. The waiter brought out some of the drinks and 2 apps (did I mention we were starving) about 20 minutes after we sat. No plates, no forks, no silverware. The waiter and other drinks and apps where no where to be found. What we ate was not particularly good or memorable. We couldn't get any help, the manager didn't care, the hostess, didn't care, the waiters didn't care, and I am pretty sure the owner My. Lyon himself didn't care. By this time it was 10:45 and we really had eaten some olives and cheese and we still had no table. We decided better to get out there before we invested any more time and money. We begged to get our check which took even more time. It was 11:00 pm and we left without eating and if my memory serves me correctly I don't think we ever drank anything either!! We left and had Tacos at about 11:30 on Biscayne in the 70s cant remember the place - but very yummy and NO WAIT!!
Multi Generational Birthday Dinner in Broward/North Dade
My dad's 63rd birthday is coming up, we want to take him to dinner, with the family including grandkids - 7 people in all. Looking for something in the South Broward/North Dade area for an early Sunday night dinner. My kids dont need a kids menu, but the place cant be un-child friendly. We are picky - we like good food :)
Please feel free to make recs!!
Thanks!!
DC Family Friendly - Penn Quarter
We are back from trip and I thought I'd report on the restaurants we visited for anyone needing future info.
Valentines Evening we ate at Tony Chengs - not the Mongolian Buffet - but upstairs with a regular Chinese menu. We only waited 15 minutes, but it was packed. Kids and hubby loved it - so big hit. We hit TangySweet and Red Velvet for dessert. Cupcakes were yummy - nothing spectacular - but husband was annoyed that each cupcake was 3.25. Tangy Sweet was delicious!! Love the pomegranate flavor.
Hit Teaism for breakfast - great concept - but thought it was mediocre. Oatmeal was yummy, homemade granola tasted burnt. Kids enjoyed french toast. Eggs were OK.
Also visited Chinatown Express for the Noodles that my kids were dying to check out as they saw the noodle guy in the window and thought it was soo cool. The kids loved the noodles with chicken. Hubby got sweet and sour chicken and didnt eat it. Dumplings were OK. I ordered noodles with veggies - I thought it was sooo oily and icky and couldn't eat it - I went back to TangySweet - more pomegranate yogurt for me!!
We also did a lunch at Nandos Peri Peri - kids enjoyed the chicken - hubby thought Pollo Tropical makes a better chicken.
Our absolute hands down favorite meal was Founding Farmers. Everything was delicious!! Hubby got chicken and waffles, kids got the sliders with mac & cheese, I got a salad and flat bread. We all enjoyed the cornbread app. I could have eaten there every day. maybe next trip I will!!
Never made it to Zaytinya - checked out the amazing space - but it really did not look like a place to take a pair of tired and possibly crabby kids - so we bailed.
We had a great trip !!! Its was high paced and lots of fun!!!
Thanks to all for suggestions!!
DC Family Friendly - Penn Quarter
Thanks so much everyone for all your amazing suggestions!! I have been downloading menus half the evening and I am starving!! Making a great dining plan!!
DC Family Friendly - Penn Quarter
Hey there Chowhounders,
I am taking my kids for a last minute trip to DC and need some help with restaurants, especially Sat night which is Valentines Day. We want to be able to eat out at a decent place without all the prefix Valentines hoopla. Any suggestions, we are Staying in Penn Quarter, but will be near Cap Hill in the late afternoon.
I also need some breakfast recs for Penn Quarter. Something healthy and not greasy preferred.
I have a res at Zaytinya for Monday night, but need a place to eat on Sunday night. My kids are great eaters - no kids meals are necessary - but I also don't like paying for $20 an entree for them either.
Any help is appreciated!!
Breakfast near Times Square area towards Javits Center
Hi, I need help with 3 breakfasts for early mornings next week (sun, Mon, Tues.) We would love to go to something like Sarabeths for one of the mornings, but I think it is too far. Maybe CPS is close enough. We will be attending convention daily. But we enjoy fresh and healthy, not greasy and carb intensive.
Thanks!! Cant wait to freeze my butt off!!
Asian near Lincoln Center
We are 3 30 something ladies coming into town next week and after taking in the 2 pm Mat for South Pacific, we are meeting more ladies for an early dinner close by. Any suggestions for Sushi, Thai, Asian Fusion? Or anything else excellent - we dont want French or Italian.
TIA!!
Veggie in New Orleans - need help with restaurants :)
DH and I are visiting NO in December. It is our first visit in many years - the last visits were back in the day and it was Mardi Gras - when food was not a priority.
I have been reading menus and reviews for a few weeks and still need some help. I have a res at Lilette so far on a Friday night.
I am the problem - I am mostly a vegetarian- I eat fish (not shell fish) and dairy and eggs, but not meat or poultry. I am looking for 2 more dinner reservations (Sat and Sun night) and a Sunday or Sat brunch reservation.
Any suggestions???
TIA!
Birthday Party Dinner Spot Miami Beach North to Las Olas
I am organizing a birthday dinner for my husband's 38th. He has expressed that he wants to invite 25 friends to dinner. The guidelines for the place are good food, moderately priced, and a fun scene with a bar. Nothing quiet, that cant handle a rowdy group! Oh yeah and we want a place that takes reservations too (I know its all a lot to ask!!)
We would like for the location to be anywhere from Miami Beach, Design District north towards Las Olas staying east of the 95 if possible.
Thanks so much for your help in advance!
Toronto wedding party in Bal Harbour, where to go near hotel beach strip?
Not sure if the veggies eat fish but here are some great options.
Sushi Republic on Harding Avenue and 96th Street.
Adriana's also on Harding between 94th and 95th Street (Peruvian with lots of great fish.)
Miami Juice on Collins just south of 163rd Street is great for veggies - very casual juice bar with all kinds of salads, platters, smoothies, etc.

Orlando Recommendations - Universal Studios Visit
The only half way decent food we ate while visiting Universal was at the NBA restaraunt. It was much better than Hard Rock
Yummy Chinese in NorthDade/MiamiBeach
I am new to the boards and maybe someone can help me. I have been living in this area for 12 years and we can not find a decent Chinese restaurant that has continual great quality food and is vegetarian friendly. Most places are very hit or miss. Any suggestions on healthy, grease free, bright green veggies, maybe a little tofu??
