Looking for healthy desserts that are tasty

A little butter or oil is not unhealthy but moderation is key and I always use good oils, mainly olive oil. I would also make sure not to use artificial sweeteners and other such things especially while your kids are so young. I understand that you don't want your kids jumping off the walls from a sugar high, but perhaps you could look into using agave nectar? It's a natural sweetener that is absorbed slower into your blood stream, making it suitable for people with diabetes. Agave Nectar actually tastes really great, sort of like a combination of honey and maple syrup and it's sweeter than sugar so you use less.

I have been using this website for good, healthy treats that use whole grain flours. I often substitute agave nectar for honey and they have turned out great.

Kneading dough in stand mixer - first timer, please help!

Hi Sogi,
You said you were trying out a friend's stand mixer to see if it's worth purchasing for bread making but have you thought of purchasing a bread machine instead? If that's the main reason you'd be looking to buy one, a bread machine is a more affordable option. I use mine for making the dough only as I find it still bakes better in an oven than in the machine but it kneads the dough perfectly. It's so easy to just throw the ingredients in the pan and then you can even set the dough to be ready in the morning for when you wake up!

Your best "healthy" banana bread recipe please

No problem. Since you have ready bananas, if you want to try something different the banana spice cake is also one of my favourites. It's in the dessert section and there is also a whole wheat and spelt version for that.

healthy cooking -- cookbooks

Hello,

I too made the decision to eat healthier a couple years ago. I've made the switch to whole grains in all my recipes and I am always trying to add fruit and vegetables into recipes.

This website is a great resource for healthy recipes. Even the dessert recipes have added fruit and vegetables and are all whole grain.

Your best "healthy" banana bread recipe please

Toodie Jane,

This is my favourite banana bread recipe. They have a whole wheat version or a spelt version so you can make whichever one you prefer. I personally love the spelt version.

Snack-a-Licious

I love eating edamame as a healthy snack. I buy the frozen kind, warm them up in the microwave and sprinkle them with a bit of coarse salt (but you don't need to if you're watching your salt intake). It's quick and easy to make but delicious.
