ClockworkOrange's Profile
Pennsylvania Foods
FYI, it's Postie's : ) and unfortunately, I believe all they make nowadays is their birch beer in kegs. I used to love their lime (green, NOT lemon-lime, though that was tasty), cherry smash, grape, orange, pineapple, cream, etc. There is a place in Catawissa, PA near Bloomsburg: http://www.catawissabottlingco.com/ that still makes most of those olde timey sodas in a variety of package sizes. Made with cane sugar too BTW.
"Real" frozen custard stand between Harrisburg & Lancaster (close to the Turnpike)
I've never been, but I have a few foodie friends that frequent the Harrisburg location. http://meadowsfrozencustard.com/locations/Default.aspx
Any decent pizza near Bloomsburg?
So what pizza(s) did you end up trying at Berwick Brewing? Did you try their beer? Their curd and jager pie is borderline addictive.

More Scranton and NEPA Wanderings - Report
Postie's is still around, although I think they only keg the birch beer. All their awesome flavored sodas are history. Ironically, I actually get a growler fill of the birch beer at Senape's tavern when I'm in the area.
Sonic Drive In Comes to Wallingford ,Ct Food Review
Maybe it's just me, but I think their onion rings taste like french toast.

Depending on my mood, either Lyle's Golden Syrup or real maple syrup. And of course butter is a given.
Super Foodtown in Lansdale
Foodtown is one of the few places (maybe the only place in PA) where you can find Tree Tavern frozen pizza. Great stuff, don't let the cheap looking package fool ya.
Good Burgers in the Burbs
Capone's on the Germantown Pike in E. Norriton makes a great char grilled burger cooked any way you like it with a fantastic, world class beer selection as well.
Farmer's Cheese - what is it? And what to do with it?
We mainly use farmers cheese for filling blintzes, but another one of my favorites is to crumble it and toss it in with some bow tie pasta along with some onions sauteed in butter, salt and pepper for a quick lenten meal.
Haagen Dazs Five: high overrun?
I saw the FIVE line-up at the local Giant yesterday. They come in the new H-D 14 ounce "pint" containers. I'll pass...
Russian River Beer on the East Coast(NJ,PA,DC,MD)?
Pliny the Elder is keg only in PA for now, no bottles. And Liquid Solutions does ship to PA, but they only have Damnation in stock at the moment.
Where can I find HopSlam?
Quotations Pub in Media claims to have Hopslam on tap for the entire month of Feb.

Mad Elf
At Tröegs 10th anniv. party last year, they were serving locally made cherry vanilla ice cream with belgian chocolate chunks and topped with a Mad Elf sauce.
delicious oatmeal stout . . .
I will second the Ipswich Oatmeal Stout recommendation. Some other examples you should be able to get in MA:
- St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout from Canada
- The Peoples Pint Our oatmeal Stout
- Belfast Bay McGovern's Oatmeal Stout
My Beer Haul- An unabashed, unfrugal, shameless middle finger salute to the current global economy
It's going for $10 a 4-pack at a few places in NJ. Here in northeast PA, a store near me has it for $3.75 / single, $14.95 a 4-pack (tax incl.). I've seen it going for $14ish at a few places in Ohio as well.
Lewisburg/nearby -- Looking for various things
I'll also recommend Selin's Grove Brewing for excellent beer and tasty food. Also, no need to go to State College for a Wegman's. They have a store in Williamsport.

Currently operating chains that used to be, but are no longer in your state?
They are still around in PA. I pass by an Arthur Treacher's in Danville on my way to Selin's Grove Brewing Co.
Currently operating chains that used to be, but are no longer in your state?
Here in PA, I was surprised to see that there are no longer any White Castle stores in the entire state (except for the frozen burgers you can but at the grocery store). Additionally, Hardees are all but gone from here as well. Can anyone from PA think of a few others? What chains have you noticed that have pulled out of your state? Also, what chains have opened locations in your state recently? In PA, Steak-N-Shake and Sonic are relatively new.
