Georgetown Cupcakes - Arriving in the Fall
andrew, out of curiosity, what is your favorite??
Georgetown Cupcakes - Arriving in the Fall
most likely georgetown...closer to where my fam lives in annandale. if the la one happens to open earlier, i'll be looking for ur report!! :)
Georgetown Cupcakes - Arriving in the Fall
sorry, i would've commented in detail had i tried them. i've been wanting to and was looking forward to my next visit to dc in a few months to check them out. utterly excited that they're making their way here!! :D
What to order at Scarpetta?
that polenta is most def a must-get. the spaghetti is the signature dish but i was disappointed both times i had it. the casunzei, if they have it, is pretty delish.
Korean cold spicy noodles?
yu chun is pretty good, tho admittedly i have not been in a long while. ham hung used to be awesome, til they changed owners several yrs ago and everything (esp their neng myun) suffered a great decline :/
Birthday Sushi
if you're interested in sushi and sushi only, i'd say zo or mori. kiyokawa and kiriko are not on the same level IMHO when it comes to strictly sushi.
Sushi Dokoro Kirala - Any thoughts?
went a couple of years ago and was very underwhelmed. as it's not all that cheap, i'd rather save a bit more and go to zo or mori or the like.
Studio (montage) vs Mar'sel (terranea)
Taking the mom out for her other special day and initially had narrowed it down to the following:
WP24
Restaurant at Getty
Studio at the Montage
She enjoys great views more than she does great food so these were the best options I could think of that wouldn't compromise TOO MUCH on the food aspect. I had briefly contemplated adding Mar'sel but the intial reviews I had read were generally negative. However, today, I've read several blogs/reviews that were positive and am now considering between the place and Studio. Mar'sel seems to have an even more spectacular view (solely based on the pictures).... has anyone been to both places and is able to offer their thoughts (both on food and view)?? So very much appreciated!! :)
Alternative to Sushi Zo - warmer atmosphere?
agreed!! i luv both mori and zo but mori is more purist and zo tends to be a bit "saucy" (no pun intended). one thing i do luv more about mori is the rice.
Love those Blue Crab Hand Rolls! Whose are the best?
most def cheers to that!! :D i abs hate it when he doesn't have the yuzu.
Maison Giraud in Pacific Palisades has the greatest croissant in the world
does that mean the croissants are the same as those that were at anisette??
Love those Blue Crab Hand Rolls! Whose are the best?
zo = perfect ratio of crab, mayo, wasabi, rice. i didn't like sushi wasabi's much but then again, i tried it several years back so perhaps it's much improved.
DESPERATE NEED OF FOIE GRAS! Please Help With Restaurants...
i prefer seared myself but ink has a pretty delish cold rendition (foie and waffle).
Restaurant NOMA rated "Best Restaurant in the World" 3 times in a row!
agree w/ foodiemahoodie: hammer19, u didn't say anything wrong and didn't deserve the slight attack for asking a simple question.
hope i can try noma someday!! :)
How's dinner at the Langham, Pasadena?
wholly agree with JackFlash = dining room w/voltaggio was much better than the royce. i actually went w/lowered expectations due to mostly poor reviews, yet still left disappointed. if you're looking for that type of resto, i'd opt for melisse or providence.
REVIEW w/pics: The Chicken and Pork Tacos Did It For Me at Guisados
for heat the rajas wins, hands down :) it also happens to be my fave. it's marinated chiles, i think 6-7 diff types. it's spicy and has great flavor as well. i luv guisados!!
Milo & Olive or Stella Rossa?
IMHO, stella for pizza and m&o for anything else. on a side note, i tried the much touted m street choco chip cookies when i went to stella - was sorely disappointed to say the least. it most def is a ginormous, weighty thing, but the taste and texture had nothing to offer, sadly.
A Croissant from The Bakery Formerly Known as "The Buttery"
maison giraud is in LA, pacific palisades.

Champong..or .. Chow Ma Mein?
cerritos/artesia area has several chinese/krn places. hsiang yuen, vip, little santong, new peking, king dragon, etc. i don't know which, if any, would live up to ur taste, but they all have jjampong as jjampong and jja jjang myun are the 2quintessential chinese/krn dishes. (some places do half/half). i only do jja jjang as i had a traumatic exp w/the other when i was little. if you go to hsiang yuen, their fish dumplings are great (not sure if they have it on their menu for dine-in but i've had the frozen ones that you cook @home and they were quite tasty).
Little Bear - new "Belgian Beer Cafe" downtown arts district
like the space and of course, the beer selection...however, the few dishes i tried were not good. the gougeres, fries, grilled cheese brisket made me decide to only return for the beer in the future.
ISO Lemon Layer Cake
ooh yes!! valerie confections!! i haven't tried their lemon crunch cake but i've tried their blum's coffee on a few occasions and it's good stuffs.
BEST SUSHI in LA...
haven't been to takao. asanebo would probably be better overall, at least for the cooked dishes. as for the sushi, it's only decent, def not mind-blowing. however, that is my sentiment on kiriko as well. i think generally, you'll have to compromise the awesome sushi part if you're also searching for great cooked dishes. ;p
BEST SUSHI in LA...
i would agree w/your kiriko assessment, normally, however, i think servorg was adhering to the context of the OP's request where "veggies rolls, soup, tofu, noodles, seaweed, etc." can be ordered. while zo is most def great for sushi, the other items are not an option (save for the miso soup and uni noodles that are part of the omakase). mori has some cooked items, but i'm not sure whether u can simply order them a la carte.
