Boone/W. Jefferson must eat or must do (Oct 14-19th)

I've had good experiences at Fraser's in West Jefferson. Good food choices, great ambiance with a casual pub/bistro kind of feel.

BBQ off I-77

Had another thought about Mt Airy...although it's not BBQ specific. 13 Bones is Mt Airy NC has really good ribs. Should you find yourself in that area and willing to do ribs rather than Lexington BBQ I think you would not be disappointed.

BBQ off I-77

Aunt Bea's has several locations..Hillsdale Va, Mt Airy NC, Pilot Mtn NC etc...pretty good meat and three small town diners, good breakfast although the barbeque doesn't wow me, BUT, Aunt Bea's barbeque sauce Does! I buy it by the case...hard to describe but similar to Tenn. style sauce sauce...not really NC style, but not SC mustard either. Spicy, not sweet, thick with vinegary overtones.
You know something has to be good when one of the ingredients is turnips!
I'm picking up a case next week.

Pathetic state of burgers in Winston and Greensboro

Finnigans in Winston Salem and Milners will cook burgers to order. In fact, recently at Milners they had us sign a printed form stating that we understood we were getting a med rare burger!
Didn't mind at all.

Fish Restaurant in Charleston?

Had dinner last week w/ two other couples at Fish. Calamari was an OMG experience, and we greed it was the best any of us could remember. Everyone had different entrees and all agreed the seafood was outstanding.
We also ate at Charleston Grill, and T Lucca....lunch at Husk. You have to work at having a bad meal in Charleston. Even Fleet Landing for a "Leaving Town quick lunch" was surprisingly was fresh and tasty, and calamari "fingers", while unlike anything we've every had, were a hit for tho0se who don't like tough calamari.

see wee restaurant - charleston

The See Wee is only about 10 miles at most from Mt. Pleasant. It's on Hwy 17 which is the ONLY main highway so should be no problem. I think you're remembering Brookgreen Gardens which are at Pawley's Island, about another 50 miles up Hwy 17. It is well worth the drive, and is right on the highway. No twists or turns. In between is the quaint little town of Georgetown SC, which has a nice small, two or three block town center.
