R.I.P. The Fairway Lobster Roll
I was @ brooklyn faiway this past sunday and two of my friends had the lobster roll. Yes, it was smaller than the last time I had it several months ago, but was by no means non-existent. it's definitely not the great deal it once was. I too will stick to the lox and bagel, or even better the $1.50 hot dog platter.
Gio deserves a dedicated post: Luigi's is Fantastic. Let Us Give Props.
Shhhh. you'll ruin it for those of us in the know ;- )
Dried Mushroom Advice Needed
hi.
I'm looking for a less expensive/interesting substitute for dried porcinis (not sure if the shrooms in polish markets are the same) . I was thinking that there must be something worth trying in a chinese market. any suggestions/advice would be appreciated. if it's chines - please spell it phonetically ;- )
~ thanks
Gluten Free beer at a bar in Brooklyn?
Apparently they now have Redbridge at The Gate.
Sidecar on 5th ave in South Slope?
FYI... the chef/co-owner used to be a chef at Blue Ribbon.
Annabelle's in Red Hook
What are the prices like? Also, is this place the former Lillies?
Brooklyn Burger Bar shuttering
I walked by last night and they were open and doing business.
Where to buy inexpensive fresh duck (for confiting) in Brooklyn?
Brooklyn chinatown on 8th ave. Try Lien Hung supermarket @ 57th street (I think).
Cafe Con Flores (Soup/Tamales) on 4th Ave (10/11th) Closed?
I just stopped by Cafe Con Flores, the flower, coffee, soup, tamale etc... place on 4th Ave (10/11th), to pick up some tamales and found it closed and emptied out. Anyone know what happened? I really liked them (the owners as well as tamales) very much. It's a loss for the neighborhood.
Beer Table, Park Slope
I live around the corner and am willing to give it a try, though frankly I can't afford to pay $8 - $10 for more than one small glass of beer. I like the idea though and I'm sure the owners will respond to the market if there is a "consensus of feet" in regard to the price.
I miss Sparky's!
Catering in Park Slope?
How about Polio? I've always had good experiences with them.
My trip to Sunset Park and some questions
I've also had strange experience at Thanh Da. On two separate occasions I ordered their grilled pork bahn mi (I don't remember what number it is) only to discover that they gave me their "house" sandwich (number one - the one with pate , whatever...) instead.
So... on my next visit I ordered the grilled pork again, and then told the girl behind the counter of my past experience. To which she replied that they wouldn't make me the sandwich I wanted because it used too much meat so they substituted the number one house sandwich. And apparently they were doing it again on that order, so after trying to make a final argument for my order we left and went down to Ba Xuyen . Live and learn.
Worst grocery store in Park Slope
I agree that C-Town is a nightmare (which is why I don't shop there), but below 9th street, if you're on foot there really aren't many alternatives... because they do have decent stuff and aren't priced like Union Market.
I am convinced that the problem is their management/workers. I have never (except maybe at Pathmark) seen so many cashiers spend so much time socializing and texting instead of working. It's really disgraceful.
I agree with everyone else that the key Food on 5th ave. is great, and they deliver.
As for Eagle... they have gone way downhill in the past couple of years. Their deli is still fine, but the meats and produce - perishables in general - are very questionable. They re-wrap/re-package regularly. Grey meat. Pre-packaged poultry that is past it's "sell by" date. Stale breads and stale beers (a crime in my opinion) are all issues I've had there recently. For the Polish stuff, try Jubilat on the next block... it's small, but great.
