morning workout fuel suggestions?
i've found it easier for me to carb-load the night before a nice long distance run. a hearty dinner of pasta and breads, and then in the morning a cup of juice and maybe a banana or two, and i'm good to go!
Hosting a dinner party with humorless guests..
whats even worse is having a themed party, and that one couple who decide to show up 'un-themed'... deeming themselves 'too old' to be acting 'so childish' ... those were the exact words i've had a couple say to me! it was a 'who-dunit 50's themed dinner party'. They showed up in casual jeans and tee shirts, while the rest of us were dressed for fun and murder, in dresses and suits! haha! ;) needless to say, they will be added to 'no invite' list this halloween!
when the bread doesn't line up...
yes! this is a big pet peeve of mine. i also eat things in twos, because i think its 'just the right amount of flavor' haha! i have a lot of eating quirks. but bread not lining up is a big issue!
Your fave non-American breakfast food/meal?
yes! very much love pho in the morning. and on Anthony Bourdains suggestion, I've had it after a long night of drinking, and its a great cure for hang overs! ha ha!
Romantic beach vacation spots for a foodie couple
search online for B&B's. (bed and breakfasts) ... theres a whole directory out there. www.bbonline.com ... you search by area. its cute, and i've stayed at a couple out there that are really nice.
and by out there, i meant, on the ocean near savannah. i didn't put that in to begin with. haha
Sometimes, stale foodstuffs/beverages = good snackin'
swedish fish
the russet potato chips, left open over night.
those are the two popping into my head right now.
sometimes i make tuna sammies on stale bread, if there isn't a good crusty french bread around.
Mongolian BBQ, Japanese BBQ, Korean BBQ?
thats exactly how i feel about the mongolian bbq places i've been to here in the state. its mediocre, and more about the show then anything. kind of like the run of the mill hibachi places i've seen popping up like dandelions in my area.
best soft drink ever
target "archer farms" brand also has a blood orange soda thats really really good!
best soft drink ever
maybe not the "best" but a favorite of mine so far has been the Sarsaparilla i picked up randomly on sale at Target. i haven't been able to find a decent one, and that ones pretty good!
Kimchi on a hot dog
couldn't get my paws on any kim-chi so i did this... omg. so good. you are a genius. haha
Deep Fried Fish Skins & Wasabi Doritos...
you can order them from www.jlist.com (gotta be over 18 to get to Jlist though, if you aren't, you gotta use Jbox.com!)
What menu items need to be retired?
dear my, YES. i hate hearing the word 'martini' in reference to a desert or something, just because they serve it in a martini glass!
Bentou/Bento
i've been searching this on the web a bit, and am really interested in it.
does anyone have any suggestions, or sites, or personal recipes that they'd like to share?

this was the most informational thread, but i was hoping maybe by reviving it, i could get some new input?
How have/did your eating preferences change when pregnant?
OH, and the heartburn. omg. if i even looked at orange juice, or i got the worst heartburn. she had a full head of hair when she was born though.
How have/did your eating preferences change when pregnant?
i hated the smell/taste of anything red meat related. it was awful. i craved spicy food and tabasco/sirancha like a crazy person. the only weird things i would crave, were this weird turkey sandwich with mustard, on a blueberry bagel...and garlic pickle juice, not the pickles themselves. it was awful. nobody wanted to be around me the last leg of my pregnancy. if i didn't smell like garlic, i smelled like mustard. haha Cheers to you, and i hope you and the baby stay healthy and safe :)
BBQ odor for Vegetarians
when i started being veg in high school, and just recently stopped because of personal health problems myself (i had to go see a nutritionist, and things) ... i realized that the scents were what drew me in...
but an easy way to get past that, is that i started doing a lot of home cooking, with fresh veggies and garlic, and other scents... and started to associate the smells with various cravings, so it wasn't as bad when i was out somewhere where i couldn't eat, or if i passed a bbq!
CASE WESTERN UNIVERSITY BREAKFAST
yeah its pretty nice now. i''ve only been once, but they do jazz and blues nights sometimes. which is nice.
Rootbeer!!!....
a&w, with a big frosty mug! can't go wrong with a bacon cheeseburger alongside too!
"gourmet" foods you liked as a kid
ah yes! it was rare, but eel was something my grandmother made and never told me it was eel until i was a lot older! haha
"gourmet" foods you liked as a kid
i saw you said you were 'very italian' below (as am i!), and your including fried smelts definitely reminds me of childhood.
as well as sardines! i ate those on a lot of things (and still do to this day)
*edit: anchovies, as well*
What's your favorite water?
oh, i couldn't even imagine drinking it warm. hahaha. yikes!
Scene stealers: Preferring the condiment to the main ingredient?
this is probably going to sound really mean, but a friend of mine makes breaded calamari with a peppercorn dipping sauce... she doesn't flavor the calamari well at all, and it turns out bland most of the time (which is too bad, because i love calamari) ... but her peppercorn dipping sauce? oh my gosh. i would eat it on crackers if i could. she said she stole the idea from an Olive Garden, and tweaked it. its so good.
Strange Pairings that Taste Uncommonly Good
fresh turkey, honey brown mustard on top of a blueberry (untoasted) bagel, with lettuce and pickles. hahaha. soooo gross sounding, but it really is a favorite of mine. when i was pregnant, i ate at least one a day i think.
What's your favorite water?
also, vitamin water is nice too. i didn't know what it was for a long time, but its an enhanced water, and it really helped my complexion. haha
What's your favorite water?
i cannot for the life of me, remember what the name of it is, but i'm pretty sure i picked up at a store similiar to Williams-Sonoma, that had a cooler in the back... it was Mint-infused water. it is perfect in the afternoon when you want a snack, but don't want to eat before a meal coming up. its like taking the place of chomping on a stick of gum (which i can't do) and makes your whole mouth happy. hahaha i also think i picked some up at a Sheetz Gas Station once. i wanted to say it was Metro Mint... and a quick google search confirmed! haha
How safe is sushi from a decent sushi restaurant?
i think a good way to decide on if a place is safe, is using the same cautions you would use if you were cooking/planning on eating fish in your own kitchen. and if the place doesn't look impeccably clean, thats could be a really decent hint too. i mean, if your sushi chef is looking a mess and disheveled, ... i'd steer clear. theres a chance he COULD be like that all the time, but it could also be an off-day for him, ... which might result in something going wrong.
Hot Dougs
yeah, i had the lamb with spicy harissa (spelling on that might be off) and this amazing cheese, that i can't remember off the top of my head.
it was absolutely to die for, but after stuffing myself on a regular dog, and some duck fat fries, i didn't quite finish it! only two or three more bites, but i just couldn't do it. haha
Hot Dougs
thanks for the help! and i did get the duck fat fries! loved them! they weren't toooo greasy, but the salt was just perfect.
Hot Dougs
went this morning/afternoon and the wait wasn't so bad! it seems that the wait isn't so much to get a table, but to get the order one! the tables were clearing pretty quickly, but people were taking forever to order. (because of all the awesome choices)
the duck fat fries were pretty salty, but i was expecting more grease, and it wasn't so bad!
thanks for the help, too! i loved it!! i ended up getting the lamb , and the 'dog' chicago style. it was awesome!
