Orlando has Another Pig Roast?? Besides Ravenous Pig?

I heard it was Dexter's....

Passing through from Yountville to Fresno

Sorry it has taken so long to write back--we were out of town. I will check into Hunan; thanks for the suggestion. I'm looking forward to eating per everyone's recommendations!

Passing through from Yountville to Fresno

Thanks, Carrie, for the advice. Sounds fantastic--will report back after our trip (we'll be there the 24th of June) I'll do some more research on your board, and would love some feedback from other SF chowhounds as well so we have a big mixed bag of ideas from which to choose. We'll be like kids in a candy store:-)

Phyllo dough (fillo dough)

Phyllo lives with the frozen puff pastry sheets and shells in your grocer's freezer aisle. Athens is the brand that I've seen in both the leaves and in mini shells.

Passing through from Yountville to Fresno

Hi there. My husband and I will be passing through the San Francisco area on a Wednesday. We have all day and would like to experience some local favorites. We generally tend to meander, and we'll be meandering from the north to the south over the course of the day. We're up for anything. I've checked some of the "Best Of" threads on the San Francisco boards, but I thought I'd also specifically ask you Chowhounds out there: if you only had one day and wanted to experience San Francisco through its food, where would you go? Anything goes--we want to eat like locals, not tourists, so off the beaten path would be just fine with us. Thanks so much!

Pig Roasts are hosted the first Saturday of each month. This month, their e-newsletter said it will be on the 7th if that helps with your plans. You really can't go wrong at TRP!

Ravenous Pig / Orlando

I was just at TRP last night. For those of you who have missed it or haven't tried it yet, the tomato tart is back on with the rib eye!

And, to eatnbmerry, the pig roasts happen the first Saturday of every month. You can get on their mailing list by e-mailing to info@theravenouspig.com You'd better believe I'm on that list:-)

Ravenous Pig / Orlando

TRP has excellent snapper, cod, skate wing, raw bar (oysters), mussels, etc. Things change frequently, so I'd call that day to get the low-down on the fish available that day.

And as an aside to the "dumbing down" discussion, I think it's probably more a matter of food cost than dumbing down. If food is just going in the trash, they aren't making a profit on it. I work in the restaurant industry, and it's always a struggle to balance cutting edge food with what the public will embrace. I'm sure they want to--and do--make creative and interesting food, but if folks aren't eating it, it is poor business to keep making it.
