Hello 3 speeds,

We just cam back last night. We went to Boshamps and Flemings for dinner. Boshamps we enjoyed it. Flemings was ok in quality of food and service. Below of the others I have been elsewhere. We stayed at Sterling Shores and used the beach right in front. Ordered some appetizers for the kids at The Back Porch wan were very good. Going over again so let me know your recommendations. We considered going to Mimmos Italian but did not had the time.

First Time Visit From SF to Hong Kong & Singapore

IMHO:Do Man Wah (recommend you try to speak to Rest Mgr. Ricky Chain for a more personalized option rather than their tasting menu);

Reconsider going to Tim Ho Wan for Dim Sum and try to get a spot in Lung King Heen. You would avoid the hassle of waiting in line and going to Kowloon. Nice setting at LKH and good Dim Sum.

I go to Yan Toh Heen every time I'm in HK as well as to Man Wah. I have to admit that Man Wah has the edge but YTH is right behind. The drink at the lobby bar of the Intercontinental is a must specially for the light show.

Enjoy,

V

I went once to Chairman for lunch and did not impressed me at all. Maybe a bad day or wrong selections. A popular with this board to take my advice with a grain of salt. For lunch dim sum consider Lung King Heen (four seasons hotal) Fung Shing, Fook Lam Moon (causeway bay or the legendary Luk Yu Teahouse.

If you are going solo I recommend that you ontact the restaurant beforehand so that they can assist and prepare small portions of different items. I do it all the time at Man Wah and Yan Toh Heen and they do it with pleasure. I would reconsider going to Yardbird when there are so many other options in HK - Enjoy

First Time Visit From SF to Hong Kong & Singapore

Pats,

I strongly recommend to consider Man Wah at the Mandarin Oriental. 7th Son is my next target but during my last visit I did not made it there. Yan Toh Heen in Kowloon should be a good complement. If you can not go there for dinner go to the lobby bar for one of the best views of HK. Tip: Try a New Zealand Pinot Noir called George Michael while watching the view and waiting for your reservation in Yan Toh Heen. For drinks if your are solo I would consider the Grey Bar or The Pawn. For fun + drinks + live music go to Dusk till Dawn in Wan Chai - can't go wrong. Enjoy!

Need a few Recommendations in San Francisco

Thanks for comments ! With all the good reco's received all I need to decide is on an Italian and Chinese dinners. Kids will stay in the hotel. Vulver, bobabear and bbulkow gave me some options which I'm currently exploring. Too many places not much time.

Thanks to all !!

Need a few Recommendations in San Francisco

Thanks Bbulkow,

Correct, I do travel a lot internationally and always like to check the Chowhound board for advise. Very useful when going to almost any Asian big cities. No issues with me taking a cab or exploring places off the beaten path. My only handicap is that I'm travelling with a big family group (in-laws, twin girls age 3, a 9 year old boy and a nanny). This means that probably I can "escape" with my wife for dinner. We are planning to do a Pecking Duck and Chinese dinner one of the nights. We are will to move out of our area if the option deserves. How about the Delis such as Molinari and Lucca? I read about Aziza with good reviews (modern Moroccan). Any other options will be well received such as Korean, Mexican. I will research your Italian and modern cuisine options. We will start the trip in San Diego. Feel free to add any recos on this location.

Thanks,

v

Need a few Recommendations in San Francisco

Hello ALL,

Going for 4 nights to SF staying around Union Square area. A family trip with some limitations. We are looking for a good Chinese option probably outside Chinatown, a good Italian and any other recommendation regardless of the cuisine. Open for anything such as ethnic (Viet, Mexican, etc), fusion, sushi, etc.

Looking forward to your feedback,

Park City Restaurant Recommendation

Hello UT gal,

I just arrived into Atlanta (don't know how) from PC. We had dinner at Vinto last Monday. According to Iphone maps just 352 ft from our location (Park Station). What a nice place!! We really enjoyed and thanks for the recommendation. All the items we ordered were good. The wine reasonable and the atmosphere perfect. We went twice to Butcher's Shop. Vey good also.

Thanks,

V

One Harbour Road Rest. at the Hyatt in HK

Thanks PhilD, Charles and the rest of the Hounds !

I place a reservation for Seventh Son already ! Exactly what I was looking for. For me HK is a moving target. You need to be in the lookout for the next breakout. Better try them sooner than later.

I'm staying at the Conrad, will do Man Wah (M.O.)- Saturday and Yan Toh Heen Sunday - both my favorites and fix items of my rotation. Based on your feedback, I will discard this option and consider instead (The Manor, Fu Shimg, Tai Woo, etc. All I'm looking if for some good Char Siu, Yeung Chow Fried Rice, Dim Sum. What do you think?

Excellent Klyeoh-Very useful !!

The last time I was in Singapore was 18 years ago. I had to cancel this destination 3x already and hopefully this time it might work out. If you have to name three dishes (culinary experience) that I need to try while there and work schedule permitting, what would you recommend. How should I manage a 3 days stay (likely weekend)? Hawkers, little India, arab street fair game as well.

Thanks for all your valuable information.

Regards,

V

PS: went to Diverxo in Madrid to weeks ago. I will tell you later.

Penang - Italian dinner at Mario's, Batu Ferringhi

Hello Klyeoh,

I hope you are doing fine !! I'm going to KL and Singapore mid Nov. for 8-10 days. Could you please send me a link or two of your previous posts that contain a good starting point for me to plan. I'm in the mood of exploring local cuisine. Places to Vishaltchi in Brickfields (I pick it up from one of your previous posts) seems ideal in both cities.

Above and Beyond in Hong Kong

Hello Charles,

I'm in Shanghai going to HK in a few hours. I will do for LKH for dim sum and YTH for dinner. HK Cuisine will be a group lunch. I'm seriously considering going to TLH for dinner and to give it a try. No more planning for my side at this stage except trying to do lunch at the Aberdeen Canteen tomorrow Saturday. The rest will be feel with ad hoc or last minute selection. Planning to visit at least a high end western food rest such as amber, l'atelier, etc. any suggestions. Also, there a whole bunch of new eclectic places that I will consider. For this trip I will play it by ear and see how it goes.

While in Shanghai went to Xibo (xinjiang cuisine) and enjoyed very much. It is very close from the HIlton.

In Amsterdam nothing too exciting to report. Had dinner in District V (Italian). A casual and very popular place for lunch or a light dinner.

Shoot any last minutes ideas for HK? Always welcomed !

V

Above and Beyond in Hong Kong

Hello Charles,

I hope you are doing great ! I'm preparing for a 6 day visit to HK arriving on the 28th of June. It looks like I will have more time and flexibility in the evenings during this business trip (unlike the others). I will like to consult with you on a couple of options that I have never visited such as One Harbour Road, Tim Leung Heen, Ah Yat, Tien Leung Lau and the canteen at the Aberdeen Fish Market.

I will be staying at the new Indigo Hotel in Wanchai this time. We planned already a lunch with local colleagues at Hong Kong Cuisine, my mandatory visit to Yan Toh Heen and Lung King Heen for lunch. The rest is wide open. Also, let me know an informal place for Char Sie. Never been to Joy Hing and can be a candidate. Feel free to add any other reco's to the list.

Best Regards,

v
